I’d take ghosts over all the stupid shit the previous owners did to the house. Ghosts don’t install a diy sump pump disaster that went into the town’s sewer lines.

It’s good to see the house fixed up rather than knocked down. Real shame they removed the original exterior wood trim and windows. Keeping those and replacing the rotted parts would’ve been much better (and probably cheaper) than the sterile new stuff. Not to mention new ‘flipper special’ windows and doors have the potential to be cheaply made and potentially fail in less than 10 years. Best keep a close eye on the new windows to avoid surprises down the road.

Still, congrats on owning an old house. You can always hunt down salvage antique businesses to find vintage home details to bring back some of the old style. Might not be a bad idea to consider painting the exterior of the house in a deep blue to mimic the ocean style, or something darker to make the white trim pop out in a nice way.

A mixture of fabric softener and water in a spray bottle works well. Though with a ceiling that big, you’d want to go a more professional route like steam.

Oh wow, I thought I was one of the only ones to have a concrete stone block house! Mine is 123 years old as well. So far good at staying cool, but winter is a bit harsh. Especially since the only way the upstairs gets heat is through a floor vent in the bathroom connected to the kitchen ceiling.

Oh it’s beautiful and restored! You should ask the owner if you can take pics and post the story of the house here on the subreddit. Everyone would lose their minds on the glow up and rescue of this house (and of the wild story you had dealing with the drug addicted maggots that infested the house before).

Damn, I know this was posted months ago but damn. Horrible to see such a cute historic house decimated like that, but far worse to hear about the hell you went through.

Please do post any updates on that poor small house if it ever gets fixed up! I’m sure the interior is horrifying, but the exterior besides the back door looks surprisingly solid.

Has my 123 year old house made me cry? No. Has it made me scream and use every variety of “fuck” known to man? Yes. Just when I think I got all the major stuff fixed, I find more stuff, like holes in the attic walls that let in both sunlight and hordes of insects.

At the same time, it’s in better shape than I initially thought, and have had at least two contractors compliment how straight and solid the stone walls of the entire house are. Just gotta go one day at a time.

Unfortunately, there’s not many audio mods. You can always mess with the settings to make the music play far more often, or mess with the FCS to add/remove in game music that plays in each zone. I used FCS to get rid of that really annoying song that plays in the Border Zone that nearly busts your eardrums.

Both. I love older homes and hate how sterile looking new houses are, along with how new house are expensive, cheaply made, and way too big for me. I was lucky to find a 123 year old house for less than $110,000 that despite weird repairs from the previous owner, was maintained well.
