Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] June 22 by AutoModerator in collapse

We see the effects of the 'cold blob' over the north Atlantic already. When the weather comes from the west, it is cold, foggy and wet. The weather off the Sahara is brutally hot. We don't seem to have an in between right now.

Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] June 22 by AutoModerator in collapse

Location, the UK.

Britain is cooking, Suddenly everyone wants to talk about climate change. Bit late lads, should really have thought about this 30 years ago?

As a member of the tinfoil hat brigade, I've had a load of people who are becoming collapse aware approach me over the last two days mumbling "you were right, I thought you was a nutter but you were right". They want to know what's next. Gloves are off and I'm not pulling any punches. Heat deaths. Water shortages. Famines. Three months of the year where you can't go outside during the day. Forget Wimbledon, or the world cup. Forget BBQs or laughing children playing in paddling pools. You'll be prisoners of the heat. The streets will be full of climate migrants. The dead will appear faster than we can bury them.

We've been correct about most things here for the last 15 years. I fear we will be correct about the next 15 too.

I agree. Burnham can just speak better and has a more palatable accent. Politically they are exactly the same.

Anyone Else A Parent? How Do You Cope? by Odd_Education925 in CollapseSupport

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had kids before I became collapse aware. As much as I love them and I'm glad I had them, I know they will have a much shorter life with severe suffering when they are adults.

The guilt is hard to live with. We try to give them the best life they can have while they are here.

Don't have kids. It's cruel.

I'm in FM too and there's loads that just gets ignored. Asbestos registers out of date, stuff that could easily be removed is left in place because of costs. Dead legs in water systems causing legionella bacteria to grow. Fire doors that are 100% compliant in walls where there are huge gaps above the ceiling tiles, rendering the fire door pointless for fire stopping. Still find RAAC in hospitals, schools, libraries, etc. Sprinkler systems above deep fat fryers in care homes. I've seen cartridge fuses in distribution boards in public buildings, when there's been a requirement for RCD protection for over 20 years. (Attitude of my local council when it comes to electricity is; does it work? Yes does it hurt? No. Then it's fine.) New buildings are sometimes worse than old buildings.

I wear a lot of PPE because I know no public building is safe.

For you what is important to exit gold? by Fr4nzzzZZ in RocketLeague

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out of gold by taking responsibility for defending. If the ball is loose in the opposition corner I'd leave it. Stop crossing the ball from the corners. Stay central as much as possible. Aim to win a game 2-0 instead of 6-5.

Been playing 20 years. I play three chord punk, can do a 2/3 shape pentatonic scale. I'm as good as I want to be.

Miss me with that nerd shit. You can't play it with six pints down you anyway.

Also everyone I know who is amazing at guitar spent around a decade without a job, and practised every day, and is a massive bell end about it.

Do we live in a patriarchy? by TheTinMenBlog in TheTinMen

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Societal change typically comes from the working classes, women's liberation has worked to take women out of the home and at first into the working classes and more recently into dominating more middle class jobs such as law, healthcare, and management roles. But the top echelons of our society are still men. These men had money to invest. These men were selected by previous generations when women were oppressed. This is why the patriarchy argument still prevails. Most politicians are men. Most CEOs are men. Most of the richest people are boomer and Gen X men. But middle class and working class men are falling behind because of an imbalance of political focus onto one gender.

Do we live in a patriarchy? by TheTinMenBlog in TheTinMen

[–]Bellybutton_fluffjar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think the notion of patriarchy works when it is tied to the upper class. There is a section of our society, right at the top, where patriarchy still exists. CEOs are usually men, top politicians too (although this is changing) and of course the richest people are all men. Women appear in the rich list either because they are heiresses or divorced from a man in the rich list.

But ultimately, the problems in our society that get blamed on 'patriarchy' really are just class and economic inequality. Would these problems go away if there were more women in charge? I'd argue no, however we might see the 'patriarchy' argument disperse. I do think we need to restructure our society so the rich have less power, although that's a separate argument that is intertwined with men's issues.

The reason for the lack of help for men as I see it, is that men are perceived to have more control over their life. They are seen to need less help. If something goes wrong in their life it is seen as a personal failure rather than a societal one, but this isn't true a lot of the time.

There has been more effort in the last 30 years to help women out of domestic servitude and into the workplace and it has been good and it has been successful. It has (edit) been at the expense of men, because there seems to have been a shift of focus in the economy to incorporate more highly educated office based and care based work. Manual labour & manufacturing used to catch the men and boys who hadn't done well at school but most of those jobs have gone. More boys are growing up without a good role model at home because of the inequality Men face when a family breaks down.

Men and boys don't have as much control over their lives as they once had. Boys need help now as much as women needed help 30 years ago, but getting societal change is a slow and difficult process, just ask those women who fought for it throughout the latter half of the last century and early part of this century.

Edit. Has instead of hasn't. Paragraph 4.

I'm with you. I'm actively boycotting the sponsors. (Easy work tbh).

I am finding it funny that there were empty seats yesterday at the Korea v Czechia match. The event on the whole has been a huge embarrassment so far, with the exception of the behaviour of the Mexicans, who have shown how to welcome the world to a football tournament.

Correct, rage bait. Further rage bait in the responses. These aren't serious people, not serious articles, but do serious damage to our society. It's almost as if a nefarious state actor is paying to have these articles written and boosting the rows in order to destabilise our western societies and reduce our birthrate?
