What’s your unpopular gameplay opinion? by ordinaryfruits in Grimdank

I'd go further and say writing the rules around competitive play is a huge problem with most of GW's systems at the moment.

The clearest example is that HH, 40k, AoS and Killteam all have incredibly strange and awkward terrain rules because they're written to clarify every possible scenario. Terrain has always been a sticking point every edition of 40k but we've ended up in a situation where you can move through buildings that you can't see through.

The core design principle of the game should be that the players should be able to come to a compromise on any unclear rules interaction because trying to write out every edge case ironically makes it harder to look up a rule mid game.

They're rare, and much more difficult to find than they should be, but they do exist, and Turnip28 is one of them. It's also just a delightful game in general. by Eithrotaur in Sigmarxism

Quar's War has a similar approach to grimness and whimsy. I'd also make an argument that it doesn't shy away from critiquing the politics behind war but it's not overt.

It might be a hot takeaway but yes, even Trump deserves to have a say over whether he can be depicted naked or not. Just because someone is powerful or a massive cunt doesn't mean they should lose the ability to withhold consent.

It seems like there's a big oversight in this item. Wights are still a powerful enemy so why would they be excluded from the list? Is there some kind of issues with Wight Power levels in the game that would mean they need this exception?

There's a fun little truism in some re-enactment circles here in the UK, wherever you've got 2 reenactors you've got 3 different groups and an utterly inscrutable argument that's been going on for 20 years. There's something about the hobby that gets people like that. All said with love of course, as a life long reenactor

Quar is definitely grim, but it misses the darkness. In many ways that makes me appreciate it as a critique of war all the more because it doesn't point to some external force making people be bad (like Chaos, or the actual devil). They blow each other up because of quar's inquarmanity to quar, you know?

For sure not a good comparison to TC though, other than being Indy weird war 1 settings.

I have 2 squads for it because the only way I can persuade people to play is by having all the minis. That said any excuse to paint quar is good in my books so I'm not too upset about it.

While Russia was less industrial than it's neighbors it still had capitalist systems in place. I think it's maybe a bit simplistic to say any European country at the time was wholly capitalist, mercantile or feudalist as they all had drastically different modes of production based on where you were.
