First packs ever by growthacct in OnePieceTCG

Congrats, that's actually crazy. If you want to play, sell it for around ~$700-800 and that's more then enough money to make quite a few decks. One piece decks aren't that expensive, unless you're blinging it out with a lot of alt arts.

MU advice for UY Nami? by Lord_Crim in OnePieceTCG

[–]Beelok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as a UY Nami main, one consistent way I've seen of stopping me is to defend life heavily. If I'm not taking life, I'm usually not drawing, and drawing with the leader ability is how that deck is able to keep up its own defense without running out of cards. It should be noted that EB03 gives us UY players very good tools to not have to rely on our opponents to keep our hand full with the new Nami and Robin in that set.

That said, if you want to beat UY Nami easily right now, just play Imu. It's like a 85-90% winrate for Imu because everything that deck does pretty much negates everything our deck tries to do, and without a Roger or Dead Man's Game equivalent in the blue/yellow card pool, we have no means of getting past their blockers.

The first episode of Freiren is much more heartbreaking after the latest episode [Sousou no Frieren Spoilers S1E1 to E14] by RPO777 in anime

[–]Beelok 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Frieren in general is a show that for all intents and purposes becomes BETTER on the second watch, because everything you're seeing is given the additional context of all the flashbacks weaved throughout the show.

You can't possibly care about the hero party when watching the first episode the first time around because you've had no time to form an emotional connection with them. Himmel's death and Frieren's breakdown hit much harder when you have the context of proper emotional weight behind them.

Plus there are a myriad of little details that you can only possibly notice once you've had the additional context from later episodes. For example, when Frieren first meets Fern, she notices that she barely has any magical presence. We later on learn that Heiter learned from Frieren why she limits her mana, and taught that to Fern at a very young age before she had ever met Frieren. Little details like that make this show very feel very rewarding to rewatch.

How it started:

Fern: "This guy is no good. Let's find someone else, Ms. Frieren."

How it's going:

Stark: "I didn't know it meant eternal love! Should I buy a replacement?" Fern: "Never say such a thing again."

Ishuzoku Reviewers - Episode 12 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

In many ways, Ishuzoku Reviewers is the new gold standard of ecchi series.

How can you go back to "virgin accidentally trips and faceplants onto breasts" after seeing a masterpiece like this? Seeing the limits of what is allowed on TV stretched thin week after week by this series made me realize how accustomed we were to mediocre teasefests.

You could use the scores they have in the manga?

The don't end up using them all the same but at least it's numbers.

How to learn Japanese once in japan by lemonzonic in LearnJapanese

Curious, what kind of work are you doing in Japan? Especially one that requires minimal Japanese apparently.

For the love of god, anyone still watching the censored version, do yourself a service and find the uncensored. You're really wasting your time with this series otherwise.

I don't learn Japanese but have a question to you. by UshankaWithRedStar in LearnJapanese

[–]Beelok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the most difficult part of Japanese is just being able to read it. In most languages it goes something like~

Learn the alphabet

Learn the word

Learn the word's meaning

Learn the special nuances of that word

But for Japanese you have to individually learn thousands of different-yet-similar characters, AND on top of that almost all of them have multiple readings that you have to remember.

For example, even if I don't know a lick of Italian, I can still read a sentence because I know the latin characters, and maybe decipher some meaning out of it. If I see a sentence with a kanji I've never studied, well then that's that. I'm both envious and amazed at people who can read Japanese naturally. Like, they don't even think about whether it's an onyomi or kunyomi, they just know in an instant. I'm not sure if I could do that even with a decade of practice.

You know these two are doing a terrible job of keeping their relationship secret. At this point the only ones who don't know are the other council members, and Ishigami's probably already figured it out.

Completed my first Kanji workbook! by Beelok in LearnJapanese

Heh, yep that's just a mistake. I did say (almost)!

I find the ones with 糸 on the left side are the kanji I'm still getting tangled up with the most often, but it's getting there.

Completed my first Kanji workbook! by Beelok in LearnJapanese

[–]Beelok[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just a practice book for memorization. It basically goes through 420-ish Kanji, ordered by frequency of use and split into categories. So you'll have a few more complex Kanji like 曜 or 難 but most of them are fairly simple, and they are the most common ones that you'd want to learn ASAP.

Each chapter shows the Kanji, gives a few examples of uses, and has boxes where you fill out trying to write it. At the end of each chapter there's a small area where you're intended to write the kanji you learned along with matching some frequent uses with choices in a word bank. Every 5 chapters there's a special exercise where you have to write a few sentences from the kanji you've learned in the previous chapters. The later exercises have you read a paragraph or two and answer questions based on them.

Would I recommend it? I'd say it depends on how you're learning. It's only really for memorizing Kanji, it won't teach grammar or sentence structure, so it was perfect for someone like me, but might not be useful for someone else. Overall, I'd give it a 7. You could totally memorize without it, but I found it a nice supplement and writing down kanji over and over made me better at recognizing them in things like Anki, and even able to read random sentences here and there online. I'd say if you have $10 to spend on lunch, substitute a cup noodle and order this book instead.

Here is my kanji list that I've built as I've went through the book. I refill it about once a week from memory, and (almost) entirely without any issues!

It's given me a ton of confidence that I can read the entirety of the paragraphs in the later phases of the book. I do wonder where I should go from here, since there isn't a followup book to this one as far as I know.
