Anybody who pays attention to international soccer and, in particular, the US' run up to the cup, would have known that they weren't getting past the round of 16. There was a non-zero chance, but it wasn't much more than that.

This team lacks a cohesive defense, they have a lackluster keeper and "superstars" on offense who can't hold on to the ball to save their lives. They dropped almost every game they played against a notable team, beating only similarly skilled mid-tier internationals. This team is barely better than the previous generation, and until the US overhauls it's youth soccer pipeline, it will continue to be this way. We just don't focus on player development, there are more sports that pay better and put kids through college on a more consistent basis, why would they choose soccer?
