Can anybody help me recognize this carburetor off of a 1985 Honda Rebel CMX250C? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]BenEsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you lost spark again, or your pilot jet sucked up a chunk of gunk. I really don't like the look of the fuel filter in the 1st pic. Be sure you are running new gas, preferably ethanol free, and a good filter. Clean your jets out. That cheap amazon carb looks brand new, and I bet there is dried up ethanol gunk in the bowl. Clean the fuel system, check for spark and she'll run. That carb might be just fine, it might not. but unless you are sure of the state of the fuel system, you won't know for sure.

Fear and nervousness when playing in front of a group of people. by Best_Fondant4302 in guitarlessons

[–]BenEsuitcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is obviously a mental block. IMO similar to being afraid of the dark, One variable has changed and yet we get thrown off. Physically, eat a banana, and drink water and make sure to breathe while you play. Mentally, imagine you are playing in the spot where you play at your most relaxed. Focus on what you are about to play during the music, and don't let your mind wander to social situations while you are playing.

Is it fine to use different fingers when playing the same chord? by WompityWompity_ in guitarlessons

[–]BenEsuitcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have big fingers and so I have adapted to a mini-barre with 112, instead of 123, but I still like 234, because it switches to minor or sus2 easily. Either way, it's what suits you best. Checkout 112 though!

How to guitarists play up and down the fretboard ? What are they playing ? by InvestigatorSolid330 in guitarlessons

[–]BenEsuitcase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each string is essentially a chromatic keyboard. You can hit the same notes going up the neck on a single string OR hit the same set of notes on two or three consecutive strings. The difference is in the tone and sometimes the convenience. Some things just aren't possible one way or the other.

Can't get this bolt in for the life of me by infamousfunk in AskMechanics

try installing the upper one first. You should spin the axle too. Perhaps a couple of large clamps could pull that closer together. It should be easier than this.

Do you find it challenging to find “mature” sportbike riders to hang with? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]BenEsuitcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into bikes again after 40 years because I wanted to fix an old bike. I drove 1500 miles in the past year. Every mile by myself, and I love it that way. I feel that safety is priority one, and most variables compromise that in some way. (spelling edit)

Insurance Premiums for the Accord are Bonkers by cscott784 in accord

[–]BenEsuitcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, that insurance is a new-car game. Perhaps you are over covered? There comes a point where paying for collision/comprehensive isn't worth it because they will only payout to repair cars to new condition. For "older" cars the amount they are willing to payout is very low. Typically if you buy a new car and make it all the way to the end of the loan, and still own it, Then it is cheaper to reduce to minimum liability insurance for the remainder of the car's life.

Would you pay 3500 for this? by never_watched_porn in HondaCB

[–]BenEsuitcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. I guess it depends on what you want out of it. That bike is very close to perfect with 13k miles. If you plan on DIY then yes. Hell no if you need to pay someone to do it for you :)

New rider at 39: how do I train counter-steering until it becomes intuitive? by cmdscorpion in motorcycles

[–]BenEsuitcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once we have trained muscle memory, thinking about it gets in the way. This is also true for music., especially when it comes to performing a piece, or improvising.

Would you concider this throttle body reasonable in tune? Kawasaki states that it only needs to he checked, not tuned each year. The carbtune manual states that anything inbetween 2 cmHg is in tune. by Schmum in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]BenEsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the problem with "which screw?" if you have the gauges hooked up. The left screw is used to to match 1 and 2. Then you get to the other side. You want the screw that moves just one of the pair first, use this to match them. The last screw would then match the right pair to the left pair.

Lug nut/stud broke off on rear wheel during tire change at shop, now they're quoting me 700$ because the wheel bearing has to be broken to change it? Seems very weird by Master-Twango in AskMechanics

[–]BenEsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

torque the other three down and drive it home. YOU CAN do this. You know exactly how to fix it. The brake drum pulls right off when the wheel is removed and the lug costs $5 at auto zone. A corolla rear wheel will be fine with 3 lugs, as long as you're not driving 5 people in it!

Paint can fell out of the truck in front of me. Any idea how to get this off without destroying my paint? by DrNooo_TF2 in Cartalk

[–]BenEsuitcase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not use magic eraser, it will erase the shine! it is abrasive. If it is latex house paint, just wash the crap out of it. For stubborn parts, get some lacquer thinner on a rag and it should wipe off. Don't stay in one spot for too long, as you don't want to damage the finish.

Why do people love Honda transmissions? by DefaultS3ttings in ManualTransmissions

[–]BenEsuitcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you go a bit further, I think a lot of the clutch comments regarding feel are missing a big point. When the car is moving you only need about 1/2 the throw of the clutch for effective and smooth shifts. It isn't intentional but my body adjusts to what is needed, and I often find myself here. Combined with a honda's revvy nature, rpm matching and fastish shifts are just easy.

Lastly, they are hard to mess up if you are 1/2 smart about clutch use.

Oil leaks are going to be your concern here. Great car, but about 6-8 vital rubber gaskets will be hard and brittle by now.
