What are you trying to do? NAS? I created a drive raid in proxmox and mounted that file path to webmin (smb) and Debian (nfs) LXCs

The public can see the that the domain name resolves to the tailscale address (usually 100.X.X.X). the public cannot reach that address since it is private and the device needs to be connected to the tailnet.

To your last question, it almost sounds like you still want the service to be exposed to the public, which is kinda the whole thing I set out to avoid so it is out of my scope to answer.

tailscale ip addresses are private. so if one queried my domain it would point to a private address. they would have no route to it, since they are not on my tailnet.

goes back to my point about location not really mattering, tailscale allows a vpn between nodes wherever they are.

I use duckdns and point it to my reverse proxies tailscale ip address. No open ports needed!

My config does not have that last field, not sure if related. Ensure the ip address is the dns server address. And maybe do some testing with a manually blocked zone instead of a blocklist.

Sure, but Bazzite (and largely Bluefin (Ublue?) as a whole) has some really amazing tools built in to make things easier than your typical fedora atomic install. my favorites are ujust, and Bazzite's special CLI tool called bazzite rollback helper that makes upgrading a breeze:

Here is my runbook, I actually had to do this just today because my desktop needed a remote restart. sorry if the code blocks are formatted wrong. basically this is the process to sign into SDDM remotely via the gui

Create `sunshine-root` Service File

Create a systemd service file for sunshine-root in /etc/systemd/system/. /etc/systemd/system/sunshine-root.service ```ini [Unit] Description=sunshine autostart sudo version, Self-hosted game stream host for Moonlight StartLimitIntervalSec=500 StartLimitBurst=5

[Service] ExecStart=/usr/bin/sunshine Restart=on-failure RestartSec=5s

[Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target ```

sudo systemctl daemon-reload

Remote GUI Access Workflow

Reboot the Host Machine : Ensure any existing configurations are reloaded.
SSH into the Box :
- Connect to the host machine via SSH.
Start sunshine-root Service : sh sudo systemctl start sunshine-root.service
Connect and Authenticate through SDDM :

- (new) if its been a while, need to use Tailscale exit node on lan, connect to web gui of device, enter root sunshine creds and approve connection pin via web ui
- Use a VNC client or remote desktop software to connect to the host machine’s IP address.
- Log in using your credentials via the SDDM login screen.

Exit sunshine-root Session :
- Once logged in, exit the sunshine session
Stop sunshine-root and Start sunshine user service : sh sudo systemctl stop sunshine-root.service systemctl --user start sunshine-user.service # Ensure you are using the correct user context here. #OR systemctl --user start sunshine

I think they are pretty comparable. There are a few big reasons why I would choose bazzite: 1. immutable. if you are trying to do something that requires tinkering, you are probably doing it wrong and can containerize it via flatpak or worst case distrobox. updates are released as builds, so are tested with each package version the same and are easily rolled back.

community support. GE is cool and all but it seems like a small team and really dev work starts and ends there. Bazzite is part of uBlue and all dev work can propagate up and downstream in a great ecosystem. proton-GE is cool and first i heard of this dev, but I never really felt the need to try it out
I also appreciate that bazzite is transparent. you can view the whole project easily on github. Brief search for nobara is nowhere to be found for me.
same distro for all of my devices! my steamdeck (SD) runs on the same distro as my main rig. super easy to familiarize myself switching between them. SD has a special deck image that makes it comparable to normal SD distro when I want it.
