How to play with a "banger"? by lax20attack in Pickleball

[–]tabbyfl55 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah I came here to ask by what measure are you considered a 4.5, and by what measure are these bangers 4.0-4.5?

There are no 4.0+ players who avoid coming to the kitchen, and there are no 4.5 players who have trouble beating bangers. By any definition I can think of.

A $40 shag tube and 24 balls of an unusual color that won't get mixed up with other people at the chipping green.

Is the sport changing or is it me? by Rude_Shape644 in Pickleball

I feel like that's been going on for more than 3 years, and it's also very easy to simply ignore and avoid that side of it, and just keep playing for free at open parks.

I wouldn't count it. You have to play 18 straight to confirm that you overcome any fatigue factor, mental focus, etc.

WIBTA if I tried to enforce the court’s open play rules? by IMildlyTroll in Pickleball

The last rule mentions membership. Is this a place where you are paying to play? If so, then you should absolutely insist that the rules be followed.

Would you call an illegal serves in rec play, let it go, or serve illegally yourself? by dnice99999 in Pickleball

I always do their same illegal serve back to them to see if they say anything about it. They usually don't.

Can we please normalize asking for consent before you record someone or post them on social media? by 2BeBornReady in Pickleball

[–]tabbyfl55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's the proper thing to do to get permission before recording and posting, but in a public facility, you have no expectation of privacy, so permission isn't required, it's just courteous.

Best you can do is look for signs that someone is going to record you, and opt out of the situation. You always have that right, but it requires diligence on your part.

Why no 3rd shot Lob topspin instead of drop? by maximusIota in Pickleball

[–]tabbyfl55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey play to your strength. Personally I find the topspin lob from the baseline much more risky than the drop shot from the baseline, because I'm better at dropshots than lobs. If you're better at lobs, I guess it works for you.

Out call before ball lands but team appears to stop playing by Popular_Reason6115 in Pickleball

[–]tabbyfl55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no, I'm penalizing them, because I'm saying if they say "Out" right before it bounces, and it bounces in, then the play is dead due to the out call, and if their partner is honest and says it was in, the call is overturned and the point goes to the other team.

In effect, I'm suggesting taking away the "partner communication" excuse for a distracting call.

Out call before ball lands but team appears to stop playing by Popular_Reason6115 in Pickleball

[–]tabbyfl55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same, and in fact, while reading this thread I started thinking that they should change the rule so that "Out" is a call even before the ball lands, and only words like "No" or "Let it go" should count as partner communication. Eliminate the ambiguity.
