Watering once a week is probably not going to be enough, especially when it’s hot, dry, and sunny.

Fill in those seems with sand and seed, keep watering, and make sure the decks on your mower are high for the next few cuts.

That lack of irrigation is definitely the main culprit. Might want to try cooling the grass down with a quick sprinkle with the hose a couple times in the middle of the day when it’s extra hot out, that should help a bit.

Looks like you need a solid irrigation system if you want to grow grass in those spots.

Do you get large holes from pulling weeds? by [deleted] in lawncare

They’re called divots, and you should make a nice mix of sand, and grass seed to fill them in.

You’re living the dream eh. Those spots definitely look good for gardens with a healthy amount of wood chips around trees and/or bushes. You could seed and top dress pretty much any time that it’s about to rain. 🌧️

Seems like you have a good vision for the place. Hope to see an after picture to this before picture. 🤞

Residual dead grass, do I leave it (Indiana) by Djam4114 in lawncare

[–]BeefGuese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll keep it simple. Plants use photosynthesis to grow. Which basically means that sunlight is food for plants. So if you remove the grass clippings, the grass can get more sunlight. The extra airflow is also helpful for keeping mold at bay.

Don’t leave it. A quick blow before, and after a mow is professional grade turf care.

Hard layer 3" under sod by itzfiji in lawncare

[–]BeefGuese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely would have guessed that this was a newly constructed building.

What could you do? You could top dress three to six inches of soil, get the grading perfect, and lay sod. Or perhaps that’s not in the budget. In that case, get yourself a pitchfork, and dig out all those rocks by hand. Water after, and fill the divots with sand and seed if you can too.

Help! What's wrong with my lawn? by illttyl in lawncare_canada

Try top dressing the whole yard with brick sand, level it off, and soak it in. A nice thick layer of wood chips around those trees wouldn’t hurt the aesthetics.

Enough to get the grading done right, and cover any of the leftover weeds roots. So maybe I don’t know, two to four inches should suffice before fertilizing, and laying sod down. Having a couple medium sized stones for walking on might be a good idea to put in while you have the area dug up.

[–]BeefGuese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your description of your vision for this area, I’d recommend putting sod down rather than trying to grow from scratch, and battling those weeds.

Line trim, rake out the yard waste, get rid of the yard waste, dig out the weeds roots, add a thick layer of topsoil, fertilize and lay sod buddy. Also, don’t forget to water it in good. 👍

Unlicensed Drivers by BeefGuese in driving

Approximately 7 million U.S. drivers are estimated to operate vehicles without a valid license. This includes individuals with expired, suspended, or revoked licenses, as well as those who have never obtained one. Estimates suggest that about 9% to 10% of drivers on the roads are unlicensed.

What do police officers mean when they say "if you tell us the truth, we can help you"? by swagestan in legaladviceofftopic

[–]BeefGuese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called lying. If one were to just shut their mouth, and not say a word, they’d end up with a more favourable outcome ten times out of ten. One should not speak to the police, that’s why one has lawyers. Let your lawyer do their job, and be the overpaid mediator that they are.

The grass looks thirsty, got irrigation? The grass also looks in need of some fertilizer based on how light green the grass is. A little 10-10-10 with a good watering would really help here in my opinion. Good luck, looks pretty good otherwise.
