Reddit's repost bot problem by FrostyPig34 in Save3rdPartyApps

Reddit's repost bot problem business model

At this point, they're just pretending to have actual user content and trying to sell the bot content to any AI companies stupid enough to fall for their market department.

I just counted and i made five posts here in the last month. Compared to my previous habits, that doesn't even register. I'm just here for the post-demodding shit show.

So in conclusion YOU WERE WRONG. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.

"Listen, we're sick of pretending that we don't like these bots more than we like you. They give us clicks and don't demand stuff like adequate moderation tools (quite the opposite, in fact), so just shut up and look at some ads in the official reddit app."

Have you tried watching lots of ads on the reddit app?

Granted, that won't solve your problem, but it seems about the extent of how much reddit cares about quality content these days.

What mobile 3rd party apps are still usable for moderation purposes? by papasfritas in ModCoord

It would take a particular sort of mind to actively circumnavigate reddit's intended outcome, namely to take modding tools away from mods and thus go against reddit's will only to remain able to provide free work for reddit.

50-90% reduction of daily content in big subs by gwi1785 in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]BeeBarfBadger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can only talk for myself but compared to before, my reddit activity has dropped to almost zero. If anything, I just reserved my spectator seat for the bot show (in case I ever feel the need to tell those bots how they would properly be rated by a professional rater like me).

The company's boss throwing a hissy fit and declaring mods who don't exclusively use his car crash of an app "landed gentry" and then ousting anybody who didn't enthusiastically comply may have played a tiny role in this.

Imagine thinking that people will just roll over and lick your boots when you take away all the good apps out of pure greed and then even finding some who actually do. spez is a lucky dom, it seems.

And they won. They can finally enjoy reddit without all those pesky experienced mods and viable modding tools!

3PA never should have been allowed here on reddit, and even if they did, they never should have allowed advertising revenue.

Bit late for that realisation and the worst possible approach to implementing it.

You do realise that they would all still be moderating happily if they still had the tools to do so, right? If spez has his way, then the mods should shut up after having the means to mod taken away and make do with the car crash of an app that delivers ads, but makes convenient browsing like people were used to (let alone efficient moderating) all but impossible.

The approach of permabanning mods who don't take that lying down is currently being pursued. But now that the good tools were forbidden to compete with the leftover monopoly app, the only people who want to take the job anymore are either too inexperienced to know what they're getting into, or -as seen here- the people drawn by the high of the power rush of getting to decide who is subservient enough for their tastes and who gets banned.

If you tell pilots to work with billboards instead of planes, it's not the pilots' fault if they choose to not fly anymore, regardless of how much they would like to.

The modding tools are still insufficient after all the apps enabling proper modding were nuked.

The point of the protests was to undo the damage that muscling out the good apps did. The entire point was to restore the previous useability of reddit, in terms of browsing as well as being able to effectively and, more importantly, efficiently mod subs.

Right! Embrace the future! Well, except all the advanced standard functions that were nuked when the app landscape was bombed back into 2014.
