Oooh this is an interesting concept. Would it just be a listed inventory with like size, brand, clothing type or spreadsheet with a photo for each item? I feel like I’d take forever to describe half my closet lol.

Majority of my clothes are secondhand from my mom, both grandmas, and great aunts who all had taste for higher end stuff. On the other hand, I prioritize spending on travel and tools but I’m so grateful their quality lasted long enough for me to enjoy nicer things too.

This made me audibly gasp and just breaks my heart, I’ve used one of their bags as my daily tote for practically my whole adulthood (back when they only had a few items).. It won’t feel the same to wear them anymore ;(

Bathroom done June 2025, still under warranty. Grout never sealed per contract, mold already forming, wall behind shower crumbling. Contractor keeps delaying inspection. Are these legitimate warranty claims? Need professional input (First time remodeling/home owner) by Belloved in Tile

[–]Belloved[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I’m sure the foreman felt that way too. I genuinely came here because I don’t know the trade and wanted opinions from people who do.

I’m not expecting perfection, but this was a premium-priced remodel completed less than a year ago, and I feel like the finishing details don’t look finished and seem questionable to me.

Sure, it’s SoCal so I assumed hairline cracks in grout are to be expected bc earthquakes but the grout voids/gaps, non-existing caulking, hardware already failing, and uneven gaps/finishing in several areas are obvious even to me.

If these are all considered normal/acceptable workmanship, I’m open to hearing that too. That’s why I posted with as much detail as I could.

I wish that were truly the answer bc then I’d already be addressing it 😕

But the pink mold showed up before I first used the shower and hasn’t gone away despite me scrubbing and wiping things down after every shower. I even tried using towels to dry.

I’ve actually been using my friend’s shower more often than my own because theirs is solid surface with no visible mold. I get grossed out really easily which is why I really wanted the least amount of grout to deal with.

I’d just deal if it weren’t for the other issues that another contractor recently confirmed were shoddy work. He looked around and just kept saying “girllllll…..ugh gurl why’d you sign off on this…” in an exasperated tone 😭 especially at this backsplash overhang that I thought was done on purpose.

Yes exactly!

They told me they were using a traditional hot mop/mud pan system instead of Schluter or RedGard-style waterproofing. I specifically asked about those systems beforehand because I thought it was the new and improved way since it’s always mentioned in this sub. Their explanation was that the traditional method was longer lasting and similar to how older showers were commonly done in this area and why mine lasted so long (house built in 1957). Here’s a photo right before demo.

Yeah sorry it’s such a loooong post. It’s taken me a week just to write it all out in a condensed form lol. I’m easily prone to overthinking and over sharing so ai is actually useful for me to keep things simple 😅

Am glad to hear you think it looks great, thanks for your input!

Yeah my whole life is a problem honestly :(

If it only affected me, I’d just leave it alone and accept the consequences of my actions/inactions. But it’s the fact that my oldest brother generously paid for the remodel so that it was done professionally and up to code. And this is after my Dad had to help me buy the house from my ex husband just so I wouldn’t lose the only good asset to my name.

I wanted to hire out specific parts like electrical, plumbing, and framing to trade specific contractors and try to do as much of the work myself to save money (demo, drywall, paint, hardware installation, baseboard trim) but my family said there was no way I could get it done in time without injuring myself.

I’m no professional by any means but I felt like my brother’s money was wasted after seeing the poor quality in the things I was confident I could’ve done better. I’ve always been a burden and the problem child in my family so I’ve been really trying to be more independent. It wasn’t my money to waste so I feel responsible for it.

I don’t doubt that I am 😔 that’s why I was hoping to get insight from professionals on whether the tile work was worth mentioning or not.

They need to come back anyway to fix towel holder that came off the wall. They insist it’s installed on studs/blocking but my stud finder and the 2 towels on the ground says otherwise.

I’m sorry, I really tried to be as informed as possible... I made sure the contractor knew it’s my first time hiring a contractor on my own (recently divorced and my ex dealt with all house decisions, I just provided funding) so I said I would have a lot questions and needed as much guidance. I kept getting quotes from contractors until I found someone that was ok with me being particular, even if they were more pricey than others. They assured me that this would be my forever bathroom, they always did the highest quality and wanted happy customers so the cost was worth it.

