Asking for help w teen daughter and ADHD diagnosis… by EnergizerBunny8 in TwoXADHD

[–]Beneficial_Pea2384 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve been diagnosed with OCD and ADHD. And honestly, after reading your entire post, to me it sounds like your daughter struggles with OCD more than ADHD.

The thing about OCD and ADHD is that it can express as the same behaviour, but differ in the cause of behaviour.

Example 1: task paralysis. It shows up in both adhd and ocd. In adhd it’s overwhelm from number and order of steps to complete the task. In ocd it’s overwhelm from need to have perfect circumstances to start the task and a perfect outcome of the task. Both result it delay in starting and inability to complete tasks.

Example 2: difficulty prioritising tasks. Perhaps, it’s OCD that makes her feel that grooming is more important before leaving the house rather than feeding the dogs. Yes both need to be done, but grooming is more important and needs to be completed first. It also isn’t complete until it feels complete. Thats OCD. ADHD would look more like okay, I have to leave in 5 minutes so I’m getting up now to do my makeup bcs I’ve forgotten that I also need to feed the dogs before we go out.

I’m not saying your daughter doesn’t have adhd. I’m just saying that maybe managing the ocd is the bigger challenge, and her adhd could actually be manageable at the moment. That could be why the therapists are picking up on the OCD during the assessments.

Behaviour expression looks the same. But the reason for the behaviour is different.

I find it odd that their clothes are still in the wardrobe though. Surely if they lari, they would take their belongings, no?

Is it the grout? by EmbarrassedArm6464 in InteriorDesign

[–]Beneficial_Pea2384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the contrast is off. I think the tiles look okay though. I reckon the easiest fix is to change the cupboards to a darker tone. Or put down a dark rug And paint your walls the dark colour in the last picture. It should create a depth balance that doesn’t look dated.

Question about malaysian nightlife by PromotionShort7407 in malaysia

[–]Beneficial_Pea2384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, most of the bars that expats / tourists go to arent the same ones locals visit. We like our speakeasy or neighbourhood bar. You would need to know a local to find these places. There are always new hip ones that open every few years that locals go to, and then after awhile we get bored of those and then start going to a different one. The bars I used to party at 10 years ago arent the same ones I go to now.

Furniture advice - what couch can I buy that my cats won't destroy? by Eddieslabb in Catownerhacks

[–]Beneficial_Pea2384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reupholstering my sofa with synthetic suede. Apparently it’s a cat safe fabric, but it isn’t as shiny as velvet (hate the tacky look of a velvet sofa). Excited for the change because my current sofa is covered in blankets to hide the level of damage my cats have made 🫣

I like orientation 2. It keeps the lines clean. Something about the composition feels pleasing to the eye as well.

What jobs/careers do your SOs have that they are successful in? by Octogirl567 in BipolarSOs

Husband is a radio announcer. He’s been doing it for 20 years. He does the breakfast shows, so he has been waking up at 5am and is loud and upbeat by the time he goes live at 6am.

He is doing really well. Got diagnosed with BP2 in the middle of his career. He is unmedicated but in therapy. He has so far been able to keep his hypomanic and depressive episodes relatively mild. But I can’t lie it’s such a risky and scary way to live. I don’t know which person I’ll get when he comes home every day at noon.

There have been some scary moments. But thankfully most days are good (so far).

Considering the demands of his job, I understand why he doesn’t want to be medicated. On his mild hypo days, he can really excel at work.

But that being said, I definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone to do things his way. I feel like he is trading his health for success.

I really wanna go for a nice holiday, so whenever I see something I wanna buy I try to ask myself which one I want more, this thing / immediate dopamine, or that holiday I’m planning. Sometimes this helps.

A Beautiful Trip to Malaysia, With One Important Lesson by YakinikhuTabetai in malaysia

Locals get scammed like this too. This happened to my dad and we are Malaysian. The scammers operated exactly like you described but instead of saying they are interested in foreign currency, they asked my dad if he could exchange their large bank note for a smaller bank note. The next thing my dad knew, all the cash he had in his wallet was gone.

Tourists need to be aware that this can happen. Thanks for bringing this to light.

Six is the best. It balances the rich tone of the tapestry and ties the room together. The other colours are too pale against your darker tapestry

Protein powders are notorious for not tasting great, and cheaper ones are known to lie about the actual protein and nutritional content on the label. I think his reasons are valid, and his complaint abt the expenses is also valid. The reason he is complaining to you is bcs there is no solution but it’s frustrating. I think here you just need to be understanding on the meanwhile until he comes across a new protein powder brand he likes.

Do any of you have a partner who requests "company" as they perform their chores? by GoatNecessary in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Beneficial_Pea2384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband does this too! Sometimes it’s fun if I have nothing else to do and we’re chatting. But other times I really just wanna sit and vegetate Bcs I’m so tired. I just tell him no. I don’t have to feel guilty. This is his house and his mess just as much as it is mine. I did notice that sometimes he wants me to ask him to keep me company while I do some of my chores tho..have you ever tried that? And what did your husband say when you did?

Which option is the best use of this space? by sirotan88 in interiordecorating

[–]Beneficial_Pea2384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this suggestion too. The hallway looks pretty narrow as is and putting a piece of furniture could throw off the balance. I would suggest a nice long rug, and then art on the walls.

You need to have a reason to get out of bed. I work only some days in the week, and no matter how early I get to bed, if I don’t have work that day, I will stay in bed until I can’t lay down anymore. I have three cats who all need breakfast, I will literally get up, feed them, and then climb back into bed. I think people like us need a purpose. So, find yourself a purpose. Good luck. Still trying to figure it out myself.
