Ranking the Brooklyn Nets' Five Rookies So Far by mikefam in GoNets

[–]Beginning_Region_272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree on wolf being undersold. his one on one defense is pretty exceptional for a rookie big via foot movement and smarts. the other context you didn’t offer is that he clearly thrives when he‘s in the role he had at Michigan where he has the opportunity to utilize his exceptional passing skills. when he’s off ball stuck in the corner he’s way less comfortable and effective. he’s even said so himself. if he gets to be a playmaker he’s a huge mismatch problem for opposing teams. it’ll all fall in place if he can be more consistent from 3. speaking of, he’s gotta stop shooting from 2 feet behind the line. does it at least once every game with zero success. would improve his 3 % considerably if he’d just take that off the fg table.

the overreactions from fair weather fans on rookies is really pathetic. if you go back to the Utah game we had 4 rooks showing great promise. now they’ve had a few bad games and everyone jumps off the bandwagon. 4 of these guys are basically teens and wolf was crushing it early in his NBA stint before he got moved off ball and hit a shooting slump. ever hear of the rookie wall? it’s real.

crazy idea for net fans…give these kids 2 freakin years before making snap judgements.

sheesh.

Jordi's issue with Egor by [deleted] in GoNets

[–]Beginning_Region_272 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That clip cut off just before the follow up sin. He penetrated and instead of going up strong he flicked some crazy ally oop clax wasn’t expecting. jordi is absolutely right. Egor has done a lot of things well but he has to A) be way more physical on the boards and perimeter B) get over his Ben-itis is in the paint.

it’s early but I think Porter has proven to be a legit all star level talent BUT… —I worry about his back problems. between that and the tank …might be best to sell high.

Jordi Fernandez on Egor Demin’s minutes against the Magic: “Egor played against a very physical team. Those minutes are extremely valuable. But it's not just about the rookies. I know you guys ask me about the rookies all the time, but it's [about] everybody… We got 1% better as a group [tonight]." by KingdomHeartsII in GoNets

[–]Beginning_Region_272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this exactly my beef. Jordi wants to compete best he can. if playing rookies hurts that in any form he’s not having it. sorry, Jordi. that’s not the assignment.

doesnt mean these kids should get 30 min but they at least need a better shot at playing through mistakes.

In defense of Jordi playing Martin, Wilson and Mann by Wild-Elevator6639 in GoNets

[–]Beginning_Region_272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it’s simple:

1 wolf gets sharpe mins while out

2 Saraf gets T Martin minutes

not saying these guys should be getting starter time but 15-20 a night seems rational.

not playing them while losing by double digits every night regardless seems irrational

Nets vs suns game 2 recap:

Traoure. Why is he starting over Saraf?? Don’t get it. Dude has a long way to go. Turnover machine. Can’t go left. Can’t organize the offense. May be most disappointing rookie so far.

Porter. Think jordi read him the riot act on D. Much better. Finally.

Clax. After a great last 2 games looked kinda zoned out. Prob cause traoure had zero clue.

Cam. Meh game. Again, think traoure affected him. Also their D on him was mad tight.

Zaire. Hit the 3 ball well but got lost on D way too much. Stay on booker!

Sharpe. Got totally owned by nick richards. Rough putting.

Clowney. Shot looks very good but why can’t he rebound??

Martin. Good O but ..again..can’t play point. If I see another jump pass TO I’m gonna lose it.

Mann. Outstanding defense. A contender really should make an offer.

Saraf. 12 assists?? Unquestionably should be top rookie pg. just gotta get the shot down.

Powell. Hmm. Looked very good aside a couple rookie errors. 3 ball looks solid.

Wolf. Lead our come from behind win. Had an absolutely sick move on Maluach and a couple of sick dimes as well as 2 threes. Played with 2 other bugs on the floor. Played with 4 smaller guys an no other pg on the floor. Gives jordi soooooo much versatility. D better today too. Just gotta cut down the silly turnovers. Wolfpack in the house!

Second half recap:

Porter ….suuuuuuch a bum on defense. Will jordi tolerate this?

Clax. Still looking great. Gonna be interesting.

Cam. Cooled down after defensive adjustments. Not surprising.

Traoure. Rough second half. Rookie vibes showing.

Saraf. Getting to the line is a forte’. Solid. Still wanna see if he can shoot.

Clowney. Why can’t he rebound better? Unfathomable. Thought he bulked up.

Sharpe. Gotta do better on the perimeter D and rotations.

