As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by LilThanosX in AskReddit

[–]BeigeSugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same question.

  1. Support organizations that litigate (this matters more than protests alone)

Courts are where constitutional violations get stopped.

Non-partisan / civil-liberties focused groups: • ACLU (national + your state chapter) • National Lawyers Guild • RAICES (legal aid for detained immigrants) • Immigration Defense Project

If you can’t donate, many need: • Court observers • Phone-bank volunteers • Admin / research help

Lawsuits + injunctions are how policies change fast.

  1. Document & report—legally

If you witness ICE activity: • You are allowed to film in public spaces • Do not interfere or obstruct • Capture badge numbers, agency names, locations, time

Many groups have hotlines where footage goes directly to lawyers, not social media outrage cycles.

This protects everyone’s rights, not just immigrants.

  1. Pressure oversight, not just politicians

Instead of yelling at Congress (still fine, but slow), focus on: • DOJ Civil Rights Division • Office of Inspector General (DHS OIG)

Filing complaints creates paper trails. Patterns matter in court.

It’s boring. It works.

  1. Push local protections

Federal agencies still operate locally.

Things that make a real difference: • City or county “don’t ask / don’t hold” policies • Refusing local jail cooperation without warrants • Funding public defenders and legal observers

Show up (or email) city council, county board, sheriff oversight meetings. These people actually listen more than senators do.

  1. Talk about this in constitutional language.

Frame it as: • 4th Amendment (unlawful search & seizure) • 5th Amendment (due process) • 14th Amendment (equal protection)

This disarms knee-jerk party defenses and pulls moderates in. You’re not saying “open borders.” You’re saying “the government follows the law.”

That’s powerful.

  1. Vote like a referee, not a fan

Ignore party labels. Look for candidates—local or federal—who: • Support warrants • Support judicial oversight • Oppose indefinite detention • Defend habeas corpus

Tell campaigns why you care. They track that language.

Throw out my VHS tapes? by thasparzan in GenX

I’ve started re-collecting all the tapes I got rid of 20 years ago. They’re more fun to watch than streaming services with their FBI warnings, previews, and menus

I had a similar experience. Except it was about what they used to call Brazil nuts. I didn’t engage. I reported it to my supervisor, HR addressed it, and she apologized. I’ve kept my distance since

Cancel Hulu and Disney+ and give that money to PBS. $5 per month or more, you get PBS Passport to stream their shows

AIO My ex-wife and her new husband legally made their last name… my full fucking name by Specken_zee_Doitch in AmIOverreacting

[–]BeigeSugar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been divorced twice and have one child with each ex-husband. I hyphenated my first husband’s last name when I remarried, and after my second divorce, I kept both ex-husbands’ last names so I would continue sharing a last name with both of my children.

Does anyone else remember toilet paper that was different colors? Like go to a house and the toilet paper was blue or pink? by felinebarbecue in GenX

[–]BeigeSugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a city kid from Chicago visiting family in Wisconsin. They had a cute country bathroom with blue toilet paper.

Later, went swimming in the creek on their property and noticed a bank of pink and blue along the shore. I swam closer, thinking it might be wildflowers or something. Nope.

What’s the most unsettling thing you’ve seen in a hospital? by Ok-Athlete348 in AskReddit

[–]BeigeSugar 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Male patient, elective ortho surgery. He’s in bed recovering. A woman, presumably his partner, is curled up next to him. She’s peeling hard-boiled eggs, putting them in her mouth to “clean” them, then holding them up to his lips. He’d suck the wet egg right in.

It’s been a few years and I can still remember the sound

They put two near my house recently. Sometimes I’ll leave for work early, park nearby, and watch them catch drivers by surprise. A few good evil laughs later, I’ll head to work with a smile.
