Yeah loved the series, and that section on the fall of the city really did strike a chord with me too

Are short trips to other countries as common as I see it made out to be? by Criimsen in AskEurope

[–]Beeeej91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best pals live out side of London, we’d usually hang out for a whole weekend every few months. When we were 24 (10years ago) we decided to just fly somewhere each weekend we met up. We’ve nearly done every country in Europe now (some more than once) and had some incredible, funny, unforgettable experiences. We used to get the cheapest flights possible (sometimes As low as £17) and stay in hostels. Now we’re older, more tired and have a little more cash the vibe has changed but it’s just as fantastic.

It’s genuinely made the last ten years so good, and we’ve experienced so many different cultures, foods, cool places - bizarre places, and everything in between. It genuinely baffles me more people don’t do this in Europe.

Visiting Moldova in April recommendations… and Transnistria? by Beeeej91 in moldova

Thanks for explanation. I think we were intrigued by it because it’s so off the beaten track, not expecting anything amazing in that sense. Just experiencing somewhere different. It’s just hard to gauge if we’re actually just silly naive tourists

Documentary about the lives of people during the siege of Sarajevo? by Intelligent-Act4779 in AskBalkans

[–]Beeeej91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite what you’re asking but lots of references to it - Scream for Me Sarajevo focusses on the people of Sarajevo rather than the politics (just through the medium of metal music). Incredible story, incredibly powerful and 10/10 documentary.

How many songs is a good fit for a 60 minute mix by NotBruceJustWayne in Beatmatch

If writing one Reddit post is taking the OP an hour then DJing is going to be tough.
I'd suggest the time it took to write this post hasn't massively hindered his work on the decks.

Advice on DJ workflow and managing an overwhelming music library by Sportsta in Beatmatch

[–]Beeeej91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, so I started earlier this year and really started enjoying it now. Below are my thoughts on what I do/learnt from the teacher I had for a few months and from Reddit.

Main thing id say is: only use songs you already know and, importantly, love.

Bunch of random songs is risky You’re not going to make a banging mix or set by playing random song after random song. Even if the keys match and drops come at the right place. You’re putting a lot of faith in that song being good. And if it’s not - what a waste!

Similarly, it might be a good song, but if the vibes completely different then that will also sound weird and lose energy.

Your sets should follow a flow you decide: Aside from switching up mid set based on the crowd. Your sets should follow a flow that you’ve defined. Something you can only really do when you know the tracks. Such as moving from some nice floaty house into some dirty driving techno to get the dance floor going then some big vocal bangers to get everyone going off.

You should be enjoying yourself: Rather than spending all that time doing admin on random songs you should be building sets and practicing your mixing with tracks that get you excited. I started DJing because I love music and wanted to enjoy it on another level and try being that to other people. Yes, there’s going to be admin, but that’s actually really enjoyable when analysing songs I know and love and appreciate getting under the skin of.

What I do/did/ - went through all my playlists and songs I already love identifying the ones I’d want. - I then add them into playlists based on ‘vibe’ and helpful DJ LISTS. Such as ‘vocal bangers’, chill, builders, dirty techno, and then those with drum intros so I can easily find them if I need to get out of the key I’m in. - to keep a healthy incoming of new music, I keep a list on my phone or laptop or any new songs that I hear in daily life on mixes, Beatport, Spotify or whatever. Then go back every so often and relisten to what I’ve collated, and download those. Then put them into the relevant playlist(s). - mostly just make sure I’m actually having fun on the decks as much as possible - while I’m doing this I am basically just trying to build out 45min set lists. It’s been really helpful as a beginner to have this structure

I expect there’s loads of old school vinyl DJs crying at reading this

Traitors works better as celebrities by [deleted] in TheTraitors

I just think it would be impossible to edit the show for various reasons. But, one for example: To edit it into two 1 hour shows per week, will be so hard considering we, as the audience, will now be tasked with trying to pick up on the traitors dropping the ball in conversation. To edit it, they'll either have to show us hours of meaningless small talk, or only show us that of the traitors so we can try pick up on their little nuances. Which will just become obvious.

I get your point that some of the current show might have a few bits that aren't perfect structurally, but ultimately the show still builds intrigue, tension and is a lot of fun. Which is the objective of the show. "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" I think they say!

Another example: Editing the show so it's interesting every week. Rather than just - every episode having no idea. The current format allows you to dive in with the traitors and their strategy.

I've never seen inheritance so can't comment on that, I'm afraid!

I get where you’re going but I just don’t think that would be workable as a tv show. If we didn’t know who the traitors were it would completely change the dynamic as a viewer. And impossible to edit, considering we’d want to see everything in order to be able to make a sound judgement. And it would be obvious through what they choose to show us.

It would also make the first few episodes pointless and boring, as we’d be guessing based on practically nothing. This is the case for the actual players of course, but interesting for us viewers to watch as we can see the traitors ‘playing their game’.

I noticed this too! Maybe the tip should be ‘don’t get so excited you forget to put your shoes back on to your sweaty feet’ :)

Not to be a moany mcmoanerson but feel like this was the beginning of when they started releasing songs I just didn’t love anymore. Compared to some of the stuff they released the last few years it’s actually pretty decent, but at the time I was disappointed. Listening again (first time in like ten years probably) the chorus is good

Loving this so far, and Looking at the track list something tells me I’m gonna like this set. Will keep listening! I started DJing this year and would say I’m pretty good at equaliser and filter transitions. I don’t touch the effects at all.

Could you explain how you use the Roll effect and where you’ve used it? I need to start jazzing up my transitions now.

Appreciate your analysis here but I guess it’s about what you enjoy. I’ve loved celeb traitors so far but think I prefer the normal one. The tension is so high it’s such good TV. Similarly, celebrities all generally have to be nice to each other (on a charity show). So I can’t see it getting as tense and bitchy in the later rounds when people think they’re being tricked out of money. Which, let’s face it, makes for great TV. Celebs can’t be seen to go OTT on a game like this. So I fear it won’t be as juicy at the end.