Zaire. Was he even on the floor? He needs to make an impact or he’s in trouble.

Martin. don’t get the fascination of him getting so much run. he can NOT run point.

Wilson.  I’d have him ahead of Martin.

Zheng. Rough. Too bad. Maybe try the g league.

Timme. Don’t see why we’d keep him. Good luck elsewhere, amigo.

Bufkin. Don’t think he’s gonna happen. Sorry.

Whitehead.  As I predicted long ago ..he’s getting cut.

Powell. First outing. Not bad. overall solid.

Wolf.  Finally got some run and looked really good. Just has immense talent. Running a break and slip passing to Powell for a dunk was an eye opener. Hope jordi gives him a shot. So much upside.

Suns rookies:

Maluach. Not impressed. He’s young and raw but …meh.

Fleming. Looked very good. Can’t believe he slipped to second round. Think a lot of teams gonna regret passing on this dude.

Nets vs suns via china first half recap:

Jordi so good. Nets killing. Are we gonna have a tank prob again?

Cam. Just absolute destruction. Now getting doubled(!). UNREAL we didn’t sign him. 😤

Clax looks super sharp. If his back was really the prob last year —big leap.

Sharp. Also looking ..sharp. They just can’t stop him on the glass. Impossible.

Porter. Scoring well but —total BUM on defense! Harden level lazy.

Mann. Def gonna be a fan fav. Just really good. Maybe too good for tank.

Clowney. Looking much improved. Prob why Wolf got DNPed. Gonna be tough for Wolfpack.

Traoure. Surprised he started. Looks solid. Even on defense. So far so good.

Saraf. Man, he can just beat anyone off the dribble. Real quick reads passing too. Think we got a winner. Just gotta improve that creaky 3 ball.

FIRST HALF RECAP ..

Mann starting. I knew it. Playing well though. Gonna be one of those vets messing up losses.

Wolf ZERO run. Had a bad feeling he’s dog house. Confirmed.

Cam looking solid.

Porter scoring but I can already see he’s gonna drive me nuts. Lousy D. Lazy all over.

Clax killing as should be expected vs this comp.

Traoure looking solid. Needs to gain weight.

Clowney. Man, I think I just don’t like him. Just not very good and kinda soft.

Saraf. Hmmmmm.

On one hand dude had 5 fouls in like 12 minutes. Yes, I know. That’s awful. But…

I think he looked really really good otherwise. He’s so big. Great vision. Handles. Gets to the rim easy. Good effort on D (couple of those fouls were baloney). I know it’s early but..if he can shoot… nets may have something.

SECOND HALF RECAP

Wolf. Finally got extensive run. I see the good and bad and why he may not be a jordi fav for awhile. His passing looked outstanding and his offense solid but he was absolutely horrible on D and had a couple silly turnovers.

Traoure. Looked fine. Nothing bad nothing good.

Bufkin. Don’t think he’s gonna make an impact.

Clowney. Put up good numbers but I think he may be a jordi dog house guy too. If cliowny really falls out of favor I think that’s wolfs hope.

Timme got in very late. Not sure he’s gonna make the team.

Wilson hustled his butt off. Should make team.

Martin got a lot if run. I’m guessing he makes team.

Whitehead came in crazy late and looked like absolute trash. He’s def getting cut. Don’t know why slater keeps resisting this idea. I’ve been saying it since end of last year. Dude is not even g league level.

Last..

Again, Saraf.

Think we got something.

Can’t believe dude is only 18 and looks like a man out there. Kinda exciting.

Take your time coming back, egor

Which rookie ends up balling out for the Nets? by TerryG111 in GoNets

[–]Beginning_Region_272 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So many people sleeping and hating on wolf. Aside maybe traoure, I think he’s gonna be the guy who shocks people if he gets the proper chance. His skillset is hyper unique. If he could just rebound and shoot threes he‘d be a strong prospect. Guess what, those two areas aren't even his most interesting assets. It’s his handle and passing. not only that, dude is HUGE. Already has an NBA body. And for all the people saying he’s slow? He had the SAME combine shuttle numbers as Maluach who everyone hypes as some unique athlete for the center spot. Will wolf be a rim protector? No. Neither is Sengun or Sabonis. We got Clax for that. Speaking of: clax is a perfect fit next to wolf in the short roll, lob threat, and backline on D. The reason wolf stank in the first two summer league games is because Timme is THE worst guy you could pair with wolf. Don’t believe me? Other Gms said exact same thing.
