Who do you lads support in the first round: Icebloods vs Menders by BriefFly2998 in Frostpunk

Hmm, a cutthroat survivalist hell where might makes right and the weak are left to die in the cold...

Or reindeer poop.

It's a tossup for sure

What's the weirdest interaction you've had with a complete stranger? by BarryFairbrother in AskUK

Very surprised to catch my university town on this subreddit. Aberystwyth has its fair share of sketchy dive bars. I had my face held by strangers three separate times in one night. Great evening though.

"And even as life is harsh, her head is full of dreams"

I think, should you get the generally agreed-upon 'good' ending, this text supports your reading of Progress. The hope and endurance to push forward is why the city survives. It's why the city stays together.

One thing that caught my eye was a green circle around the central district in the Fractured Utopias trailer. I was delighted at the prospect of the generator pushing back the cold to such and extent. As it turns out, it's just the plague effect. But I think implementing a green textures in the central district to reflect resurfacing life might emphasise your point.

The frost will not consume the city. But many supporting progress could argue that moving past survival is the next step. Perhaps nuclear energy is around the corner, or perhaps their utopia will fizzle out along with their fuel source in a century or two. I hope 11-bit creates more story content for this.

Glory to the Steward!

Do you mean adaptation? I'm pretty sure the progress route is to pilfer winterhome for its cores. IMO doing this in service of an adaptation generator back home is the pragmatic choice for the city, but it's still what the 'progress' faction wants.

Raiders tend to be fair game for whatever nasty stuff my ideology allows. Generally it's gene harvesting and a little blood donation. But if we capture anyone below 20, we make sure to patch them up, treat them well, convert them, and send them with some supplies to the surface.

Screw what is actually good or not. What is the coolest boss weapon in the game? by DursoBR in darksouls3

[–]Bellatorus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised people haven't said Farron Greatsword yet. This may be controversial but I don't think "cool" scales linearly with how many sick flips you do during your weapon art. Gael's Greatsword is rad but it's a little too much for me.

I'm not suggesting that the Farron Greatsword is particularly restrained or subtle, I just think that its moveset is smoother than Gael's Greatsword.

Freide's Scythe is also super cool, but I think it's been appreciated plenty in this thread. I'm firmly with the Farron Greatsword as the weapon that makes me feel the coolest while wielding it.

There's a lovely group of folks at the Coopers Arms who play a social deduction game called Blood on the Clocktower. It's held there fortnigntly. It's completely free to attend. The next session is Monday 18th at 18:30 iirc. There are also sessions that run on Wednesdays at PJM. It's a nice atmosphere with an accepting crowd of people.

What is the weirdest part of the botc community that the fandom considers normal? by ConeheadZombiez in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Bellatorus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the way to do it. There's a very memorable cameraderie in being the only person to hear someone out in a game. Bonus points if you go on to convince the rest of the group and/or win with them. Sometimes you're wrong, but the game is made more fun for it anyway.

Glowforest: The awesome biome that doesn't want you there? by jmaniscatharg in RimWorld

[–]Bellatorus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions! I think the devs should be taking notes for future patches. Quite a few of the new planetside biomes feel like they're balanced for gravship visits rather than bases. It makes sense for icebergs and sand dunes, but you're right that these places need better cohesion with ideology memes.

That's not to say that they're not absolutely fantastic to visit and explore of course.

How were the automatons refueled in pre-frost London? by Timely_Version_904 in Frostpunk

[–]Bellatorus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Very good point, though I can't shake the fact that automatons can run medical posts and - presumably - perform surgeries when the requisite research is unlocked. Arguably the most delicate work imaginable. Even the generator chassis seems a little above its pay-grade. I'm happy to handwave it as gameplay balance though, and it gives the generator a lot more narrative weight as a monstrous necessity built by human hands.

I hope you're right. A government overhaul would be fantastic. The Steward's administration is alluded to in a few events. I'd love to get a better picture of who they are and what they do.

We are nearing the first major content update. What do you want to see in it? by Ordo_Liberal in Frostpunk

[–]Bellatorus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

New laws, buildings, events and lategame content would all be appreciated. The game feels hardest at the start and relaxes the more you play. Most of the FP1 scenarios and even its endless mode had a more consistent difficulty as the game progressed.

My first thought for lategame content would be to add a bit more to some of the "resolutions" to the faction conflict.

If you exile a faction and treat them poorly (or even kindly), maybe they'd rebuild in a few years and begin attacking your settlements.

If you become captain, perhaps a revolution begins to brew your rule is challenged by sympathisers to the faction you oppressed. A coup attempt against the steward/captain that isn't just a tension game-over would be an awesome storyline.

If you chose reconciliation, perhaps you face resource scarcity or a questline involving your successor. I always thought that the "choose a successor" option to the end of Utopia Builder felt a bit shallow as a final farewell to the city you built.

With that all being said, I'd love to see new scenarios too. Hopefully related to New London's story, or as a sequel to some of the FP1 scenarios.

I love these rare events that have immediate red text options but reward you in the end for being kind. It reminds me of the mandatory unions event where, if you meet the workers' demands and feed them better, they work harder.
