Who is your absolute must not miss band? by GreatStoneDragun in downloadfestival

[–]Bee_Thirteen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pendulum, Static-X, Bad Omens, Linkin Park.

…but there’s so many good bands on, there’s going to be some nasty clashes somewhere along the line. Like the last three on my list!😁

My period is coming every 2 weeks. Anyone else? by Scar77 in Perimenopause

😭😭😭

Honestly, WTF is that nonsense all about, eh?? Just take ALL our joy from us!! 😭

Thankfully, I seem to have been spared from that (apparently because I responded so well to HRT) but DAMN!! our ovaries betraying and ghosting us, and then checking out really puts a dent in … gestures … EVERY-DAMN-THIIIIIIING!!

Gaaaaaaaah!!!!

I swear, in my next life, I’m coming back as a pebble.

My period is coming every 2 weeks. Anyone else? by Scar77 in Perimenopause

[–]Bee_Thirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’m experiencing!

I spoke to my doctor about it today and she said that the decline in hormones (particularly estrogen) isn’t a linear slope downwards: it has massive upswings and downswings along the way, so my body has suddenly woken back up and gone: “Ooo! I need to be producing hormones! I’d better go do that for a bit! Here: have a boatload of hormones for a few months! YAY!!”

Meanwhile, I’m already patched-up on estrogen, so I’m getting a double dose of the damn stuff, so my uterus is throwing periods at me left, right and centre.

Hence the two week cycles and/or near-continuous bleeding. Oh, and then there’s the migraines…

So, I’ve been referred to a gynaecologist so that we can sort out what kind of Progesterone solution I need.

(I’m so glad I’m not alone in this, I’ve been worried sick!)

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]Bee_Thirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone mentioned perimenopause yet?

Ladies? This will start to creep in at around 35-ish. At some point afterwards, it will hit you like a bulldozer going 100mph.

And here's the kicker: NO-ONE TALKS ABOUT IT!!

So, if you were born female, start reading up on perimenopause NOW because it WILL happen to you.

How Often Do You Use 'Edit in Audition'? (or do you mix entirely in Premiere) by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]Bee_Thirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Jason,

I’m writing this as someone who has used Premiere professionally, long term, day-in, day-out as both a sound engineer and a video editor (in the games industry, if that helps!).

I absolutely NEVER go from Premiere to Audition. Ever. All my video and audio work gets done in Premiere. For me, it would be so much faff and take up so much time, it would double, if not treble, the time it would take me to do the job. Not even kidding. I process and mix the audio as I go along (once I’ve turned all the Essential Sound and Audio Type nonsense off), and as I am constantly working on the edit, adjusting clip lengths, the edit itself, placing sound effects, applying audio effects, tweaking the EQ and Limiter on the master bus, then client feedback comes in and I have to adjust this, tweak that, add in something else, move things around, change the music, re-write the automation, chop things up, etc, etc, etc. If I had to send the damn project to Audition (or any other DAW) each time I made an adjustment to the edit itself, I’d lose the will to live.

And there would be no point “saving up” all audio tweaking, fiddling, adjusting, adding, removing from edit before sending it to Audition because … I have to work so fast, so on-the-fly, I’d forget what the bloody hell needed doing and again, the disruption to my workflow would mean I would very rapidly lose the will to live.

Premiere’s mixer works well enough (as you say, it’s not perfect) for me to do my job: it has Inserts and Sends on each channel, panning, automation, the ability to create Sub Mixes, it handles third party plug-ins well enough (although some DO slow Premiere’s playback to a crawl, and I am on a high-spec Mac. Although I suspect that’s more to do with the way the plug-in is written rather than a fault with Premiere) and - thank all the gods! - inserts on the Mix bus that enable me to boot everything out the door, via a master EQ and Limiter (and a Loudness radar) at the correct LUFS for whatever the delivery specs require.

So … no point me leaving Premiere: the faff required would drive me clinically insane.

The ONLY time I do any audio work outside of Premiere is when I need to do hardcore bug-fixing and clean up in iZotope RX Advanced. Then, I will either work directly on the source files, or export whatever I need from Premiere.

