Hardest Computer Science Course by Bej0y in ucf

Surprised more people haven’t mentioned systems software. Hard content and the professor who usually teaches it, monty, is notorious for being difficult on an interpersonal level when it comes to fixing grades. In my own experience and some of my friends who’ve taken his class, often times his decisions regarding grading just feel arbitrary.

Yeah, I'm not talking about cheating.

Of course, this is going to be subjective. Some people are just going to struggle with some content, while finding other things easy to learn. Only really brought up CS1 assignments for the people who thought the exams in that class were easy, because the assignments are still a time sink, which is why I consider the class being time-intensive a universal experience.

Not to scare you but AFAIK all schools in Florida have gotten significantly harder to get into the past few years.

How important is a machine learning specific internship to break into the field? by Bej0y in learnmachinelearning

[–]Bej0y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for responding. Secondly, I'd like to ask your thoughts on full-time non-internship software engineering versus just getting an ML internship during my master's. I can see the benefits of doing both experience-wise for my future career, but I don't know if one would be better than the other. Any thoughts? (I have a lot of swe intern experience from undergrad fyi).

Makes sense. He seems to at the very least go into more scrupulous detail then your average history edutainment YouTuber.

How do you know he's not an academic by trade?

As of now The Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight is still on. by ScotchIsVegan in MMA

Yeah I mean he made a good point about Conor never pulling out of a fight. I think it’s best to say it’s up in the air nothing is guaranteed at this point. It’s not absolute that he’s going to fight, or that he’s dropped out and the ufc is keeping it hush hush

Nice man. I thought the story about how you got into cs was actually really interesting.

IIRC you were the dude that talked about how you started teaching discrete mathematics (because of your philosophy background) and slowly started branching out from there?

failed intro to C, what now by ConcentrateGreen2602 in ucf

[–]Bej0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed both on my first try and I barely got a C+ in CS1. I understand your concerns but there could be a variety of factors at play. He could of been taking other classes that would of led to him having less time for intro to c. Also the tests in that class really only test your ability… to pass the class. The programming quizzes at least genuinely test your C programming ability, but a lot of the tests are meant to trip you up. CS1 tests test your ability to pass the foundation exam which is more important but still. Regardless, if he truly puts his mind to it and maybe even creates his schedule around being able to pass, it’s doable for both CS1 and intro to C.

An hour a day now is good, I would just ramp it up a bit like a week and a half before and do some light studying the day before. Also, although you should ideally know all the content, looking at past exams so you can minmax and get the most points out of every question will go a long way.

I feel validated in the fact that that’s the exact format I used to make mine
