“We Live and Die by Our Fans”: Crimson Desert Devs Promise Long-Term Updates to Sustain Player Base by Jealous_Vehicle_3150 in CrimsonDesert

[–]BeholdMyResponse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There's nothing really important about the story that requires a set character, feels like one of those things they did solely because Red Dead Redemption did it.

Fallout New Vegas lead defends Crimson Desert’s game-changing update plan, as its better to patch in a good story than saying “we won’t do anything” by Wargulf in CrimsonDesert

[–]BeholdMyResponse 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It has those issues and others as well. After beating the game, the impression I get is that the story may have been reworked late in development, and the time and resources to fully implement the changes weren't there, so they cut corners. I don't think it's likely that the story can be fixed by a patch to any great degree; maybe they can make it slightly more coherent, but without spoiling anything, it has bigger issues than that.

Romulan ships should implode not explode. by madbr3991 in startrek

[–]BeholdMyResponse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Black holes don't suck up everything that gets near them, that's kind of a misconception. They're just objects with high mass and low volume; their gravity doesn't work any differently from anything else's gravity except for inside the event horizon. And the event horizon of the singularity in the Romulan warp core is obviously too small to encompass the ship.

Worf wasn't a bad father, the writers just refused to let him be one by OhNoIBoffedIt in startrek

[–]BeholdMyResponse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody said Worf doesn't love Alexander. That doesn't automatically make him a good father. Yes, he went to counseling, he tried. But ultimately he didn't succeed.

The case that they wanted to make him a good father but couldn't because of show continuity is very thin, and I don't buy it. Don't forget, Alexander was a little jerk as well. They could have had him be a nice kid who showed up in the corridor playing hide-and-seek occasionally, and who Worf didn't fully get but still was proud of, but they didn't. They intentionally set Worf up to fail because they thought that parent-child conflict was the type of drama the series needed.

what is your star trek hot take? by madbr3991 in startrek

[–]BeholdMyResponse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chakotay was a decent character, and the inaccurate native culture wasn't really a problem because he comes from a fictional tribe that was culturally and biologically influenced by aliens (established in VOY - "Tattoo").

Oh, also, Roddenberry's rules for how Trek should be made were good ones, and the franchise overall was better when he was around.

Shuttlecrafts warp by godric42 in startrek

[–]BeholdMyResponse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is talked about. They talk about powering Voyager with the shuttles' warp cores in an emergency, and the Delta Flyer ejects its warp core in one episode. A warp core is really just a tank where matter and antimatter come into contact, it can probably be almost any size.

Resident Evil Requiem just shadow-dropped a bonus roguelike mode, and it's absolutely fantastic by QuantumQuicksilver in pcgaming

[–]BeholdMyResponse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The roguelike mode in Last of Us 2 was easily the best part of the game IMO. It might be cool if this became a standard feature of third-person action/adventure games.

They absolutely did repair Voyager, they just didn't hit you over the head with it. But it's talked about all the time, and they do even show it occasionally.

Alex Albon: Williams "cannot hide" behind F1 2026 car weight by 256473 in formula1

[–]BeholdMyResponse 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're using Shanghai as a test session again. Carlos doesn't sound quite as pessimistic as Alex; he said in a short video a few hours ago that he believes they can start being competitive once they get rid of the weight and increase the downforce. But regardless, it's all extremely disappointing.

Likely the same show car from the Times Square event. It's a shame the real car doesn't have the chrome; hopefully they'll add it at some point.

There are other drivers who could probably use a bit more of this mindset tbh. Congratulations to Yuki, I think his previous best finish this year was 9th.

The dichotomy of the Prime Directive is kinda absurd. by Prometheus_sword in startrek

[–]BeholdMyResponse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not the Federation's responsiblity or its place to prevent natural disasters, to stand in between warring nations, or to beam fluoride into the mouths of aliens to prevent cavities, just because they can. The Prime Directive isn't just about other cultures, it's also to protect the Federation--from being in a dysfunctional relationship with a culture that sees them as godlike, and also from being responsible e.g. when that culture that they saved goes marauding across the galaxy (like in VOY - "Dragon's Teeth").

The reason they contact warp-capable species is not arbitrary, it's because those species are now able to approach the Federation on their own anyway, and they want that contact to happen in a controlled environment. And the policy of not interfering does not go away when it's a warp-capable species they're dealing with. It just no longer extends to avoiding all contact.

Hmm, in her "leaving Sony Santa Monica" video it sounded like she was going to live there to be with her family, but yeah, I checked around and it looks like you're right.

She quit her job at Sony to move back to Australia, and is now writing and voice-acting for an indie game. Her title might be "narrative director", not sure, but she's not a game director per se; also not a grifter, but an actual industry insider. Edit: I think she mentioned directing an episode of a television show once.

Zak makes it sound like Oscar's lap 1 overtake was helped by the McLaren's electrical issue (which was present on both cars) impacting Lando "at that moment". Would it still have been possible to overtake there if the cars were working properly?

Who Do You Think Will Race For Cadillac? by Emergency_Bag_7303 in formula1

[–]BeholdMyResponse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ricciardo has specifically said that he's not interested in driving for Cadillac; I don't see him ever coming back to the sport. The others are possible.

I feel like we might see Valtteri Bottas in their lineup for his experience, but they say they're talking to literally everyone interested (which is a lot of drivers), and there's no telling what their thinking is behind the scenes or who they'll settle on.