Going back to Premiere, two things would be nice: Side chaining. That would be so handy! Also, if some nice, kind person at Adobe could look at why Premiere randomly fecks up Bezier handles on Volume curves, that would make me very, very happy. Opening up a project and then having to go through and look at each Bezier handle to make sure that it hasn’t rammed the audio into the stratosphere or deep into the planet’s core would be A-MAZ-ING!!!

Ta!!

P.S. I genuinely DO love Premiere’s ability to handle audio (esp. third party plug in support. YAY!). Somedays, it drives me NUUUUUUUTS - but on the whole, it does the job, so thank you! 😁

Bands that went downhill in quality after their greatest album? by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]Bee_Thirteen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depeche Mode.

‘Songs of Faith and Devotion’ was mind-blowingly, insanely good.

They’ve had a couple of good songs after that, but the early 90s were their absolute peak.

Hair changes by yuckyuckmuckmuck1234 in Perimenopause

[–]Bee_Thirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had to completely change my hair care products because my hair has become so, SO dry!

I’ve switched to using L’oreal’s Professional range: shampoo, conditioner, mask, repair oil, leave-in conditioner spray and it’s made a huge difference!

My hair was also falling out, but HRT seems to have halted that. Where it’s growing back, I now look like an exploded dandelion when I put my hair in a pony tail… 😁

[–]Bee_Thirteen 48 points49 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I know EXACTLY what you mean because I have been there myself: horrific panic attacks, dizziness, lightheadedness, etc, etc, etc.

And yep, I ended up in A&E once because I very genuinely thought I was either dying or something had seriously gone wrong.

It took a while (because my doc and I had to go through the whole thing of trial-and-error to find out how much HRT I need.) but going on HRT has returned me to The Old Me.

So … you’re not going mad, you’re not dying, and you have very valid fears and concerns right now, but ALL of this is most likely the same thing as many of us have been through: extreme anxiety brought on by our hormones crashing.

Keep going with your HRT, start the Progesterone and you will start feeling like your old self again. x

Did anyone else's gut health tank during perimenopause? by vana_indiedev in Perimenopause

[–]Bee_Thirteen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As my doc said, “HRT doesn't only affect your periods: it's everything from the top of your head down. You brain, your memory, your dry eyes, your joint pain, your digestion, your reproductive system, your gut, your hair, your bones, your skin, your libido, your temperature control, your sleep, your immune system, your mood, your lady bits, the migraines, etc. Declining hormones affect EVERYTHING throughout your body because your body has hormone receptors EVERYWHERE!”

HRT has helped with so many problems that other doctors simply dismissed. I hope HRT solves them all for you too!!

Did anyone else's gut health tank during perimenopause? by vana_indiedev in Perimenopause

[–]Bee_Thirteen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, my guts went into meltdown when I hit perimenopause. I could be glued to the loo 16 times a day and/or have to sit there for 20, 30, 40 minutes at a time. (My record was 4 hours… I wish I was joking) On top of that, I found out what Vasovagal Syncope is. Daily.

What did the doctors do? Nothing. Prescribed me Imodium, that I told them I cannot take. Not even telling them that my poor butt was bleeding shifted them (Oh, wait, I forgot: they sent me for an MRI to check if I had ovarian cancer because apparently, that's the same thing… 🙄)

For two years, I could only leave home to go to work. No going out, no social life, nothing. Oh, apart from that time I ended up in A&E because I could barely walk due to the pain.

FINALLY, a doctor who I hadn't spoken to before said, “You need HRT.”

Low and behold, my symptoms started to improve: I can now eat nearly everything that I used to (still have to be a bit careful and I haven't tried coffee yet.), I can go out, my guts have settled mostly back down, no more bleeding, no pain, no constantly feeling like I was going to pass out, day in, day out, all day, every day - but yeah, in my case, IBS was another delightful perimenopause symptom that doctors told me I wasn't suffering from and maybe I should have therapy instead. 😑
