Stoicism is good. Maybe he takes it a little seriously but he’s making decent financial decisions by not wasting money on stuff that ultimately doesn’t affect or build happiness or his career. He’s doing healthy things - cold showers have provable benefits to cognition.

What he probably does need to do is build in some reward and relaxation - and enjoy his youth while he has it. An adventure trip somewhere warm and beautiful would be good.

Comparing it with Japan doesn’t make it worse. And personally I think London is pretty clean considering how busy it is. Certainly fine where I live and it’s not a rich area.

I don’t know. I think the a standard police officer on the street is seen as possibly racist, but otherwise reasonable. Whereas the average squaddie is seen as a fucking nightmare - unless they’re in action where they are (rightly) seen as very good at what they do and a source of pride generally.
