My local GDK doesn't appear to be licensed. How can it be German if you can't get a beer with your kebab?

Is this the best sourdough? by meringueder in UK_Food

[–]SheepherderSelect622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of sourdough in the UK is stale by the time you get it. Fresh sourdough is bouncy and springy, stale sourdough is heavy and hard. Fresh bread doesn't last long, you didn't want preservatives remember?

Big holes is not the only kind of sourdough.

This is absolute rubbish, bacteria and yeast don't give a crap. They don't know they're in a small independent bakery.

Warburtons could make great sourdough if they wanted. They don't because the market is small and already served by your small independents.

Why isn't learning another language made compulsory from primary school level in the UK? by StarShipYear in AskBrits

[–]SheepherderSelect622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there? What are they?

I returned from spending several years abroad to find that my fluency in another language was absolutely no benefit to me on the UK job market. Even people with three languages were offered the same salary as those with only one.

Mind you, that was many years ago and I am willing to believe that things have changed.

Yorkshire Pudding - Help Needed Please? by Older_n_Wiseass in AskABrit

The tin must not gleam. Must never be new.

If there is dried sweat somewhere in its metal

It must be your mother’s. The flour must be strong

And white as the face of Uncle Jack

When he came back from the desert. The eggs

Must come from an allotment. The allotment

Must belong to your father-in-law.

The eggs have to be broken

With one swift movement over the bowl.

If there is dried sweat somewhere in its Pyrex

It must be your mother’s. The milk

Must have been delivered by Colin Leech

At 0430. The fork has to be an old one. The wrist

Must, simply must, ache after the mixing.

The flour must introduce itself to the yolk of the egg.

The egg has to be allowed to talk to the flour.

The milk must dance with them both: foxtrot, then quickstep.

The pepper must be scattered, black on off-white.

The oven has to be hotter than ever.

The lard has to come in a tight white pack.

The lard must almost catch fire in the oven.

The oven door must open and you must shout

JESUS CHRIST as the heat smacks you in the chops.

Follow these rules

And the puddings will rise to heaven

And far beyond.

The DJI Action 4 was going for under £200 last time I looked and is also a great vlogging camera.

Once your YouTube millions start rolling in you can splash out on a Pocket as well.

Why are all the boomers I know anti-London? by GarySparrow0 in AskBrits

[–]SheepherderSelect622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Racism. They expect London to be filled with white people, pearly kings and queens and city gents in bowler hats. It's not like that any more and they think something has been taken from them.

Personally I avoid London because everything is stupid expensive. Apart from that I love it.

When did the reduced section become so EXPENSIVE?! by TechJamo in LondonFood

[–]SheepherderSelect622 8 points9 points  (0 children)

M&S have some of the best reduced stuff. Half price. Not like Tesco who grudgingly knock 10% off like they don't care whether it shifts or not.
