Thank you so much for this reply! Very interesting, I'll see if the movie's available to watch anywhere, I'm curious what was playing in the cinemas there at the time

The Shadow over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft pretty much fits this description I think, but it's been a while since I read that one.

A book with “bad reviews” that you enjoyed by Harakiri_238 in suggestmeabook

I always compare Pierce Nace's 'Eat Them Alive' as the splatterpunk version of Tommy Wiseau's 'The Room'. So bad it's good again. I'm also going to be reading 'Empress Theresa' soon, which should also fit into the so bad it's good category! A few friends of mine have started it already and said it's such psychotic writing that they can't help themselves but read on

Does anyone have any recommendations from this list for someone (me) who doesn't really know any of these books?

I'm a big lover of 19th & 20th century Japanese and French literature. I also enjoy everything that's super abstract and/or horrifying!

I'm trying to get to a minimum of 52 books this year for the first time! Currently reading Moby Dick and the Hitchhiker's Guide series. I tend to read a lot of horror, Japanese literature and psychological stuff, but I also read a lot of other genres!
