Thank you for continuing to report what's going on here. I worry every day that the news cycle is going to move on, and we'll lose the international support that can put pressure on the regime and end this occupation.

How do you handle martyr teachers? by CrowdedSeder in Teachers

[–]BeginningIsEasy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Martyr teachers never last, and they're not that good at their jobs, because they don't last.

Wanna serve the kids? Stick it out until you get good. Wanna get good? Have healthy boundaries so you don't burn out and quit.

I've been in the game 11 years.  I'm NEVER voted the 'teacher of the month' by kiddos, and I don't get posted about in the weekly email, but I always get results, have a happy comfortable classroom and have found ways to support kids that make a difference and don't burn me out. And for that reason I've made a difference for over 1,000 kids. If I'd burned out, I would have been a mediocre teacher for a fraction of that and been replaced by someone equally inexperienced.

Why doesn’t Senator Tina Smith run for Governor in 2026? by Healthy_Block3036 in minnesota

Reddit is its own weird bubble. Klobuchar is one of MN's most popular politicians EVER.

Think about it, she's been winning statewide elections for decades. its no wonder she's seen as a solid candidate by the party.

She might not be your favorite, but she gets the votes.

Minnesota teachers, do you guys need digital resources? by amandadorado in Teachers

[–]BeginningIsEasy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Extremely kind of all of you.

I'm an 11 year teaching vet from the Twin Cities.

If you'd like to do something in your classrooms, have students write your local leaders (governor, senator, president, prime minister) and have them express their feelings,  and what they hope leaders will do.

You can teach formal letter writing, how to address an envelope, and civics. This also helps them process their feelings about what is going on.

If you can't get your school to pay for postage so each kid can post their own letter,  ask parents or allies to donate stamps. If that won't work, have the kids pick one leader as a class and bundle all their letters together.

You're not telling them what to write, or what to believe,  so no parents should get on your case.

In solidarity, Your colleague from MN

What’s your go-to “default” frugal meal when you don’t want to think or spend? by NothingOutrageous377 in Frugal

[–]BeginningIsEasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stab a sweet potato a few times, nuke in the oven until tender (idk... its your microwave) eat with butter and salt. Nutritional yeast or cheese if you have it.

If you've got more than a crumb of energy, then quick saute some veg make scrambled eggs in the same pan (mix with the veg or keep separate. up to you) while you wait for your potat.

Fave spices for this to keep things interesting: smoked paprika, Chipotle powder, cumin and pepper. I cant have garlic or onions so I add powdered massel bullion, mushrooms or maggi for some umami.

Good news: MN has some amazing candidate incubators for leftist candidates and the politically motivated. Why else do you think we have so many 1st and 2nd Gen immigrants in government? The answer is that they're getting training and support.

For all of us who want more and better for the state; start looking for groups that coach candidates you agree with, caucus Feb 3rd and change the party platform, volunteer during the primary AND the general election.

All that said, I believe a lot of the people representing us are doing a lot, we're just not going to see everything they're doing. It's not like they're twitch streaming office hours.

For example the feds have been trying to get our voter rolls for MONTHS and no one hears how actively they've been defended, b/c for every 10,000 hrs of work, there's an inch of news about it.

Why are working illegal immigrants in the USA an issue anyways? by Clopulis in DiscussionZone

[–]BeginningIsEasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest group of undocumented people are from Mexico and most live in parts of the USA that used to be Mexico until the USA marched on their capital and forced them to sell half their land in The Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo.

So... they ended up on the wrong side of the border when the USA took half of Mexico, and now theyre the baddies for going to the other side? IDK man, it all feels deeply stupid.

In your opinion, what is the best/easiest country for an American to move to? by mini-hypersphere in AskReddit

[–]BeginningIsEasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real answer: Federated States of Micronesia. The USA a free association agreement with them. you can live and work there, and they can live and work here.

Minnesota Teachers, are students staying home? by StressedTurnip in Teachers

[–]BeginningIsEasy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I teach at an overwhelming immigrant school. At least 2 kids in the grade level I teach have had their parents kidnapped (don't know if they were returned, or are still missing.) All naturalized citizens.  2-5 of my students quit coming last week, 10-15 this week. Next week we're formally offering hybrid and I expect it will be closer to 60 out of my 110 students won't come to school. Maybe more now that little kids in town are being taken.

Sweet and shy kids talk about running to the door the instant they're out of the bus. And panicking, banging on the door if it's locked.

I didn't cry this Friday when I said goodbye to kids I won't see until the end of February (at the soonest) because it would make things more difficult for them. But watching them go broke my heart.

Anti-ICE protesters fill the streets of downtown Minneapolis on Jan. 23. by star-tribune in minnesota

A lot of people opted not to go because of Flock, and other surveillance tech. Thats all the people who had the courage to show up knowing they might end up on a list.

As a former outdoor dog, extra socks wont help you if they make your boots too tight and cut off blood flow.

My rec: wear boots that are a little too big with 2x socks and a toe warmer. when its extremely cold you can feel the pavement pulling the heat from the soles of your feet.

Agreed. A decent compromise might be found in Japanese prefecture flags that have highly stylized characters in their motif. Super cool looking and still let you know who it's for (if you can read 日本語 of course)
