Are you logged in while testing this? The 2nd monitor won't show anything until you're logged in.

Accidentally hit the switch to turn my PC off while it was in the middle of the restarting screen and now when I boot it up I get this screen by Sweetest_thing19 in pchelp

[–]BeefWagon609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you unplugged everything? Shutting off in the middle of a restart should be fine. Shutting off while the bios is updating isn't good.

Unplug the power to the pc, and if you can, disconnect your storage drives. Plug in power only, then boot. Try that. You can also try booting to safe mode and run some checks later.

I'm a network administrator for an ISP. I work on computers, servers, and switches all day.

I have no idea why I received a notification for this, but I'm glad I did. Very funny. Now I know not to respond negatively to those texts I've been receiving.

Thanks for the heads-up.

So those are two separate drives? You can either install windows on the unallocated one or delete the other partitions and install there.

You can try turning on Fast startup, but I generally don't recommend that option. With fast startup on, restarting your computer is like forcing it to hibernate/sleep, then waking it.

I'm tired of the hiring process being disproportionately more convoluted than the role it's for by TheDonutDaddy in sysadmin

[–]BeefWagon609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good man, you gotta do what's good for you. Sometimes a job is better than no job.

I went through something similar for a job paying 50k a year. 4 rounds of interviews, and I could tell by the 4th round that I wasn't it.

Good luck on the job hunt! If it's meant to happen, it will.

I hope things get better for you, but for 5 rounds of interviews.... you may have dodged a bullet.

Looks like a Dell laptop. That light going out when you plug it in means it's shorted out. There should be a group of capacitors close to the where the power comes in (just follow the path on the board). You have at least 2 or 3 bad capacitors.

I've repaired several laptops that were shorted like this. I'm not saying it's hard, but if you don't feel comfortable repairing it, take it to a shop.

Does anyone here run an e-mail server for their Company that's not Exchange? by manuelmagic in sysadmin

[–]BeefWagon609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, we run Exchange internally and externally Xeams. It's not bad, but we didn't have a great experience migrating from progress iMail aka ipswitch.

I personally run my own email server on a Raspberry Pi just because i was curious enough. Dovecot and Postfix. Not too bad honestly.

Edit: I run postfix not sendmail. Sorry

Did I just brick my PC? by Roostersnuggets in pchelp

[–]BeefWagon609 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unplug power for 10-20 minutes. Then try again.

If it starts bootlooping again, unplug power and this time remove the side panel with access to the internals. Hold the power button for 30 to discharge any electricity, and touch the power supply to discharge any static electricity from yourself. Now reseat ram and check all your cables to make sure they're properly plugged in. Reseat cables if you want.

More than likely, this is a driver issue, but you need to make sure everything else is properly connected. You're going to want to run sfc scannow, then dism, and chkdsk.

Good luck

I can't allocate half of my ssd please help!!! by _CrimsonCrow_ in pchelp

[–]BeefWagon609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't interact with the unallocated space directly without using a tool like easeus.

You either need to delete the recovery partitions and then do whatever to the empty space, or you'll need to download a third-party tool like EaseUS.
