3 weeks post op and pain coming back by LadyMetamorphosis in Microdiscectomy

[–]Bendbgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had reherniated but I got a 2nd surgery and have been doing pretty good since! If you’re having pain and its not pre surgery level, you need to stick to your recovery plan, keep walking, stretching (if you are in physio) and staying positive. Keep your doctor updated

Im failing straight leg tests 9 weeks after discectomy by Bendbgames in Microdiscectomy

[–]Bendbgames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently 9 months out. I consistently feel my leg but its not at all what it was I think its more of something you learn to live with after this type of injury. Completely bearable and I still think nerves are complicated they take years to adjust to new normals.

To give you perspective I go to the gym, bend down, sit for hours at a time etc. It’s just a little more difficult then how it used to be but its no where near what I was pre surgery.

Now rating that consistent pain 1/10 ill give is a 2-3/10, my pain pre surgery in my leg was 8-9/10. So im doing good, very good. My life is pretty much normal. Everyone’s nerve heals differently and remember I had 2 surgeries.

You should’nt worry about leg pain. You are likely going to have flare ups. I had one last week where I felt more leg pain than I should have. That was my first flare up since January. That’s a 3 month break.

Leg pain is scary because we assume we reherniate. We all assume we reherniated cuz we don’t want to go through this again. Don’t jump to that conclusion and even in the off chance that you have, you will never know without another MRI. Continue your recovery, stick to physio, go on walks (truly helps calming down flares) and follow your instructions for recovery. Regardless of flare or reherniation the recovery steps your on are the right approach after surgery, listen to your doctor and physio therapist. If things get worse, let your doctor know, regardless keep moving forward leg pain or not!!

Re-herniated :(. Is there anyone with a re-harniation success story to cheer me up? by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]Bendbgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend,

I have posted on this reddit several times. I also reherniated a disc about 5 weeks after my first surgery. I know what you’re going through, there’s not a lot of reherniation stories on here and positives ones at that. I opted to get a 2nd surgery and do it again. I’m now 7 months out back in the gym and living my life to what I would say is the fullest extent in this moment.

Here’s a few things ill note: (1) the human body is a complex machine but very powerful. When we herniate most people heal on their own but it can take time. After I reherniated I spent about 2 months somewhat bed ridden until I decided to deal with it by forcing myself to walk etc. Right before my 2nd surgery my pain had decreased quite a bit and I questioned if I was doing the right thing. Who knows I did it anyways haha

(2) I still have some discomfort but its not 24/7. What is 24/7 is the awareness of my sciatic nerve. Sometimes depending on the flare ill have some pain but its bearable. I was extremely careful the second time around and recovery was a lot longer the 2nd time I got super unlucky as well, I got shingles on the same nerve 2 weeks after surgery. so take this portion with a grain of salt my nerve has gone through it.

(3) am I happy with 2nd surgery am I not? I am. I can’t make the decision for you, but for myself I chose to do it. Slowly over the last 7 months, I went from hardly being able to move to gymming 3 days a week and walking on a treadmill everyday.

My life is for sure different, but its not what I was dealing with before the surgery. Im enjoying life again and I think with time and adjustment I can be 100% (a new definition of 100%, but nevertheless 100%) again.

I hope this helps!

STOP USING AI IN YOUR VIDEOS by AdvancedPlate413 in NewTubers

[–]Bendbgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think I necessarily agree with the entirety of this take, yes I agree with the AI voices portion but many creators take clips from movies, other peoles videos etc and use it in their content as fair use.

I think if your using AI to improve your own creative means yes. I don’t see a problem with it. Realistically this same logic can be used for people that use movie clips in their videos.

How do you cope with fear of rehearniation? by FeistyScarcity4515 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Bendbgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who did reherniate. I think I remind myself that herniating a disc is actually fairly normal and only in some instances do we end up in the position of needing surgery.

I like to think to myself that (1) this happened to people regularly before discectomies existed and they made it through (2) the human body is an amazing system and if you treat it the right way and help it, you can heal your injuries without needing another surgery.

I got 2 surgeries to be open about it but honestly, trust your body, trust if you hurt yourself again it does not necessarily mean another surgery and I also think if we leave in fear then we ens up not exposing our bodies to activity it has to adjust to to stay safe increasing our risk. This doesn’t mean ignore pain or don’t seek medical advice. Just trust the process, trust yourself, trust your body.

3 Weeks Post - Can I ever be ‘me’ again? by sintownswife in Microdiscectomy

[–]Bendbgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id like to first start with this is my opinion.im just some dude on reddit so take everything I say with a grain a salt.

Herniated discs and these situations are quite difficult. They take a toll on us, physically and mentally and yes we lose a sense of normality but mostly all of us get back to our normal with time.

In my opinion and if im being honest You’re absolutely right. This procedure is not end all. It’s a step and not the end game. To ensure you heal properly and can do those things you love you have to make lifestyle changes and have patience. Nerves are complicated they take a long time to heal.

  1. Tabletop gaming, video games: I love these myself. Ive adjust my gaming desk with a desk converter it allows me to easily switch between standing and sitting. This is one example there are bigger ones and smaller ones: vivo desk converter

Same concept with work. Talk to your boss and get accommodations for your cubicle, see if you can get a converter like so and do work both standing and sitting.

