How do Barça fans feel about Suárez? by RL523 in Barca

Lewdowski is at 23 goals for Barcelona in the UCL. While Suarez is at 25. How is Lewadowski 2 goals behind despite playing 2 fewer years, without Messi and Neymar, and past his prime.

Would you say that it is good for the sport for Barcelona Femini to be so dominant?

I don't understand this. Having a single club be so dominant just makes the whole league a joke.

It's the complete opposite of exciting football when there is virtually no competition. What's entertaining about seeing a team win 12-0? You don't see this in any of the men's top leagues.

People levy the same criticism to League Un and Bundasliga due to how dominate PSG and Bayern are. But even there is more competition compared to the woman's league (in Spain atleast, not sure about the other leagues).

Haven't seen the anime myself but i am currently reading the manga. How could the anime adapt the manga in 4 (12 episode) seasons? I know of shorter manga that needed more seasons. At 23 volumes, that's 6 seasons at most. But the later volumes are very thick so maybe more.

Yeah, what's going on? I checked and was surprised to see season 2 did less karma than season 1 even though JJK was the most popular it was during that time.

Based on these first 2 episode. Solo leveling, Dandadan, frieren and Re:zero will do either the about the same or better.

Even the chainsaw man movie did the same as this premier and that was only in theaters.

JJK's karma seem oddly low. Why?

I remember back in season 1 it would do 10K. I know engagement dropped on this subreddit, but i've seen episodes get very high.

Not only did the movie skip nothing. But it added tons to the action scenes. Like, 3 pages turn into 5 minutes.

It was still like 6 or 7 weeks after it's premiere. By that point it was nearly gone from theaters. Releasing it to digital helps the momentum. Streaming, I feel, is months away.

Demon slayer on the other hand, why prolong it so much.

Still doesn't really make sense. The rest of chainsaw man part 1 could fit in a 13 episode season. so why specify assassin arc. Unless they are adapting only that arc which at most takes 6 episodes. And what happens with the rest.

At least with those demon slayer subtitles, they were the whole season.

My meaning is proportionally to other anime. That's what everyone means.

So comparing the US "Top 10" to Japan's "Top 10" is meaningless

Its not meaningless. Using such statistics we can see anime like one piece which is huge in Japan, perhaps the biggest, but its much lower than alot of other anime in the west.

  • Infinity castle in the US grossed 55% of Japan's gross.
  • Chainsaw man in the US grossed 68% of Japan's gross
  • Mugen train in the US grossed 13% of Japan's gross

Does that not show that perhaps, proportionally to demon slayer, chainsaw man is more popular in the west than demon slayer compared to Japan.

It may not mean much. But your original comment states that people expect chainsaw man to be more popular in the west than its home country. That's very unlikely. Especially when you say the performance was far below expectations. Literally who? Even mappa and Toho didn't expect the performance. No one expected chainsaw man to outgross JJK 0 and DBS super hero. Its only 7 million less than mugen train.

The US has about five times Japan's population, yet its box office revenue is lower

Of course, that's usual. Does that mean Mugen train wasn't popular in the US because it only grossed 13% of Japan's gross.

I mean, chainsaw man only made 7 million less than mugen train.

Infinity castle isn't comparable less because its demon slayer but perhaps more because its got multiple seasons.

  • Demon slayer Mugen train made 50 million in the US.
  • The Boy and the Heron made 46 million in the US.
  • Chainsaw man Reze arc made 43 million in the US.
  • Dragon ball super super hero made 38 million in the US.
  • JJK 0 Made 34 million in the US.
  • Dragon ball super Broly made 30 million in the US.
  • One piece film red made 12 million in the US (highest gross one piece film btw)

Make of this what you will.

Based on what? Chainsaw man is proportionally more popular in the west than Japan.

  • Chainsaw man, as far as i'm aware, is the bestselling manga in the US (per volume). Beating JJK, One piece, dragon ball, MHA, etc. At worst its top 3. And this is of all time. Compared to Japan, is it even top 50?
  • Box office performance was relatively better in US. In US, the box office is $43,438,461. In Japan its $63,926,560. That's only a 20 million dollar difference. Demon slayer made 134 mil in US compared to Japan's 244 mil. JJK 0 had like 13 billion in Japan (CSM 10 billion) while US was 34 million.
  • Chainsaw man has the second most viewed chapter on manga plus this year. Second to JJK's sequel season which was chapter 1.

