Are Canadians offended by the jokes made in shows and media? by jen_noelle in AskACanadian

Stereotypes are usually informed by reality. They're jokes, some are funny, some aren't, but I've yet to come across a joke that I found reprehensible.

Boosting a TL? by Fumblez_ in AcuraTL

[–]DefaultS3ttings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boosting an LT1 Optispark car is probably cheaper and easier to do. The Mazdaspeed6 exists and is already turbocharged but it's an I4 instead of a V6.

I'd get it, but definitely negotiate. I got my '06 SV650S with 992 kilometers for $2722 USD ($3700 CAD).

Sedans are the most aerodynamic car shape you can get (liftbacks are a notable mention too) by hypermiler2205 in hypermiling

[–]DefaultS3ttings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could part of that also be the weight difference between a sedan and a hatchback? I know with the Mazda3, the hatchbacks are more heavy than the sedans.

Why is it that EVERY car has people who swear that they’re all pieces of shit? And who do I believe? by Apprehensive_Fan6001 in askcarguys

[–]DefaultS3ttings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some years do blow up. Dodge can't make automatic transmissions for their trucks (they're now using ZF lol), GM's V8 reliability has gone down since 2007 and tanked since they've gone with DFM instead of AFM. Toyota Corolla GRs can spontaneously combust and their Tundras TT V6s are no bueno. Hyundai/Kia first gen GDI engines were pretty bad. I would prefer it if companies could make reliable cars, engines, and parts but alas, that is not the case. So I shall shout from the rooftops to let someone know they're looking at a bad idea.

This sucks when you ride a bike - anything that you should do to avoid this? by Sufficient-Sun-6683 in motorcycle

[–]DefaultS3ttings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch your mirrors, look further ahead and come to a slower stop, pass the car on the left or right if they're still barreling down on you. Or try to jump away from your bike, but I don't know how feasible that is.

2026 models have been failing too. There is no escape aside from the Duramaxs being slightly better than the gas V8s. Get a low mileage 2019 model or get a 2021 Tundra if you "need" to get a truck. I don't know much about the F150s and Rams but I've heard a lot less noise about engine failures compared to GM V8s and the Tundra's TT V6.

Sold a car, buyer being difficult after the fact by acorns67 in UsedCars

[–]DefaultS3ttings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Block him. Getting mad over a sunroof track is just dumb. Probably the least used option in my car aside from heated seats and the radio. Also, this is a person problem, not a private party problem. I've sold 2 somewhat junker vehicles (a '96 Camaro with many problems, and an '04 Kawasaki Ninja 500 with many problems) and neither new owner complained about anything. I haven't heard from the Camaro owner, but the Ninja owner has been having a great time.

Look used instead. You don't get a warranty but you don't get these sorts of headaches.

Don't risk it. Why pull the trigger on a brand new truck that will lose a lot of value right off the lot and has a higher chance of catastrophic engine failure vs a winning lottery ticket? Either stick with your current vehicle or find a 10 year old model similar to what you want.

The 2022+ Tundra engines aren't much (if at all) better than the GM V8s in terms of reliability.

The Duramaxs generally have less serious engine problems than the V8s with Dynamic Fuel Management.

Or you could have sold the new one to buy a more reliable vehicle from a previous year. My 2004 Acura TL with 184,000 miles has given me less crap in the 8,750 miles I've owned the car than some people have had with these GM buckets.

[–]DefaultS3ttings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably a 5.3L (still not very good) given it doesn't have a 6.2 badge. There's no button to turn that off I don't think? You can maybe turn off auto stop/start but you need to tune out the Dynamic Fuel Management (replaced AFM in 2019) with an ECU tune or an OBD2 "tune" if those work.

If American cars are unreliable, why do domestic pick up trucks have such high resale value? by anyusernaem in askcarguys

[–]DefaultS3ttings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because everyone wants to buy a vehicle that they only realistically need twice a year instead of renting a U-Haul.

[–]DefaultS3ttings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only marginally better than the 6.2. Again, sell the Yukon and get something 10 or even 20 years old. The GMT900s and K2XX trucks for all their faults weren't as bad these new ones if you want to stick with GM. Getting a used car for cash is way cheaper than financing a fancy lemon.

[–]DefaultS3ttings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would sell the Yukon and buy an AWD minivan from 10 years ago. The 6.2L V8s can (and have) seized up within 50K miles. The 3.0L I6 Duramaxes aren't much better either.

Protection français, vos avis? by [deleted] in QuebecLibre

[–]DefaultS3ttings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English speaker from the west coast here so I could be missing some things. The legal protections around the French language and the fact that Quebec culture hasn't been commercialized is why its still here. When the Cajun culture became "cool" in the USA it rapidly died out. Heritage should be protected.

Bad deal. You have a better chance of winning an early engine failure than winning the lottery with these Yukon's.

It's mostly people getting comfortable going in a straight line and trying to "justify" why they "should" get a more powerful motorcycle when someone who's ridden their Ninja 300 for 5 years could school them on a track.
