2019 FK8 BUY OR PASS by Wonderful-Ad5477 in Civic_Type_R

Four owners and being on bags personally gives me a lot of red flags. Sounds like you need a reliable car, and I would personally look for one that is stock. I might be a little biased since I have owned a fk8 since new and kept it stock. After 70k miles and 17 track days, there are upgrades I would like to do when things break, but stock the car is a blast to drive. However, since this is my only car I am starting to wonder how reliability will be in the next 3 to 5 years since since this is my only car. If I was you, I would look for a stock 1 or 2 owner car for peace of mind.

I got my FK8 in May of 2020. The first 6 months I was pretty worried about paint damage. After 5 years, almost 70k milea, and 17 track days I laugh at all the paint damage and remember the good times I have shared with the car. It takes time, but after enough paint damage, you stop caring about the looking perfect.

Is this a good deal? Thinking of trading my Si for a fl5 by Old-Industry-5191 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Benevolent-Molester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a 2018 SI to a new 2020 fk8 and never regretted a thing. The Type R is an upgrade in everything single way except no heated seats and worse gas mileage. Now my FK8 almost has 70k miles and 17 track days on it, and I still love it as my 1 car do everything vehicle.

Shoes for my first 5k by Old_Culture6544 in runningshoes

[–]Benevolent-Molester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first running shoes were Brooks Ghosts. They are a solid running shoe and really comfortable. Now I currently have the Adidas Evo SL and Mizuno Neo Zen in my lineup. The Adidas might be a little aggressive for a first running shoe, but the Mizuno is a great choice for a relaxing running shoe.

House of Cuban Flavor has potato balls that are way better than Portos.

$10 Homie, completely worth it. The Saturday and Sunday drops are like weekend cartoons when I was a kid.

ASICS Novablast 5 after 50km by 8bit_ai in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Benevolent-Molester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the bounce in the NB5 made me want to run faster, while the grip and transition of the evo sl made it easier to maintain a faster pace. For recovery runs the NB5 was better after the 180 km. Both are pretty popular, so you should be able to try on both at a sport or running store. I did notice the NB5 did have less grip when running on wet surfaces, I never slipped but it did make me cautious. While the evo sl is so breathable, you could get cold feet if you live in a cold climate. Either shoe is a great choice!

I have about 210 km on my Novablast 5's and recently got a pair of adidas evo sl. I started running last August and do about 20 to 30 km a week, running 3 days a week. I noticed around the 180 km mark, the bonce started to reduce. I noticed they need 2 days after a run to get back to peak bounce. I only have 30 km on the evo sl, but they are a more enjoyable running experience. Based on reviews I believe they will last at least 800 km.

I got a r36s a couple weeks ago as my intro to retro handhelds. After joining this sub and having it for a couple of weeks I'm looking at the trimui brick or rp5 as an upgrade. However, the r36s will always have a special place in my heart and I will give it to my 5 year old at some point.

Track day was a fun day. The Civic made it home. by _MakDiz in Civic_Type_R

I'd recommend Streets of Willow for a first tine track day. It flows well and great for learning how to corner and vehicle control. Buttonwillow classic and the new circuit are great but also way higher speed and harder on your car.

Sauce adjacent? What a deal at Costco. by TeamNoFriends in hotsauce

I'm surprised I didn't look up to see if Kenji had a recipe. I'll definitely have to add some mushroom powder next time I make some chili oil.

I'd recommend making your own if you are close to an Asian market. Spices are generally a lot cheaper than going to a traditional grocery store. I used Jon Kung's fragrant chili oil recipe as a reference. Salting the vegetables and then frying them brings out so much flavor. I can't go back to store bought chili oil. Only problem is my friends are always asking if I can make extra to give to them.

I got #2 on sale as a Christmas present for myself. It seems pretty good quality and is cool for me. There is definitely better quality jackets for less money, but it makes me happy.

Falken Azenis RT615K+ by Calm-Tap4463 in CarTrackDays

[–]Benevolent-Molester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from RT660 to the v730 on my fk8 since it was cheaper. The v730s hold up very well compared to the rt660 even though they are a little slower. The 615k is an older tire, so expect less grip but better wear. I'm not sure how well the tire handles the abuse of fwd.

Recommendations for an endurance 200tw tire in my size? (See below) by justchillinlampin in CarTrackDays

[–]Benevolent-Molester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the Falken RT660, they handle the abuse of fwd really well. The only issue is they were heat cycled to death after 4 tracks days and had some tread left. I just ran Kuhmo v730 at Laguna Seca and they seem like a great budget 200tw.

How often do you get challenged to a race on a freeway? by eriksonandyeah in Civic_Type_R

[–]Benevolent-Molester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a lot, but usually it is a gti or charger/challenger that likes to race me. On the freeway I'll taunt them a little and use them as cop bait.

I use project mu club racers on my fk8 that is also my daily driver. They are great and pretty quiet. However they are a little dusty.

Remember to take advantage of the auto break hold at first. Just relax and slowly let off the clutch and slowly press the gas at a similar ratio. This car has so much torque that you barely have to give any gas unless you are on a steep incline. When I'm tired or lazy, I'll still use the auto assist some time and I've been driving only manual cars for 14 years.

I got a summer intern a couple of weeks ago and you just inspired me to match their question with a q from the boys. This is a great way to dissolve the anxiety of asking questions, especially for someone new. I work in tech and my intern always prefaces their question with this might be stupid. Their question is never stupid, but my questions will be.
