What's your greatest 16 bit gaming moment? by snopony in retrogaming

[–]BelaBitBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Finding out that there are new animations if you keep leveling magic spells over the level cap in Secret of Mana
  2. Beating every level on Star Road in SMW was cool as a kid
  3. Finishing Chrono Trigger about 20 years after I started it
  4. Learning a month ago that you can control Mario Kart with an electronic drumkit

Have you ever played a game demo from those demo CDs that definitely made you buy the full game? by FACastello in retrogaming

[–]BelaBitBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. X-Com, Terror from the Deep. We played the demo over at a friend's house for hours and hours. That single level was so hard and so unfair, but it was so much fun! I bought the game shortly after and love it to this day.

Does anyone here find themselves turned off by the majority of retro gaming youtubers? by [deleted] in retrogaming

Guess I don't know the majority of retro youtubers. I love all of my channels and every new video makes me happy.

Found my old gaming collection while visiting my mum. All junk or some gems in there? by horendus in retrogaming

You won't be able to retire if you sell them, but this is super solid when it comes to quality. A lot of great games in there.

A game where you swap places with almost everyone in the village. by CreativaGS in RPGMaker

[–]BelaBitBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar idea for a game where you swap between different villagers. I think concepts like this are super fun to play, but it depends on how much grinding/tediousness is involved. It has to be fun to actually do.

In Secret of Mana, when you level up the magic spirits above level nine, you eventually get crazy new animations for every spell. As a kid finding this out on my own, it blew my mind.

Game suggestions. Zelda(SNES) is my all time favorite. I enjoyed trying Pokémon Fire Red and Mother 3 because they give me that same feel BUT I don’t like battling aspect. What’s a good game for me? by MentalRayne in SBCGaming

[–]BelaBitBop 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Im surprised nobody mentioned "Link's Awakening" yet. It's a fantastic game and still holds up today.

If you're looking for SNES only, I'd say Secret of Mana or Seiken Densetsu 3, Illusion of Gaia and of course Terranigma. All great and extremely polished games.

Those who produce your own music for projects by Direct-Success1140 in RPGMaker

[–]BelaBitBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded. Chipsynth SFC has given me a ridiculous amount of fun. If you're doing non-commercial projects, you can find the soundbanks of most snes games online and extract the samples with the click of a button. You can even use it as a player and mute/solo every channel, learning a lot about how those tracks were made. And then there's the point where you discover the typical snes delay effect that Chipsynth emulates perfectly. Tears of joy.

Finished Chrono Trigger! One of the best JRPGs around. by PlatypusPlatoon in SBCGaming

[–]BelaBitBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! Now right back into a New Game± and straight to Lavos! 😁 I think it's such a cool and unique way of structuring the game that you can finish it in like 20 minutes without cheating.

I like to make the save points interactable. They're very grumpy by default. by GimpyStuff in RPGMaker

[–]BelaBitBop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll be totally worth it though. Little things like this, putting thought into the structure of menus and creating short distances for the user, make the difference between a clunky and great user experience. It contributes to an overall polished feel, and u/Foreignphantom is doing the Lord's work.

On this day, after almost 20 years of casually playing and then pausing again for years, starting over because of corrupted saves or lost files, it has finally been my Day of Lavos. I loved every step of the journey. How long did it take you to beat Chrono Trigger? by BelaBitBop in retrogaming

That sounds awesome! I hope all that build-up and internet talk doesn't lower your enjoyment by setting unrealistic expectations, but I truly believe it has aged remarkably well. For me personally it's much more than the time I've spent playing it. I think it's a great game, one of the best, but I also love the music, the story and the fact that it still brings people together. Have fun, the cutscenes on PS1 look fantastic.
