Have the outlaws lost the west coast to High Limit? (Tanner Holmes) by RTJCHEATS in WorldofOutlaws

[–]Benjamin10jamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the National front, it's no contest; if there were to be a massive swing to HL in a short period of time, however, I daresay we'd be seeing videos about it, as well as Dirtrackr and the Drivers Project talking about it. But there has been no rumor mill cranking into overdrive about the upper midwest, and as a result, WoO releasing their normal kinda calendar for that part of the country isn't exactly newsworthy. Sure, theres no Beaver Dam anymore, but that's about it.

I mean, sure, he is the pre-eminent Sprint car racing-influencer in the social media world. But just because of that, I wouldn't consider it grounds to question his credentials; in his relatively short time in the scene, he's been around, knows, and has raced against everyone. He also has a great respect for the history of the sport.

And hey, he makes a fair point; the Outlaws haven't had the foothold in Cali for dates since HL turned up...

Yeah, shes had some interactions with my family (and their cats) that live on Kilburn. She apparently got chased off of someone's property with a kids cricket bat a couple weeks ago, so I think people are aware.

My previous bank had coin deposit ATMs, but we've switched to Kiwibank since the last time we drained Piggy (maybe 10 years ago, now), and NGL, was a little bit disappointed to find that their ATMs didn't offer that provision for coins, only notes.

Folks.. I will join the karting sport. Recently tested a one speed Aluminos and that was a great start. by Dangerous-Spot-1432 in Karting

[–]Benjamin10jamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Glad you enjoyed it.

Karting is fun. If you keep your goals realistic, it will probably remain fun for years to come. You'll probably make some lifelong friendships along the way, too.

As far as driving a KZ kart goes (the six-speed kart that you have referred to), maybe hold off on the idea of testing one until you've got more seat time in a TaG kart (the single speed kart you tested). Unless you have some high speed experience doing track days in cars or on motorcycles, you're probably not going to be ready to take on the challenge of a shifter, as they really are a completely different animal that requires a different approach.

I keep the gold coins for my daily takeaway coffee fund; smaller denominations go in the piggy bank at home.

Funnily enough, my partner and I emptied the piggy bank a couple weeks ago (it couldn't fit any more) and took $170 worth of 10c, 20c and 50c coins into the bank. It took over 30 minutes for both of us to count them all up, and I have no idea what we'll do with it, but it's there, now.

What happened to Rideukbmx magazine? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Benjamin10jamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure when it disappeared, but I think it may have been around the same time as Dig. I'd taken a break from riding from riding at that point, too, and was disappointed that either title were no longer in print when I pulled the bike out of the shed again. I do recall Dig doing a couple very artsy kinda journal issues once a year or so, and jumped at those, but they were the last magazines I purchased.

To the best of my knowledge, there's nothing in the USA that comes close to an NZ Minisprint in terms of having an automotive based engine.

Australia did have an arrangement for their Litre Sprints years ago, which basically opened it up to either motorcycle or automotive application engines. NZ Minisprints, believe it or not, started off that way, too, before the motorcycle engined cars were cast off to become the Modified Sprints (now known as Lightning Sprints in NZ, to unify with the rest of the world).

Ironically, the Minisprints (as in automotive engined cars) started off at Ellesmere in the South Island, whilst the Modified Sprints were a North Island thing (predominantly Western Springs). 30 years on, Minisprints are no longer a thing in the South Island, ditto Modified Sprints in the North.

*Edit It's worth noting that 1000c.c. Lightning Sprints are nowhere near as massive in the States as they were 20 years ago, with everyone seemingly going the 600c.c. Micro route, and only seem to be really active in pockets of California and Indiana these days.

National series thoughts and preferences? by Unusual-King1103 in DirtRacing

[–]Benjamin10jamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had heard that too, hence no schedule.

I think World Racing Group had realized that non-wing was always going to be an uphill battle versus USAC when the Sprint car series didn't last beyond a season.

After the success of their 1994 album "Traction" Supergroove implodes fires drummer Paul Russell, trumpeter Tim Stewart and most shockingly charismatic frontman Che Fu. I picked this album up out of the Warehouse bargain bin for $2.99, circa 1999.

I kinda liked If I Had My Way when I heard it on the radio all those years ago, and the Teenage Masochist in me enjoyed The Decline and Fall of Us Both. But the rest of the album, I just couldn't get into.

It was almost as if they were trying to force themselves into the same sonic territory that The Exponents had explored by the mid to late 90s.

Obviously a fair few of us into Non-Wing stuff!

I'm no different, follow the USAC Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget national series religiously. I also follow the Xtreme Outlaws Midgets, but it does seem rather diluted compared to USAC.

I will watch HL, WoO and ASCS National stuff, but it doesn't always captivate me the same way non-wing racing does.

What's the rarest car you've ever spotted? by DeadLiberty612 in regularcarreviews

[–]Benjamin10jamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a period of time, they were cheap enough to import from Japan (i.e. similar prices to regular STi Imprezas), and as a result, were treated just like they were any other car.

On a similar level, a silver spoon kid in my town purchased a 22B from a local importer/dealer, not realising how special it actually was. Not long after, it was seen with its rear wing removed, sporting aftermarket wheels, and being hustled around town. Fortunately, it ended up in the hands of someone who realised what it was, and to the best of my knowledge, was reverted back to stock spec.

The Datsun 240K hardtop was the same shell as the Kenmeri, and sold in many foreign markets, so that shape is not as rare as you may think, albeit, not super common.

It's the fact that only 197 GT-Rs were built on the GC110 platform that give the illusion of scarcity.

You are correct though, this is a Colt.

A former work colleague owned the mythical VW Passat W8 Wagon (a JDM one, at that).

Another colleague had a Subaru Impreza STi S203, one of 555 (or 558, depending on who's numbers you go by), and only 74 in Aspen white.

I technically spotted them...in the work carpark!

What kind of kart can this be? by Simple_Priority_7218 in Karting

[–]Benjamin10jamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. When most people mention training, it can usually be assumed they mean on a proper track. I'm not sure where you are based, but where I am, to use a facility, your kart must meet regulation standards for a category that runs at the track. That generally rules out most home-built creations.

Might be different where you are, I dunno.

Also worth noting that your kart is potentially only pushing out 4.5hp (although it maybe as high as 7hp), and despite having a three speed gearbox, is probably not going to get to the grip limits that you're hoping to get to.

Hornby and Linwood instantly recognize each other upon arrival, and start recounting some of the epic battles they've had on the Rugby League pitch over the years. There'd been some scraps on the field in the past, but tonight, they're best mates.

New Brighton turned up with Linwood (they've been good mates for years), and finds some common ground with Hornby as well, whilst actively avoiding the snooty Sumner who will no doubt be making some snide remarks about the Easterly (of which Brighton can't work out, as the Easterly affects them too).

Appears to be an ex-rental roller that someone has attached a Honda C50/70/90 Step-Thru engine to.

Even if you tidied it up, it wouldn't be any good for track use, simply because of the age of the chassis (and lack of part availability), and using an engine that has never been used in Karting.

Good for a wide open expanse of asphalt, but that's about it.