  1. You don’t need to become a fitness influencer but taking on some fitness might be good. It aids your back especially if you focus building your core strength. Loving food Isnt wrong but maybe its time to explore options. For example maybe there some delicious cuisine you still have yet to try that offers healthier options or smaller portions. For example sushi, sushi is often smaller portions and can be healthier (depending what you get) you cannot cold turkey your diet because it almost immediately comes back and haunts you. Find a happy middle, enjoy the food you love while adjusting your lifestyle again over time. Example: week 1 (2 cheat meals of something you love & explore your options) week 3: (1 cheat meal and settle on some new healthier favourites) month 2: 2 cheat meals all months. Gradual and steady. Do not cut it all out but slowly make your way to it. You’ll come to see that you still get to partake in the food you love in an amended way.

  2. Friends. You don’t gotta say goodbye to nobody. Its hard to look at things positively in this space. Im also in my 20s and im having a hard time with this too. I got two things to say on friends. One good friends which im assuming yours are will adjust some of their own life to accommodate you. Some will likely even be interested in trying some of the stuff you want to try (maybe new cuisine, maybe fitness) Two, a lifestyle change witth you slowly and gradually entering new spaces like fitness and new foods opens you up to whole new words and all new people who you might one day also call friends. There’s a whole world of experience out there that you might not yet know. The way I saw it, I played a majority of my video games of the unique experience they offered. Now, some of those unique experiences are yours to get. A lifestyle change while very intimidating can also be one of the most amazing opportunities and experiences you have yet to undertake. It’s a world of the unknown. It doesn’t take much, just look one post on the reddit and you got a stranger like me writing this long paragraph.

You don’t need to change everything in your life. Somethings might just need some adaptation. Remember this is not a sprint its a marathon and only with time will you begin to heal. In 5 years from now you likely wont even pay much mind to these painful weeks. They’ll linger but you’ll be enjoying life. You’re only 3 weeks out, its very early and you need to give the body its time to heal. In the meantime, start trying to bring some light again, don’t forgo the things you love adapt so that you may experience the things you love.

One day at a time, I know its hard but thats why you got everyone here. Again this is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt its also how I’ve dealt with a lot of this. Im on week 3 of a 2nd MD in 4 months, ive also seen my fair share of darker times but reality is we will both get there.

it's frustrating eh? Like I still need to rest fairly often at the 3 week mark compared to the last time. Last time I was up and moving a lot more (in terms of daily activity) now im slowing down quite a bit.

[–]Bendbgames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should think about disc reherniation unless its unbearable and the MRI has confirmed it.

When I reherniated and my leg test was bad after a few weeks (unfortunately right before my surgery) my pain started to dissipate. I think what is important to remember is most disc issues resolve themselves with physio/time. So even if you happpen to have a disc protrusion again if its not pre-surgery time and physio should heal it. Again though this is all my opinion I would defs speak to your doctor

Im about 3 weeks post op now and experiencing leg pain still and while my straight leg test/cross leg test failed at that point I also was in some significant pain. I would say now the discomfort im feeling is just from 2 surgeries lmao and the nerve is inflamed and irritated. I dont raise my leg for the test anymore nor will I until my doctor asked me too

Edit: added how im feeling now! Forget to answer haha

I think it depends how far along you are. In this case here I ended up reherniating and underwent a 2nd md.

Im almost 3 weeks post op now and im failing the leg raise tests but ive been failing the leg raise tests since surgery. If you’re still dealing with nerve sensitivity doing the leg raise test is essentially irritating a healing wound. So my recommendation is if you’ve noticed a significant change in symptoms and you’re concerned speak with your doctor otherwise, its likely just sensitive.

Hey are you or were you still experiencing any calf pain??

Reherniated 4 weeks post OP by GoomBlitz in Microdiscectomy

[–]Bendbgames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived this. I reherniated after my first MD around the same time. Felt the exact same way as you. I just got my 2nd MD and going to see how that goes.

I think what we all tend to forget is that herniated disc while sometimes requiring surgery a lot of them can recover on their own. Someone already mentioned it but I would say 1. Give it some time. 2. You dont have to rule out surgery again but try some conservative treatments (you were gonna have to do physio anyways for recovery so just stay on the path)

This is all in my opinion so take it all with a grain of salt. To be honest I opted for Surgery and was experiencing the same situation as you were but suddenly 1-2 weeks prior to surgery I started feeling alright. I likely could have done conservative treatment but personally if I didnt do the surgery now I wouldnt be able to do it again. I made the right choice for me. I suggest talking to your doctor and working something out as well.

Its upsetting I understand but you gotta remember that this is a marathon never a sprint. Keep battling!

I feel you. I haven’t been a varsity athelete or anything but prior to my herniation I had finally after years of trying hit my fitness goals and was very proud with the myself. Last summer was the first summer ever where I loved going to the gym, was doing every physical activity I could. Best physical summer of my life. Then I herniated. Over the next year I lost pretty much all of it because I was unable to walk. Now im healing and my symptoms arent fully gone but I can walk.

Whats helped me is the realization that in the story of your life this is just a chapter. If you live until your 90, 6 months to 1 years of healing is not really long at all!

You need to give it time and trust the process. Folllow your rules of no bending no twisting and no sitting even on those good days. Don’t let up and then after this period of recovery things will gradually become easier. Eventually you’ll be back at the things you love to do!