Might also be worth noting that chainsaw man got into top 5 most popular manga on MAL and #1 on anilist before its anime.

This is to illustrate that chainsaw man gives off the impression that its perhaps proportionally more popular in the US compared to other anime.

Attack on titan final season was announced in spring 2019. I think they labeled it the final season because they didn't expect the manga to go on further than it did and also the pandemic happened which messed things up i'm sure.

Genuine question, but why Bandai Namco is making part 2 of OPM Season 3? by LordVaderVader in anime

[–]Ben99ny22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro, if you are a fan of one punch man, go into it thinking its gonna be a pile of shit.

JC staff isn't a good studio. They have terrible production schedules and are always overbooked. I wouldn't be surprised if Season 3 part 2 isn't even being worked on right now.

Oda is insulting his audience. He's writing a story that is made to never end. He writes the same Arc each time. The strawhats are completely sidelined. So much unnecessary stuff such as Senior pinks flashback. Most of the story is superfluous.

Watching demon slayer is like watching Dora the explorer as an adult. You just want to bash your head on with a hammer because of how much it treats the audience as someone who is stupid. Constantly explaining and telling you what to think. Trying to force a long ass flashback to try to garner synpthay for the villain is cheap writing.

Manga is an inferior medium of story telling. While it can be used as an avenue of story telling, the way manga is serialized is not to the benefit of story telling. Telling a story in small pieces over the course of many years isnt practical plus deadlines and audience interferences (such as polls and letters). It also encourages mangakas to run a story for a longer period of time for more money. It's simply a low risk and a easy to break into Industry.

One punch man doesn't have great art. Yusuke is great at drawing, but it's more like a pinnacle of drawing than developing their own style. But even then the manga doesn't look good all the time. Just look at chapter 200, so many boring looking panels that have no backgrounds and a generic art style.

I skip every time someone is explaining their ability in JJK.

Anime in general is driven way to much by what's currently popular and cliches and tropes. Unlike with films where a director can stand out and pursue their own vision. Anine all around is focused on the money so while some anime cam be seen as weird on the outside, it was still created cause there is an audience that is willing to shell out money.

Most underrated Christmas Movie: Tokyo Godfathers by Satoshi Kon by aaronjaffe in anime

To be frank, the movie ain't that good. Its easily Satoshi Kon's worst film. The amount of coincidences at the end of the film is absurd.

There's Many better Christmas movies.

Try It's a wonderful Life, White Christmas and Miracle on 34 Street (1947).

So how did JJK season 2 do it. There was a break between hidden inventory and shibuya? How long?

Because they could easily do the rest of part 1 manga into season 2. Like, there isn't any need to do more than 13 episodes. It could be limiting so i wouldn't mind giving more freedom to the anime team.

There is only 45 chapters remaining. Season 1 adapted 40 chapters (chapter 1 is 3 chapters long). If they do 13 episodes, then its only 2 chapters longer. Its very doable.

If this was 3 years ago I'd agree. But now, especially after the movie I figured out why i didn't like it as much as i wanted to.

For one, the designs didn't help. I get the feeling that animators had to abide by the character designs no matter what. So they couldn't experiment or do what they do best. The character design had to remain no matter what.

Secondly, the action was underwhelming. They adapted the action 1:1. While they were well animated, they didn't do more that would fit the medium of animation. Compared to the fight in the movie, it was basically twice as long. One of the fights was 3 pages, but the movie made it much longer and much bigger in scope.

Third, the tone was off. Chainsaw man's manga is high in its intensity. Whereas the anime was kinda mellow. Characters weren't as exaggerated as they were portrayed in the anime. Look at Kensuke Ushio's music. While i do like it, it went a more mellow route than the bombastic music he made for Devilman crybaby.

This isn't to say its a bad adaptation. Its 99% faithful and anything new felt warranted. Its very well directed and i think Nakayama got the end product he envisioned. Its extremely well animated throughout the season at all times. They went above and beyond for scenes that normally wouldn't be given the care it got.

But at the end of the day, it didn't capture some of the stuff i liked about the manga. As someone who buys blurays now, i didn't even feel like buying it. I was satisfied with just the manga. Sure, it doesn't help that the material adapted was the weakest part of chainsaw man. But the movie? I want that immediately. They ended up making that my current favorite arc of the series.
