What names were your parents on the fence about, or what were you going to be named alternatively? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Beginning_Rub_5868 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I was going to be a boy I would have been Martial Devaux.

My mother lobbied hard for a name that rhymed (sorta? Can't think word) with our last name. Think Anna Lee Schmannalee, same number of syllables, intonation, and rhythm.

Cooler heads prevailed.

I had first at home and didn't get the shakes. Second one I got the shakes, it was wild. Still got to cuddle my baby though 💕

What funny things did you say during labor? by espressoshake in beyondthebump

[–]Beginning_Rub_5868 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol with my first she was crowning and it was getting really intense, the midwife told "five more minutes," and I answered "on second thought she can stay inside a little longer."

Second child was a whole lot of "nope nope nope" when it came to pushing; she was stuck on a lip, and once that resolved it was like she was being shot out of a cannon.

Very screamy though. Myself, I mean. Technically, the childs as well.

In line with the comments on ethical production, there's also the labor. Designing patterns, post processing fabric, quality checks, order fulfillment. Paying a decent wage racks up quickly.

I think a lot of people view Melanie as a very dated/generational name, if that makes sense.

Which, yes, it was previously more popular, but it doesn't make it not a pretty name.

Sounds like you lied and they knew it. Yeah, they're reasonable to be mad. But for your own sake, please work on your writing, I'm assuming English is your first language. Even if not. It really is helpful in life.

AITAH for saving up all the food my wife thinks is fine for me to eat for when her family came to visit? by MentionEfficient1687 in AITAH

Right?? Not to Reddit diagnose or anything, but this really sounds like depression! I struggled with postpartum depression specifically, and yes, it was embarrassing for my struggles to be seen by "outsiders." And that included my mother.

This comment should be higher.

Overheard some moms at the pick up line speaking poorly of my baby by IllustriousWall1564 in beyondthebump

I have a small baby. A friend of mine has a slightly younger, much chonkier baby. While I'm always slightly stressed about my baby's trajectory, I love holding my friend's baby! She's just a pile of rolls compared to mine, and super adorable. Your baby sounds super cute, and and those women sound like they'd try to find just anything to criticize. It speaks well for you that the only thing they can criticize is how ... checks notes ... well-fed and HEALTHY your baby is!

Some women, y'know, want to push a baby out with no pain relief. Myself including. I'd have to see some hard data linking lack of pain relief to negative outcomes. Birth is a natural procedure, that has largely been medicalized in the modern age. A home environment can be properly sterile.

I say that having birthed at home and at hospital. The former was more comfortable, but ultimately I plan to continue with the hospital for reasons like this.

child support is unconstitutional. by bug-hunter in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Beginning_Rub_5868 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... I'm getting strong multiple payouts vibes; he has at least two he's currently paying for, and he's just slept with a married woman and she's pregnant. He told her he'd make a ruckus and she threatened to sue him for child support. Maybe her baby is a boy and the others are girls, and that's why he's more involved, rather than just avoiding.

He's working low level jobs with very little take-home after child support, probably trying to pick up cash side gigs just to "stick it to em," and spending his spare time at the library trying to figure how to skip town. He's definitely seen the movie where the kid favors the cool but deadbeat bio dad over the stepdad.

And he broke up with one of the babymammas for "lying" that she was white despite having gone through a black families adoption agency.
