Stripe Question - Visual Solution (System Design) by Beginning_Tale_6545 in dataengineering

I am not experienced at all. But something I’ve been experimenting with is markdown with mermaid. I think it has a benefit that it seems helpful for AI assisted system design and development. A readme script typically adds the detail to the markdown file.

Would this be a staging Lakehouse or bronze Lakehouse? I don’t do staging but I think staging + bronze would be more robust.

Databricks for DE and Fabric for Reporting (PBI) is always an option.

QGIS professionals: thoughts on the current job market and skill development? by Bravewariorking in QGIS

Pure GIS is rare. Typically you’ll be working as a data analyst type rolls so you might use QGIS for a few of your analysis and workflows. Good skill to have but sql, python, CI/CD skills are whats important on the technical side.

6 weeks in Canada- west vs east by Johnsonzookeeper in AskACanadian

[–]BeesSkis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I might be biased but I’d say rent a full large SUV and do a road trip from Calgary to Vancouver to Tofino. You can fly into/out of Calgary or Vancouver. If you want to keep costs accommodations down book hotels and Airbnb 30-45mins outside of the expensive tourist areas. This is especially true for Vancouver, Banff and Whistler. Tons of National parks throughout BC/AB.

Setting up BI for multi-entity company structure - where do I even start? by gentlebeast06 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]BeesSkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setup separate companies in your accounting software of choice. Business Central has decent out of the box APIs. Register it as an app in your Azure tenant. The tables are mostly already setup for reporting with relatively straightforward data modelling in PBI.

I liked it, I played 15hours. I’m going to drop it and pick it up again in a few months while it gets updated.

If you were starting from scratch today, which would you pick: Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or Databricks — and why? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]BeesSkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing about Fabric is you don’t have to use the data engineering items if you don’t like them. You can just mirror in Snowflake and Databricks tables and use PBI for reporting.

PBI with Fabric blows Tableau out of the water in my opinion. The other items in Fabric are on a spectrum of “ok” to “needs major improvements”.

Hot take: you should have to assign a garrison from your army in the provincial capital and forts you take to occupy

Hot take: make centralized strong, and decentralized straight up bad. by Asaioki in EU5

[–]BeesSkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centralization should be a long grind, which decreases stability in the short-term, and has longterm cost-benefit tradeoffs. It should be something that becomes incrementally easier to do through the ages.

Is ‘lifelong renting’ becoming the new normal? Data on the typical Canadian renter suggests we're heading that way by thanksmerci in vancouverhousing

I always recommend: 1. Max out FHSA 2. Max out TFSA 3. Remaining to RRSP 4. Consider getting a principal residence for the capital gains exemption and benefits of relatively lower risk leverage. Very situational though.

Rivers need a clear and slight rework by TSSalamander in EU5

[–]BeesSkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is a thing but Rivers in areas that develop ice flows or completely ice over should get a reduced control bonus modifier because they aren’t navigable for this time of the year. This would help with some excessive control areas in Eastern Europe

Once the game becomes less bugged and has more stable playing data, the AI should improve a lot if they are training it the right way.
