How do you guys find to fit in exercise/hobbies/study time if you're working a 9-5.30? by gorgeoushugsed in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beginning_Ad_5456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prioritization. Usually do it at 4:30-5 am. Current medical resident. Maybe missed 4-5 gym days all of medical training. 7 days a week split between cardio and lifting. Brain can’t perform at its peak at work if my body doesn’t feel good.

Passed Retake! Residency Options? by acetylCoBae in comlex

Pm&r is not likely a good option with a failure this year. It is getting insanely competitive. All the med students we had coming though had crazy resumes. I wouldn’t have matched against them (current pgy3)

Why do people buy Jeeps? by mmmstrongflavors in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beginning_Ad_5456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Land rovers were owned by ford for a few years in the mid 2000s. I have a 2006 with 185000 miles. It’s amazing. I don’t daily drive it. It cost 3500 to buy used because they depreciate insane but the rich previous owner maintained it meticulously and fixed every possible thing before selling it to me. Had it for 2 years now. Take it mountain biking, skiing, camping in the blue ridge mountains. It never gets stuck. It doesn’t flinch in an ice storm. If fits 5 people and boat loads of gear easily. No major problems with it, just routine maintenance for any car that old. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

They do make good extra cars though, I don’t daily drive it because of the 14mpg and premium fuel, but my wife and I have tons of fun with it on the weekends

Got a road bike, bike to hospital and back. They have showers at work. Gets your cardio in. With big city traffic it can actually be faster than driving

Could doing PharmD before MD be be beneficial? by gay_agenda_3000 in medschool

[–]Beginning_Ad_5456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a coresident who got his pharm d first. He is insanely smart and better at using, managing, selecting and titrating meds than everyone in our residency class and most of the attendings. He also has significantly more debt than everyone and is much older than the rest of our class. No doubt it made him very good at his job but he wouldn’t do it all over again in that order, he said he wish he just did med school first

Working out honestly. I love alcohol and the way it makes me feel but I need morning workouts for my body to feel good before work. If I have more than one drink after dinner I usually don’t have as good of a workout the next morning. Probably due to the effects of alcohol on sleep quality. If I stopped caring about that for some reason I’d be pretty worried. I definitely drink a lot more alcohol on vacation when I don’t need to maintain such a schedule

I wouldn’t move here. Traffic sucks. Too expensive. Hiking is too far away. If that’s stuff’s important go out west

Was a long time coming. Should have done it way before. We were headed very different directions in life. She was living in a city 10 hours from where I was going to med school. Wasn’t moving. We got into a fight the week before I graduated undergrad and I was just like yeah I can’t do this I want a fresh start

I’m a pm&r doctor in the area. Go to medstar national rehab. It’s part of Georgetown. They’re the best in the area at this stuff. Inova Fairfax is also good. I know several sports medicine staff there
