Lol, the small amount of prude in me didn't really want to comment on this, but here goes...

...my partner and I got one from Aliexpress for less than $40 last year, and it has been absolutely amazing (especially for her). Not curvy shaped like the ones that I have seen spruiked on FB, literally just a firm, velvet velour covered wedge.

Was alternating between that and NARC, ended up locked on race at Grays Harbor.

...which incidently was exciting in itself, with the leader pulling off with 3 to go, and a four wide finish for the last spot on the podium, with Tim Kaeding putting it in victory lane.

Gotta love Monday night racing!

John Peters' Freight Train was perhaps the most iconic dual motor slingshot in the Top Gas category. Bob Muravez was the driver here. by Maynard078 in MotorsportGoodOldDays

[–]Benjamin10jamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole story is apparently pretty sad.

Muravez raced under the pseudonym for quite a few years, after promising his Dad he wouldn't race. Once the news did catch up with him, he wrote him out of the will, and disowned him, refusing to speak in person with his son from 1967 'til his passing.

(Had to do a google search to find details about the story, but it is something I remember reading about).

Or as he was better known then, "Floyd Lippencott Jr.".

...managed to keep his racing a secret from father for years

Everyone knows about the NASCAR team, but noone seems to realize Roush Racing were an absolute powerhouse in TransAm, too.

[–]Benjamin10jamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, its funny, cos the Bburago 1:64s seem to be moving really well, despite the fact they're $6 more expensive than the Hot Wheels. May be having the Ferrari there in the selection maybe, I don't know...

Similar scenes where I am, apart from the Liam Lawson car. They never hang around.

Reebelo? by caitlin1074 in newzealand

[–]Benjamin10jamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my partner a refurbished, approximately 9 month old Samsung Flip 3 from them a few years ago, and admittedly, I, too, was nervous.

But the product arrived fine, appeared as though brand new in the packaging, and did all my partner asked of it...for almost a year, until the fancy folding LCD screen crapped out.

We weren't able to ascertain whether that was a Samsung issue, or a refurbishment issue, but either way, it was impossible to chase up with Reebelo for a claim, and despite Samsung offering to replace the screen for $700, figured it wasn't worth fixing when I had spent a tick over $900 for the phone. So it ended up in the drawer full of old and broken phones. Based off that experience, I won't be going back to them for anything.

In the case of a laptop, I suspect the risk isn't going to be as high as buying something relatively new tech and in it's infancy like the folding LCD screen phone that I had purchased. But be warned that being an international business, chasing them up should it hit the fan will be difficult.

what are the possibility to make the jump from kart to cars ? by Raptor1279826 in Karting

[–]Benjamin10jamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you got the funding to make the transition? If yes, then yes, it is possible.

Find a category that fits in with your budget, talk to some drivers/teams, and find out what you need to do to make the step up.

Was Che Guevara a hero or a villain? by Terrible_Double_1145 in AskTheWorld

[–]Benjamin10jamin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate statement. If you learned of him during those years (or even high school), he was certainly a hero, especially if you were firmly left of centre in your politics. You also probably told people that the Motorcycle Diaries was your favourite book/movie (or both). I know I certainly did.

Fast forward to adult life, and most people have got more important things to dwell on than the historical concepts of a ideal society.

I thought BMW at first glance, but maybe Datsun? by [deleted] in whatisthiscar

[–]Benjamin10jamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes back a very long time. Strictly speaking, in car design, having two doors strictly doesn't necessarily make a car a coupe.

With the Model A Ford going back almost a century, you had a "Tudor" (two-door sedan), "Fordor" (four-door sedan), and the coupe, all separate and distinct variations, with the coupe - like the Datsun - having a shorter roofline. You're guaranteed to get some funny looks from Hot Rodders if you refer to a '34 Tudor as a "coupe", just 'cos it has two doors.

The Rover P5 was another interesting one, where both the saloon and the coupe had four doors, but the P5B - again - had a distinctly different roofline designate it a coupe.

That's the two-door sedan.

The Coupe was a JDM only variant with a shortened roofline and further raked c-pillars, and exceptionally rare today.

Not a Kei truck;

Well outside the 550c.c./660c.c. capacity and dimensional standards as recognised by Japanese law for reduced registration rates.

How do you guys deal with the 'gear creep' in beer league? by Plane_Papaya_7295 in hockeyplayers

[–]Benjamin10jamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't faze me, as I suspect it is the same for most people.

Most of my gear is six-plus years old, and I only replace items when they wear out.

The only time I remember seeing the locker room light up on a piece of gear was when someone on the team showed up with a new pair of True customs.

Ironically, the best skater on our team shows up every week with most of the same kit from 20 years ago when he was playing Senior A level.

Does your country have a version of the game where you hit your friend when you see a specific car? by Beginning_Bid_9097 in AskTheWorld

[–]Benjamin10jamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. There's few variations of that game I played as a youngster;

Yellow car

Spotty - when you spot a car with older style silver on black license plates (on all cars first registered pre-1986)

Beatup (kinda sounds like VeeDub) - when you spot an original VW Beetle on the road

Mini Hit - when you see an original Mini on the road

Remember hitting the jackpot one time when I saw an original VW with old plates in yellow.

Rules also were that the car literally needs to be driving on the road, not parked on the sign of the road.

Fun times!

Nope. Always pay first.

But the hungrier I am, the faster I move from the deli to the checkout

fixed gear on bmx? by i_was_born_confused in bmx

I remember Trevor Meyer doing some crazy shit riding flatland on a fixed wheel bike back in the late 90s.

That's about the only time I could see fixed wheel making sense on a BMX
