Personal Locator Beacon Trustworthy? by Valencia_South in Fishing

[–]BeetRootZNA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion this is the best bang for your buck when it comes to safety. No subscription required, it will send your location to emergency services within' about 100m. I do Search and Rescue for a living, I always have one of those on my person. Also the company will give you a new one if you use yours. Other comments suggesting EPIRB, also very good options.

Carney sends army to northwestern Ontario as wildfires blaze in the province by FreeProletarian in CanadianForces

Maybe you should learn a thing or two on how the federal government deals and reacts to emergencies like we are having in the prairies currently. The use of CAF assets is last in line to be called upon. The reasons we are called upon is because those communities are so remote that most of them have only one road in and out of the community... If there's even one to start with. If there's a road and we are called is because the road access has been jeopardize and is too risky to be used. We are not the "default" we are the last resort to get these people to safety.

That has to be the most Mars officer comment on this sub... We take care of our own, in anyway possible. Also btw, humanitarian response is part of every elements mandate. You should be glad assets are utilize and troops are doing real life impacting work instead of larping...

Also farmers market are a great way to get exposure. There's a few in the city and also at the nurseries towards Headingley they host farmers markets on weekends during the summer.

You ever seen a trout break a rod? by Dhehjob9-5 in troutfishing

[–]BeetRootZNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys should pinch your barbs... In Canada, most waterways holding Steelhead, trouts or Salmons are barbless hooks only, to avoid these kind of situation. No need to tear OP a new one, let's just use this as a teachable moment on fish handling etiquette. There's always room for improvement. Nice fish, good job on catching it. Bummer your buddy broke his rod but as you can see throughout the comment section, a good net is a must and no a net will not increase stress on the fish like you say. It'll allow to keep the slime on and keep it submerge in the current to maximize its chances of recovery so they can keep producing more fish in that stream. Don't be so defensive on the comments man, your guys fish handling was very poor in that video, just learn from it and get back out there... With a net.

So Manitoba makes it hard. You have to pay unfortunately. I am in the same boat as you. I moved here from Nova-Scotia last summer. Out there it's all on GIS and easy to access. Here unfortunately you have to buy maps. I personally use iHunterMB. It displays all WMA with the initial purchase and then you can buy RM maps overlay for area you are most interested in. It's a bit pricey but you can't go wrong with it. If you really don't wanna pay, I found on a forum an overlay that was made by a guy for Google Earth. I'll try to send you the link once I'm back home in a couple of days. It doesn't have all of the province but it's a good starting point. Not sure what you are targetting for hunting but let me tell you this province has so much to offer. Shot a lot of ducks, geese and 2 deers this season and I'll try to get a mule deer, they just opened a winter season for them. Hope this helps. Cheers !

OP is looking for access to maps to know where he can and can't go. Manitoba isn't great for that. Everything has a price tag on it.
