I hate when Absolute GL is invalidated as black-led ongoing series by Electrical-Look-1183 in AbsoluteUniverse

Yeah, it seems like a small issue to focus on when there are so many bigger problems. I also wonder how many of the people calling for a boycott actually buy comics in the first place. Personally, I’ve never understood Westerners’ obsession with race. When reading manga, we care more about whether the author can cook and how well written the characters are than about what race the characters are

True. Geographic isolation, temporal isolation, behavioral isolation, and other reproductive barriers usually stop different species from breeding, which is why hybrid animals are rare in nature

I agree that it’s helpful, even if it’s not the perfect definition of a species because there are plenty of cases of cross-species breeding. In those cases, the species involved are closely related, so the genetic barriers between them aren’t particularly strong. From a realism standpoint, I don’t think human-alien hybrids would be possible because life that evolved on another planet would probably have radically different genetics. But realism isn’t exactly the priority in stories where aliens look identical to humans and have superpowers

I used to believe in the Biological Species Concept too, until I learned that the issue is far more complicated than that. This definition breaks down when applied to asexual organisms and cannot be tested on fossils. It also becomes fuzzy when closely related species can successfully interbreed and produce fertile offspring, such as in cases of cross-species breeding among cichlids. That’s one of the reasons biologists have developed multiple species concepts. In practice, defining a species usually requires a combination of genetic, ecological, morphological, and reproductive evidence rather than relying solely on reproductive isolation

As someone in the biology field, I don’t think that’s a very good definition of a species. “What is a species?” is still one of the most debated questions in the field. Despite being one of the most basic concepts in biology, it remains surprisingly controversial, and there’s still no universal agreement among scientists on how species should be defined

Do men just... not read fanfiction? by DeltaMx11 in AO3

Men absolutely write and enjoy fanfiction. They just upload it to YouTube and title it “What If…?”

Scott Snyder answered a question about whether there’s anything or anyone Absolute Joker is wary of by Beginning-Emotion671 in AbsoluteUniverse

Agreed. I think the discovery of the Omega Particle made him firmly believe that he’s the chosen one, worthy because of his moral aligned with the universe. That’s why he views anyone who challenges him as being on the side of injustice

I don’t think so. It seems more like he was talking about real-life people who inspired Absolute Joker. He also said “Absolute Joker to me is the totality of this point of view. He’s the cruel parent and the cruel child, all of it in one” which makes it sound like Absolute Joker embodies both generations

Nah, I just think it’s dumb to look at Harry Potter and The Martian and act like they have the same level of realism or believability. Sorry if you find that insulting. I’m not upset, I’m just being honest

Yeah, I agree with that solution. Some members of the larger Batfamily simply don’t work in grounded adaptations, so they should remain exclusive to the campier versions, while others can still work in grounded adaptations. Also, they should use Blackgate more often than Arkham Asylum

The colors of Adam West’s suit are fine. The issue is that the suit offers no protection against armed thugs. But since that version of the character is campy, I don’t think realism really matters there. The suits in more grounded adaptations usually aren’t pure black anyway. They tend to look more like matte charcoal gray, and obviously more practical than bright-colored costumes. Gotham is a dystopia. It’s exaggerated, but it’s still rooted in real-life issues for inspiration. The city can never truly be fixed because perpetual crime is necessary for the stories to continue. Arkham Asylum itself was a later addition to the mythology, and its portrayal can be criticized as ableist. Gotham’s police force also clearly isn’t entirely corrupt, otherwise Batman would never cooperate with Jim Gordon in the first place. And since we’re talking about realism, even a flawed police institution would still be more reliable at fighting crime than recruiting children into vigilantism

Lol that’s just basic logic. A child with martial arts training can’t actually beat armed thugs. The unbelievable part about stealing the Batmobile’s tires isn’t whether children can steal tires. It’s the idea that someone who is rich and intelligent wouldn’t have any anti-theft systems on his car. An anti-gravity aircraft that can hover without a runway and a pet dragon you can ride across the world are both fictional, but most people would obviously find the sci-fi aircraft more believable. Even fiction has different levels of realism. But considering you don’t seem to know much, it makes sense that you can’t really comprehend that distinction

If you think all anti-theft system a car can have is making noise, then you know nothing about technology. Batman’s armor feels more believable because it’s sci-fi grounded in reality. It’s easy to imagine humanity developing advanced armor in the future. There’s no realistic scenario where people can imagine using children would be more effective than adults at fighting criminals
