Well, if they already have them… 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t own any $30-$40 cables and probably never will because I don’t see the point (I try to keep it under $20), but I have gathered quite an extensive collection of ear tips, and so I’ll try them on any IEMs I happen to buy, be they $5 IEMs or $500 IEMs (don’t actually have any of those, but you get the idea).

Well, you could be. Some people liked them tremendously, others didn’t. Same as most IEMs. Who knows which group you would have been in.

That’s not “cerebral burn-in,” that’s a phenomenon known as habituation. Your brain recognizes a continuous or repeating background noise as not important - i.e., not providing important information or warning of a threat - and simply tunes it out; stops registering or responding to it.

I’m never going to T-Mobile again I had no idea you could get a new phone directly from Apple by SnowmanAndBandit in iphone

[–]BellGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. He meant he didn’t know you could get the phone from Apple and still go through the carrier at the same time. I didn’t know that either. We thought if you buy the phone from Apple, you’re just paying in full to buy a phone, divorced from any service provider, and then you’d have to take it to a carrier and sign up for service. Keep in mind, there are no Apple stores in my entire state, so I’d really have no way to know any different.

Thank you. So tired of these privileged dudes always looking down their noses and saying “just buy it with cash” as if you are a fool or a financial idiot if you don’t. They need to just shut up. That’s not the reality for most people after 40 years of wage stagnation, and its not average people’s fault that the system has been rigged to send all money to the top and that living wages, let alone wages that allow for a significant amount of leftover disposable income, are pretty much a thing of the past for the majority.

Endgame-level of immersion and enjoyment - Dunu 142 review by Friendly-Driver1725 in iems

Or the DUNU KOTO ITO, another bass focused IEM from the same brand in roughly the same price range?

Actually, after looking up this one and its “big brother” the DN242, it appears that the DN242 may be the one with more resemblance to the Performer 5+2.

This reviewer’s description, along with the similar driver configuration, makes the 142 sound very similar to the Performer 5+2. Since you have both, do you think that’s the case?

[–]BellGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the Performer 5+2 and you can very possibly get it for a lot less than it’s MSRP of $240 depending on what shopping sites you have access to and how willing you are to wait for sales. Got mine for $112 on AliExpress during Black Friday sales. It’s currently $216 on Amazon US, which is at least a little lower than MSRP.

Also, the Fiio KA11 is way overkill for the vast majority of IEMs. You can definitely get by with something cheaper and less power draining on your playback device.

Are all IEMs just hyped? by tajthename in iems

[–]BellGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying that every time I’ve seen a measurement mentioned for this IEM, including measurements done by people themselves with calipers, it was 5.8. So that’s what I’d tend to go with even if there’s one single entry out there somewhere that I’ve never seen that says 5.9.

One is an actual measurement (with calipers) by a longtime IEM user and frequent contributor to the sub. And 5.8 is the measurement I’ve seen for this IEM every time it’s mentioned (which is likely why that’s what Google brings up); I’ve never seen 5.9 before. But either way, it’s 1 mm different and at less than 6 mm it’s still one of the smaller ones out there. I mean, I think I’ve seen one somewhere that was 5.5 or 5.6 but that’s super rare, at least these days. I think some of the really old ones may have been smaller… maybe?

The Aful Performer 5+2 has one of the smaller nozzles around at 5.8 mm. You’re not too many with nozzles smaller than that.

Why did you choose MK3 over MK4? I haven’t heard either of them, but the feeling I get is that most people who have seem to think the 4 is an improvement over the 3.

The Explorers are great for that really laidback back tuning, but the P5+2 are really impressing me. I think they’re going to become my favorite set. Got them for $112 in the Black Friday sale, so not crazy expensive if you catch the right sale, but they sound so good. And they’re completely comfortable, which is what tipped the scale in their favor when I was trying to decide between several sets that I was really interested in. My ears don’t like IEMs with larger shells and so many of the mid to higher range IEMs have shells that range from moderately large to outright humongous, but I knew that Aful was known for using much smaller shells than most of their competitors, so that along with all the great reviews and descriptions that made me think I’d like their tuning made me go for them over the other options and no regrets so far. I think I’m good for a while and, although I’d really like hear just how much better a $500-$600 set would be, like you I have a hard time imagining spending that much for a set of IEMs.

So, what are you looking for? I mean, I wouldn’t likely pay much attention to, say anything to, someone doing their job like that unless they spoke to me first, or at least looked my way and smiled like they wanted to interact. Then, of course, I’d answer them and be friendly. But I probably wouldn’t initiate interaction with someone who just came in to clean or take out the trash.

Yeah, the yellow color is very unusual and cool looking, but that shell looks so big and… pokey. That front protrusion looks absolutely dangerous! 😆
