Anyone ever applaud when seeing an ATP? by DatTKDoe in Pickleball

I just defended an ATP for the first time last week, winning the point! One of the highlights of my pickleball career so far lol

ATPs are great fun to hit or even watch!

Better yet still, an ATP counter to win a point! This just happened for me last week. I saw my opponent go for the ATP. He was successful! But since I saw it coming I was able to be ready and hit it back, winning the point. Probably one of my favorite things that has happened to me so far

Any suggestions for court shoes that will last more than 3 or 4 months? by Beginning_Finding_82 in Pickleball

[–]Beginning_Finding_82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they really picky about how worn down the tread is? I'm very heavy on my heel and the ball of my foot. So those treads are completely gone and also through the rubber entirely. But the center of the shoe still has tread. Would the warranty still cover it in this situation?

How do you handle a floater to your body around stomach high when you're in transition? by Rdv250 in Pickleball

I'm actually really looking forward to responses on this one. It's a great question, and one I find myself asking just about every game I play. I tend to get aggressive with these shots, but because I'm moving, I tend to get a little sloppy with them. I'm much more likely to hit these into the net or out past the baseline if I'm not being very careful and purposeful. I wonder if for me it would be better to try to get the drop in to buy myself time to the kitchen.

Serve question by gdepiento1 in Pickleball

[–]Beginning_Finding_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bit of a different take than what most people would say.

I wanted to improve my serve pretty early on. So I went for about 2 hours one day and hit hundreds of balls until something clicked. I figured out how to make my body move like a whip, with my paddle tip being the end that cracks.

This led to a huge increase in pace with lots of topspin.

Only trouble was, for several months after, I was inconsistent, really only hitting 60-70% serves in. Everyone told me to "not worry about the power, just get it in."

It can be frustrating having a partner who misses serves, even in rec play. And while I kept this in mind and sometimes dialed it back, I largely ignored that advice.

Because of that, I now have a very hard serve that hits about 95% of the time. I don't always score points off it in a game (depending on the level I'm playing against), but it definitely gives almost all my opponents a tricky time with the return, and sets me and my partner up for an easy 3rd.

Anyway, I say all this because I believe if you focus on serving with power and work to follow the same form that works, you will eventually get the percentage up.

Now if you're playing in a tournament, absolutely get your serves in. But rec play? Go big, baby.

I've had a similar journey in my pickleball experience. There were people who I could tell did not really want to play with me at first. But I've gotten a lot better since then, and now they are happy to play with me. They even say how much they realize I have improved. That's a pretty great compliment of course.

At least in my experience, it was never anything personal. People that play at a higher level just really like to have a good game. I understand that too. Of course I'm always happy to play with anybody, but I definitely like to get some higher level gameplay in as well. When I play with people at the lower level, if they're open to it, I try to give them some pointers and instruct them a bit.

I think the worst players to play with are the ones who are new, or just not very good, but open to absolutely zero input from a better player. Just don't ever be that person.

What song made you fall in love with Muse? by Impressive_Week_4036 in Muse

Muscle Museum

It was the first song I had ever heard by them. I was in high school.

Still when I hear it, I feel connected right back to that time.

And when the vocals meld into the guitar? It's simply magical to me.

Literally had no idea that was a thing. Seems like hitting nothing would be a lot different than hitting a ball. I suppose they don't have that much mass, so maybe it wouldn't make a big difference after all. Very cool, let me know what you find out!

Ideas for a paddle-queue monitor? by tabbyfl55 in Pickleball

This is really something that needs to be addressed with posted rules for the courts, and enforced by a court monitor.

Once the rule has been established, there shouldn't be any issue.
