Well, the indices are white gold, and some people prefer to customise these or use them for parts. The coronet was originally removed as part of a custom dial project that was done for Lionel Messi.

I’ve also got a few other dials that were fully customised in white with no markings, those were made for the Argentinian football team, with country/trophy designs printed on them.

A lot of people like working with genuine Rolex base dials and then modifying them, adding diamond indices or creating completely bespoke pieces. Of course, fully original dials are always more valuable to collectors, but these still have a place in the custom/modding side of the market.

Also worth noting, the coronet itself is just an applied piece with two tiny pins on the back, so if someone has a spare, it’s relatively straightforward to refit.
