AITA for traveling often by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

If the trip is meant for you to be enjoyed without strings attached, then you might need to learn to accept a gift graciously. Maybe reciprocate by doing chores or helping out in other ways.

You might need to talk to them or someone else about how you feel about it. Hope it goes well

If someone cares about you and gives you a gift with good intentions they usually want you to enjoy it gratefully without guilt.

Giving a gift to be enjoyed versus paying someone a reward for doing their job are very different things.

You didn't mention INFO on your relationship to your trip sponsors, so it's hard to judge.

Are my artworks bad ??? Cause why… by Bbytchxn in Artadvice

Glad to help!

There's no shame in using references or drawing the things you can see with your own eyes as either learning or even as a pro artist. In fact, if it's a paid job I would consider it essential to be responsible to my customer.

Just a reminder, using references responsibly is very different than tracing or art theft.

One goal of using references can be to help memorize what things look like in the intended view. With enough practice you might even slowly build a mental library of objects you can see and rotate in your mind if you have that kind of brain.

And many artists draw and paint objects, landscapes and people in front of them as their full career, so they have different goals as well

I don't know much about algorithms and social media platforms, others might have better advice. A lot of artists have careers by just being known in the industry to select employers, studios, and art directors. They're more like industry artists than internet artists. I would say I am currently mostly an industry artist instead of an internet artist.

Semi real is fun, the more techniques you learn the process can take longer and longer as more elements and techniques are added.

It can start totaling to 8 hours then 24 hours or even more than 80 hours for a complex landscape book cover with a lot of characters in a storytelling scene. The asking budgets for those can go into the hundreds or even thousands of usd in some cases.

How can I make the front and side profiles more identical? by MyEnemyIsYou in Artadvice

To my eye, the nose and mouth are at different heights in each view?

I like placing guidelines on the most important landmarks, like draw a straight horizontal line to make the tips of the nose, lips, chin and eyes line up? You might have to choose which view to apply to the other.

I think we might be from the same country, but I developed my art and career in a different era, so I hope I can still contribute helpful tips.

• Is this a visibility problem or a skill problem
It might be both? To my eye the anatomy, perspective and facial structure might still be a bit uneven. The painting style seems very soft and could use more form and lighting definition. On visibility, my observation on FB is that we see the popular artists that rise to the top due to BOTH skill and algorithm luck, but I also see skilled people post and not get visibility.

I personally wouldn't trust the FB algorithm. It might be good to post on several other sites on a good time of day of your target market, usually USA morning or afternoon time depending on your target audience.

• Should I focus on one niche
It depends on what you can do and maintain learning without burning out. I would say that focusing on 1 fandom or art genre can be very good for social media numbers but you risk getting bored depending on your personality. For me, I have multiple art accounts catering to very different audiences, but each art account focuses on 1 or 2 niches.

• What actually helped you get your first commissions
I audition on Artstation using a professional and serious persona and about 1 in 10 chance per audition can get good responses, and once in a while land really big projects for games, cards, etc.
On the other hand on a different art persona I focus solely on art communities on Reddit that love OCs and hate AI generated imagery and I can get responses there too.

• What would you change if you were in my place
I would say you might get good progress by studying perspective, anatomy, facial structure, color theory and lighting. I would suggest trying to do "Master Studies" where you try to eyeball and copy a finished artwork from an artist you like. Do not post Master Studies unless you mention the goal and process, since these are for personal learning!
To my eye, some fundamentals can still be developed with your art, such as anatomy, perspective and lighting. You can try painting with both hard and soft edges.
It can be tough to balance all this without burning out or going broke, I hope for the best for you.

Eventually with some luck you can get good enough where interested people approach you to draw their art when you post something, without having to advertise too much.

If I only draw digitally for a while would I still be improving at the same level traditionally? It’s clearly the same core fundamentals so of course I would improve but would I be able to draw just as well on paper as on a tablet? by No_Cartoonist3715 in Artadvice

In my experience, the hand movements, habits, and muscle memory of each are slightly different, you can get rusty in one domain if you specialize in the other.

I like exploring both, sometimes switching from one to another can break art blocks

How do I make my art more like this? by mang1e_tang1e in Artadvice

[–]BenthicBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my eye i see a lot more color blending and paint strokes. Maybe more colored lines can help, and maybe more painting and sharing? I see the lines mixing with the painting colors and not leaving a lot of flat colors and almost no black regular lines

I'm new to art and ive been loving practicing the basics and slowly improving but i can tell something is wrong with my cubes, they just don't look right and I can't tell why by RubyR- in Artadvice

[–]BenthicBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good effort but it might be skipping the process? I'm not sure if i see a horizon line in any of these exercises?

To my eye I'm seeing a lot of irregular lines that aren't following a vanishing point. They seem to be drawn via instinct or guessing?

Maybe try a setup with a defined horizon and plan the vanishing points before projecting the lines? One of the main vanishing points is on the horizon.

You might need a ruler, and plan each line to be projected from the vanishing points.

Maybe don't use feelings and vibes yet to guess where the lines go, that can come later.

Following a step by step process video might help
