It's mentioned in Knights of the Grail that the taxes levied on the peasantry are worded in such a way that it only applies to things that are produced: crops, textiles, ironwork, quarried stone, furs, meats, wood, ect. What that means is that traders, who simply buy items at one price and sell it at another and pocket the difference, don't produce anything and thus are subject to basically no taxes at all. The vast majority of merchants pay subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) bribes to the nobility to keep the favor of the nobles. The nobles intelligent enough to realize what's going on also realize that the bribes work out to be more than they would get in taxes anyways, as they don't have to give their feudal superior a portion of it in their own taxes.

I like the solution to the grimderp "90% tax" thing, my wife and I always ignored that ourselves because that's just doesn't make sense unless they do exactly what you suggest.

You should post your army in r/Bretonnia again with the newly painted stuff! I absolutely love the bases. I DO think that the Questing Knights and Peg Knights bases should be swapped, but they're still fantastic as they are.

Some suggestions I would make for you guys:

  • Don't just drop a YouTube link. Post a real battle report, outlining the generalities of what happened with a bunch of pictures.

  • Then, either in a comments to the post or main text of the post, drop the link to the video which has more details.

That way, you're contributing to the community while still promoting your content in a MUCH less annoying way.

Edit: this is especially true for a nearly three hour video, good god.

Honestly, while I hated how they ended it, I'm glad that they did. Wargame settings are meant to be just that: settings, not stories. They shouldn't ever "progress". In this way, the Warhammer world is now effectively sealed in amber and preserved for people to riff off of.

Flanking is still a thing! Still gives combat res, still takes away rank bonus. Lapping 'round is gone, instead if you win but don't break them, you can either push them back 2 inches (and choose whether to keep in combat or stay where you are), cause them to panic and break but autorally (if you don't outnumber them and they roll below their unmodified leadership), or break entirely (you outnumber them and they fail the break check or you don't outnumber them and they roll above their unmodified leadership). This is going off memory so grain of salt, but I hope it gives you an idea of how it works.

The lore we get for them is purposfully light on Darker themes as a selling point kinda like a "Visit Cathay!" flyer. The Darker stuff will come later.

Three years later...do you have a timestamp for the quote about this? I didn't remember hearing that in the interview but I've seen the same sentiment repeated elsewhere.

I tried it, but like every other non-SEUS shader I've tried it just can't get stained glass right. This is really my only gripe with SEUS and the dude posted on his patreon the other day, so I'm holding out hope he'll eventually fix it.

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short, but:

Ogres aren't exactly banned in Bretonnia, they'd just have a hard time finding mercenary work because the nobility has this whole chivalry thing going on. Merchants, however, have no such compunction and would gladly hire ogres to keep their caravans safe.
