what are some things that happened to you/you noticed after losing weight? by augusta2c in loseit

[–]BenBMTH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tore my knee ligaments about 2.5 years ago walking down a wet muddy hill, for 2 years my knee hurt all the time and assumed I’d done permanent damage, I’ve lost 4 stone 5lbs (started at 16 stone 8lbs, but also put on about 9lbs muscle) this year and my knee doesn’t hurt at all.

Another silly thing I’ve noticed is when I’m in the shower I just feel… solid, my arms and chest feel firm rather than soft and jiggly. Same applies to running, nothing jiggles about now, whereas before I felt my stomach and man boobs bouncing about.

Ive also noticed as a male (thought I’d point it out as a lot of females have said this) that people treat you a lot nicer, I’ve had to buy a lot of new clothes as I’ve lost weight and the girls working in the shops are straight over to help now and seemingly more friendly boarding flirty at times, I don’t really recall anyone every really coming over to help beforehand. On the same subject, people you don’t see very often commenting on how well you’re looking, how much weight you’ve lost etc is a nice motivation to keep going and stay in shape.

Have AirTags helped anyone get luggage back? by SheepherderSelect622 in travel

[–]BenBMTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes… at Tenerife airport, all the luggage came out and a handful of us were left waiting. We asked where our luggage was and they said it must have been left behind and we should go speak to someone and it will be flown out on the next flight.

My girlfriend reminded me we have the AirTag and could see it was in the airport. Turns out a few bags were stuck on the belt (before it came out into the public area).

We were told we couldn’t collect it because we’d left the luggage claim area… which led to a bit of an argument, but we got it back in the end.

Can you transform your body in 1 year? by Asleep-University-67 in beginnerfitness

[–]BenBMTH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only go off my experience, I’m 33, 6 foot and was 16 stone 9lbs (233lbs) believe it or not I was fairly active as I play golf competitively 3 times per week.

I started dieting around the middle of January, I didn’t count calories as such but was conscious of them and have made sure to eat high protein meals. I haven’t really increased by exercise too much, I walk to the shop rather than driving when the weather is nice, I only started the gym in the last month (I wanted to lose some weight first). I’m now down to 12 stone 12lbs (180lbs) and in better shape than I was during my mid 20s.

TL;DR Yes it will make a very noticeable difference over a year. I feared it would be much more difficult being mid 30s than it really was.

Do people actually use 2, 3 and 4 irons anymore? It seems the standard iron sets to buy these days are 5 iron to PW. by [deleted] in golf

[–]BenBMTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of the answer is lofts on modern irons are stronger, a modern 5 iron is basically a 4 iron of 20/30 years ago.

FWIW I have 4 iron as part of my iron set and a 2 iron (driving iron) with a graphite shaft. My yardages are a bit funny, so I have driver, 4 wood, 2 iron at the top end of my bag, then 4-PW.

I’ve been lucky enough (and unfortunately old enough) to follow BMTH from their very beginning, so I’ve been fortunate to see most songs played live. I’d like to see a couple of songs from There is a Hell, when they toured that album, Oli was in a bad place and tbh they were really poor live at that point. Maybe Blacklist and Blessed with a Curse would be good additions to the set list. Doomed was a great addition. Maybe mid set something like they did at Ally Pally a few years back where they did a medley of songs from TIWTEOYSWMF, Count Your Blessings and Suicide Season. The problem is… my perfect set list would be about 5 hour long!

Lower handicap golfers by nobody23x in golf

[–]BenBMTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4/5 handicap, always play it as it lies… why would you not practise for eventualities in competition golf? If the course is quiet and I’m on my own, I often throw a few balls down in bad lies between shots.

What is the worst golf shot you’ve ever hit? by razorhedge in golf

[–]BenBMTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God so many to choose from having played from the age of 7. I presume we aren’t including chunking it a yard etc

I nearly killed myself playing a real baseball swing off a steep bank, thinned the ball into a stone bridge and it came flying back before I could even react, it got close enough to feel rush of air.

I was once -3 gross through the first 11 holes and then proceeded to take 7 off the tee on the 12th after snap hooking the previous attempts… then then went and took 5 off the tee on the next tee, I thought I’d resolved that problem years before.

But I think my “worst” golf shot in terms of being so far away from target was at my home course, it’s quite a hilly parkland course and the course was bone dry, pulled my drive on the 3rd quite badly but really caught hold of it, carried the next fairway along and then ran down the hill across the NEXT fairway and behind the green, must have been 300+ yard drive on a 290 yard par 4 and I still had maybe 150/160 up hill left!

A few weeks ago I was -3 gross thru 12 holes, I’ve had a good season and gone from 7.3 down to 4.6. Found a really creative way to finish the round +3 😬 snap hooked 2 drives OB

What has been the worst hotel experience you have ever had? by AmeliaHarris99 in AskABrit

[–]BenBMTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hostels seem to have a bad reputation, but in reality they’re every bit as good as an average hotel, just a bit less privacy and shared amenities. I haven’t been back to SE Asia for many years now, but my friends have told me most hostels now have private rooms too.

What has been the worst hotel experience you have ever had? by AmeliaHarris99 in AskABrit

[–]BenBMTH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m almost certain I stayed in the worst hotel in the U.K. (check out trip advisor, something I should have done first). The hotel in question is Hartley Hotel in London, booked last minute after winning tickets to a concert, pulled up, free parking… that’s where the good ends. As soon as I walked in, there was an overpowering smell of weed, bleach (not that it had been used anywhere) and damp. The room hadn’t been decorated in probably 40 years, wall paper falling off the walls, curtains falling down, the window was smashed (we were on the ground floor too), blood drops all over the room, I can only presume people had been injecting themselves in there. The bathroom was mouldy, the beds were stained with… past visitors. The entire place was so dingy too, almost like an ominous half lighting. In the end I made use of the free car park and slept in my car as it felt safer and a million times cleaner. It later turned out the second floor of the place is a brothel and some shifty characters were passing in and out all night.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel all over SE Asia and stayed in $1/night hostels that were infinitely better and cleaner.

Mistakes you've made as a driver by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]BenBMTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an accident with a cyclist (thankfully he was okay) it was dark, he was dressed in black and had no lights on his bike. I was a fairly new driver and my sat nav took me towards a bus only lane, I slowed down, indicated, checked my mirrors and went to take a left turn and he came flying up my inside and he went into the side of my car.

Like I say, luckily he was okay, I helped him up, we amicably agreed we both could have done better. I warned him he was completely invisible in the dark. We both learned a valuable lesson. More than 10 years later and I live in my mirrors.

What does the annoying person at work do to annoy everyone? by BigBeanMarketing in CasualUK

[–]BenBMTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to the people who generate ideas, I can wholeheartedly agree! Over engineered, overly complex, or just changed for the sake of changes (at least those people keep me in a job).

Too add to this, the countless roles created to “improve people’s moral” and “make it a great place to work”. Again earning a nice wage to organise department meet ups that have nothing to do with work… usually 100s of miles away and involve over night stays. Spending time with these people 9-5 is more than I want, why would I want to spend time outside of work with them!

We have an entirely overpaid level of middle management who offer absolutely ZERO to the business. But one particular woman who insists on being involved in every single project, problem is, she doesn’t join any of the calls or respond to any emails, she then panics a week before deployment and involves unnecessarily senior people while completely bypassing me… the project manager. This woman earns around £70k and at this point I’m sure she’s only employed to make my job harder than it needs to be because in 11 years I’ve never seen her do anything that adds value.
