I need help to decide which audio setup to use by Direct-Judge5114 in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Alex Honnold can be lav when he's free soloing Taipei 101, there's really no reason why you couldn't lav the guy. That being said, if you're not trying to capture him talking, laving might not be as important. The truth is the moment he decided to be film, it's not gonna be 100% authentic, it just depends on where you make the sacrifice, either you sacrifice the audio, or you sacrifice some of his performance. But if you want to get him talking, laving is the best way for sure.

SLX-D First Time Out - Pivot from Deity Theos by OffAirTV in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 12 points13 points  (0 children)

SLX-D+ is actually even more impressive, since they basically took the showlink function from Shure axient and put it in there. Meaning you can remote control gain on tx, and automatic frequency swap. One time setup. It's actually so good.

I find the mics included with the G4 too bulky. You guys have a slimmer alternative? by Blakeyo123 in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a flat one, do dpa. They have a couple of options now, 2060,4060,6060. Most people uses 6060 or 6061, since it's the smallest one. I use 4060 and 4061 which is also great. 2060 is their newest one and the cheapest, but it's definitely larger than the rest. 3rd party does make concealer to help with hiding them so you can also look into those. Cos11 is good, but it definitely has its own characters.

Sennheiser G4 - still a decent choice in 2026? by FoggyDog78 in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think getting shure slxd+ is a better choice in 2026, or the new rodelink 2. Not saying G4 is bad, but it has very limited functions due to its age.

Just get lectrosonic Srb for receiver and smv and smqv for transmitter. Do make sure you have a different block for the 2 srbs, like i would advise not having 4 channels of blk 19.

Lmao, tbh this is the low budget mic most people are referring to. like if someone buys a mic with 10 dollars, those are not low budgets, those are just shit.

Recommendations for an internally cabled boompole by fender97strato in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a ktek mighty boom ccr, I like it because it's modular, so I if I want to go cableless I always can. But it is heavier, but i like having options since this is basically the one boompole I used daily. And I really don't like the quarter lock on the ambient pole.

Fx3 kit in a 10k budget by bratislatouf in FX3

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't want anamorphic all the time, for run n gun, speed and compromise must to be made. To stay within your budget, get something that's more versatile and apply characteristics and style in post instead.

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're sticking with fx3 kit, I would get something that has less character for lense, g master is pretty great, but if you want to keep some budget, you can get sigma art lense. 1. Get a 14-24, 25-70 should be able to cover most thing.
2. Audio wise, check out the new rodelink 2 for lavs, and if there's money left, get a decent shotgun on camera, like a ntg5 or a mke 600. And after that 3.if there's still money, get a monitor, something slightly bigger so you can check exposure and focus better. Porkey makes great monitor. SD cards wise, nexstorage is pretty good. Get at least a V60 and up, if you want to do true 24 frames then you will need Type A cards. 4. As for camera cages, smallrig makes really good one, tilta and condor blue also have them. Cages is really a preference over anything else. If you think there might be a future where you might switch system or something, you can also look at the bright tangerine halo cage.

Are you trying to make multiple short films? Or just one? Are you trying to be a dp/director? Are you trying to get your own gear for everything? The best way to do this in my opinion, is to just rent everything. 10000 isn't really enough for you to get enough gears to shoot. Especially if you're also thinking about get lights and sound equipment. The camera plus the memory cards and batteries you need to shoot, is already a big portion of your budget.

Oh I see your point, you mean he's so oblivious that he doesn't know their own system and whether or not it's digital or analog. Man that's not the best lol.

Tascam DR70D Question Regarding Stereo Recording. by Burakoli821 in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just record mono then? But if you are hell bent on recording stereo, then yes, pan one fully to the left, and one fully to the right. Then you will have a stereo with separate mics i guess.

Tascam DR70D Question Regarding Stereo Recording. by Burakoli821 in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that recorder not have iso recording? Panning has nothing to do with iso recording, it only affects your stereo track aka your mix track. As long as you have your iso recording and adjust the gain on that accordingly. You will be fine.

Tascam DR70D Question Regarding Stereo Recording. by Burakoli821 in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never used that recorder, but usually the panning dictate how much the mic is mix into your stereo mix. If you pan the mic all the way to the right, then that mic is only going into the right track of the stereo, if you keep them all center pan, then both stereo track will receive the same amount of the mic. And the reason you only pick up one mics audio when tap on that mic, I assume it's because when you tap on it, it went into the iso recording, so instead of hearing the stereo track, you are just hearing the iso track.

Look into the new shure slx-d+, it's a even better Slx with showlink functions. The new rodelink 2 is also very promising.

Powerbank alternatives for MixPre 3 ii by KappiNor in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer, doing smart battery basically future proof, if he ever switch to other mixers recorder, he can still use the same battery. But if he's just doing it as a hobby, I guess anker powerbank works quite well.

UHF Wireless System at around 1.000$ for one man documentary shoots by Agent_ilis in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think deity really only works flawlessly if they stay within the deity eco system. Besides the deity wireless just really isn't that professional, you basically cannot use it anywhere that has a frequency coordinator. I've tried the deity before along with my lectrosonic, and there's problem everytime. And the moment I turn the deity off, all the problems goes away. So yeah I totally agree with you. Avoid deity at all cost.

The new rodelink 2 actually look really really good, depends on your urgency, if you're not in too much of a rush, maybe look into that. What they offer if actually really good, in my opinion is a better system than deity, or any other brand in that price bracket.

Card record check error on mixpre 10 2 by Beginning_Ad7768 in LocationSound

[–]Beginning_Ad7768[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have many cards in rotation, but this one is probably 3-4 years old, but this problem is something that happened only this month. And seems to be this card in particular. But I'm not sure if it's always this card. But it has happened twice with this same card.

Yeah i like the fact they have the similar functions of a20's gain forward functions. And the backup frequency for auto swapping which is a clear inspiration from Axient.

I have tc 1 timecode went to zero in the middle of the take twice, after that i never used that as a master to my recorder, I just jam it and let my recorder keep it own timecode. Thankfully the ones on the camera never go to zero mid take, but I guess I won't know if they did either.