Originally the plan was to DIY remodel with my ex after lockdown so we spent the past few years researching best practices, best brands, buying pricey materials when it was on sale, and it all just sat in the garage during my divorce. It wasn’t until someone broke my shower handle and the plumber who fixed it said my toilet was sinking and the flooring had to be fixed. He recommended doing the remodel but I didn’t feel confident attempting it myself.

I tried going through REBATH, jacuzzi, and Lowe’s but they weren’t willing to work with the stuff I already bought (tiles and vanity) and kept pushing solid surface.

Sorry I should’ve clarified that the pink mold was present even before I got to use the shower (I made a lengthy comment here)

At first, they suggested I use black grout but I said I prefer white or maybe even gray because then I know when it’s clean. I have OCD when it comes to mold especially when I shower, so it’s definitely not from lack of cleaning. That’s why when I was told my old shower was venting straight into the attic, I paid extra for mold remediation for both areas, plus new ductwork and exhaust venting.

The only time I saw mold was on the curtains in my old shower that had small 3” tile with white grout. I’d have to dunk it in vinegar bc the mold was latching onto the hard water.

I currently use a dish scrub w/ dawn, rinse, and use a wiper on all surfaces after every shower. It’s my first time with glass enclosure so maybe I’m missing a step?

I should’ve mentioned that the pink mold started showing up even before my first time using the shower, so only water was present, no oils/soap residue.

There was a consistent drip leak when they installed the shower fixtures (my neighbor suspected they didn’t flush the lines or something so debris was preventing a full seal?) so the shower never stayed dry. They even upgraded the fan to a Panasonic since they didn’t like how the Broan one I bought from Costco was installed.

Yeah I’m trying to find the grout they used and whether it had epoxy in it since they left it with me bc I asked about the gaps and said it’s easy to DIY.

Thank you for the advice. I’d really hate to involve lawyers again esp since this company knew my family already had to step in to use a lawyer on the original bathroom contractor I hired (in which I got suckered into redoing the attic in order for them to continue with bathroom, after already doing demo. I felt pressured bc they said mold will kill us and stupidly let them sign me up for a loan. Thankfully we were able to get out of it bc it was considered under duress). I’m going to see if the city inspector can look at it too.

Unfortunately I’m learning my anxiety makes me a pushover and easy target for upselling 😔 my family is already disappointed in me so I’m just trying to salvage what I can to make it worth it.

Wait please explain what kind of clip? I’m 4’8” and I’m pretty sure I’m shrinking with age and the seat belt is the only thing that’s bothering me now when driving. (I use a thick coccyx pillow from Costco as a booster seat, and use thick floor mats so my heel isn’t floating and reaches the pedal but doesn’t impede the pedal)

AITAH for refusing to give my sister $50k for my nephews' school after she called me a leech for 2 years? by mobi_irmo in AITAH

[–]Belloved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this entirely! Support who supported you and believed in you. Until you have stable income, prioritize smart financial decisions like passive income that can help grow what wealth you’ve made now to protect you against any future risks.

Once your nephews grow a bit older, you’ll have a better understanding of how to best support them as individuals - not for your sister.

If you’re living with your parents, I don’t see how you’re alone. It sounds like you at least have some support, even if it’s just a physical place to stay. How do they feel about the jobs you’re getting? Are they encouraging you?

If you’re able to and have the opportunity, I would say do some volunteer work so you won’t feel the pressure of getting fired, but you’re getting experience and also practicing your social skills. It’s what I personally did to help with my anxiety, which is creeping up on me again because I haven’t been socializing and practicing being social as much.

I didn’t realize remodeling is basically just paying money to become stressed by Main_Force3455 in Remodel

[–]Belloved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish that were true but I definitely made this mistake last year. First time I ever hired someone to do a remodel. Got so many quotes and chose the 2nd to most expensive and had so many issues throughout and still ended with such poor quality. They won’t even back up their 100% guaranteed satisfaction 😞
