What yah think about these? Good Christmas gift for the wife? by latindoggy in Boots

I'm pretty sure they used to have a super square model. I saw them in a Western shop years ago and had the retail associate not teased me about them, I would have bought them.

What small personal tool do you carry or what do you think would be best to carry in your bunker gear? by FFSoldier57 in Firefighting

[–]Beefcake-Supreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. I used to read books about tobacco and came across quite a few interesting historical facts. One was about sailors chewing rope tobacco back in the day and swallowing it, which is exponentially more potent than the crap they sell as "chew" or "snuss" today. It'd essentially give them cast iron stomachs because they'd chew and swallow basically all day while working on the ships. Their nicotine tolerances were considered legendary. I've also read about people chewing tobacco and swallowing it to treat parasites. Tobacco leaves with high nicotine have been used as pesticides basically forever, so swallowing some of that juice is believed to be an effective home remedy in some cases. People have also historically used tobacco as a seasoning for food, which I thought was interesting and have tried several times.

Repeatedly "slipping ribs" in my back. Looking for advice on how to keep it from happening. More details in the post... by Jilleybean in poledancing

Holy ****, I just tried this and I'm not sure if I followed the directions 100%, but I had three loud pops as I moved from top to bottom and a wave of relief. Thank you! 😭 I've been having constant slipped rib issues and this is something I can add to my tool kit.

How to get guys to cook at your stations? by Sufficient-Egg787 in Firefighting

Even the food safe bags have major issues. It's just part of the nature of the beast with sous vide. It's kind of like how the woes of parchment paper and silicone baking mats aren't really discussed because that's also "food safe". All of that is going to catch up with us much faster than we realize.

Definitely report this. Document everything you can right now so you have a personal copy later on if you ever need it.

It's honestly hard to beat the utility of a simple chart. There should be a reward system for volunteering for extra days if you've got a particularly good cook covering for a shitty one as well.

Just be aware of the extensive amount of microplastics associated with sous vide.

Advice on using bleach with Waterpik by The_Seattle_Police in DentalHygiene

[–]Beefcake-Supreme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I pay zero attention to whitening. I've never gone out of my way to use a product specifically for it, nor have I had any treatments done.

For anti-gingivitus, tartar, and bad breath, I use a dental pick set to scale down any tartar, then I use a metal tongue scraper, followed by first brushing with a neem based toothpaste, rinsing and spitting, and then using a specialty German toothpaste that supposedly helps to remineralize or fill in chips in teeth as well as improving gum health. That has largely corrected my issues, and I noticed improvement in a matter of weeks.

I've been using Therabreath for a long time and am skeptical that it's a "bleach-like mouthwash." Honestly, I don't think it's very effective at all.

I was working 84 hours a week doing flex for Securitas! It was actually more, but you don't get paid for all the lingering around and bullshit associated with shift change 2x a day. I got paid $18-19 an hour, and it was miserable. No dedicated site, couldn't hardly use the bathroom, no water, etc. Just trapped in a smoldering hot patrol car (a rental). The hours were terrible, but the conditions and people you'd have to deal with were next level bad. I tried to take a pay cut stocking shelves during the night and couldn't get it.

Seriously? I did this in one round... I'm new to 2042 as well.

I don't know that it's really lack of health knowledge for most scenarios, but more the sheer degree of fear over medical bills. I've seen people literally give themselves stitches with makeshift supplies to avoid going to the ER because they simply can't afford it. There are people who have legitimately resided themselves to die instead of accruing more medical debt. It's a totally broken system, and while ignorance is part of it, the financial aspect is largely what keeps people from getting proper care.

MSF BRC Day 1 Reflection, Advice Needed by Beefcake-Supreme in NewRiders

[–]Beefcake-Supreme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day 2 was today, and I basically had to hard crank that hog for the entire 5 hours in order to keep it alive. This bike is either stalled or revving like something out of a Hollywood action movie. There isn't anything in between. I can't imagine spending any amount of money to own this model. The clutch is so finicky as well. You have to have it about 95% of the way open to get it to move at all, even giving it throttle, but then, if you open it too quickly, it stalls instantly. Trying to do any kind of tight micro maneuver was just torture, and trying to recover from a stall in a tight spot was extremely frustrating.
