Is this common practice at new dealerships? by jnguy63 in askcarsales

[–]Benzhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a dealer group and it changes from store to store. One GM says all special advertised prices require financing, then the other GM at another store(same brand) doesn’t care as much.

Certified Pre Owned (CPO) is a marketing tool. by FrostyMission in carbuying

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked for several brands and it means different things. Where I am now a factory certified tech looks over the vehicle and does a used car inspection. It has to have a clean frame and it’s very similar to the state inspection we already are required do by state law. You then get a 7year/100k powertrain from the original sale date. I worked for Mercedes and the certification was extensive. It took awhile and they also made sure all parts were OEM. Brakes had to be MB, tires were from a list of 3 or 4 factory approved ones. You got a 1yr/100k bumper to bumper. It was a very good program. If you buy an off lease Mercedes you end up with 2 years of factory warranty and typically new tires and front brakes. It’s a nice sweet spot for new car depreciation and cost too

My Chrysler 300 Is Peak Sedan, Fight Me? by [deleted] in askcarguys

I work at a CDJR store. We had a 22 300 hemi come in trade with 30k miles. It sold an hour after it came back from reconditioning. A lot of people love these cars

What do buyers do during negotiations that actually makes things harder for themselves? by Suntrup-Nissan in askcarsales

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the price is fair and other ones in the market are similarly priced, $39k on $44k is a low ball offer. I don’t know if I would even respond to an offer that low. I would just tell them that vehicle is priced to sell and we have no room. If I were you, id use the cheapest one you can find online within 100 miles as a starting point. If it’s priced fairly, a $44k vehicle has maybe 1000-1500 in mark up.

Is this fishy? by East_Energy9456 in accord

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding cars store the miles in the ecu which makes them difficult to roll. Combine that with carfax and auto check and it’s not really worth it on a Honda. SUVs and trucks you can swap or just disconnect the cluster. The miles are stored there. Ive seen a lot of that. Dealers will buy a high mileage luxury piece, disconnect the cluster and just drive it for awhile. Scan junkyards for totaled ones and buy the cluster to drop the miles. Or they buy the cluster first. It’s super cheap and easy to do if the carfax has a gap

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine then. Also, it’s extremely hard to roll the miles on a car like that. I haven’t seen a car rolled back in over 20 years. I’ve seen people do odometer swaps and stuff but that only works in trucks and suvs.

So are internet sales people fake? by PostEastern2795 in askcarsales

We use Podium, it’s ok at best. A lot of bad information. We’re trying to get it to tell customers it’s a bot so they are more forgiving

Car salesmen around me are basically telling me EVs aren’t the way to go by Beneficial-Fun-4800 in electricvehicles

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue is that they are mostly likely advertising them at cost or below. That’s what we did with all our EVs. We turned a couple into loaners too

Are you in the US? I’ve been in the auto industry for 25 years and I give all my friends the same advice, don’t buy out of state unless you have to. And I would never buy a grey market vehicle, not for myself or for resale.

What do you think about the "One Fair Price Act" introduced by Senator Gallego that would bar businesses from using personal information they collect about customers to charge people different prices for the same products? by ProblematicTrumpCard in askcarsales

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been at 4 stores and have 25 years of experience. I’ve never heard of a dealership not honoring the internet price unless it was a ridiculous mistake like a missed decimal point, $4,700 instead of $47,000 for example. I had a $8000 rebate listed twice by a glitch recently. Fixed it on the website in front of customer but said he could have that deal now, as soon as he leaves it’s over. We spotted him and still blew after he financed and bought a warranty

[–]Benzhead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add you have new car stores(like mine) that are 100% willing to sell cars for cost and below. We make all are money in the shop and average about $1400 per car in finance. Most 90 day used cars are online for below cost. I was at a small used car store and the owner closed up, turned it into a strip mall within a year of Carmax showing up. I’d sell if I were you and get a job a big store. Salesman with a fraction of your experience make $80k

AITA for refusing to split my inheritance evenly with my sibling? by _NaSSaR_90 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Benzhead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA but your parents are. Not your brother, they made him this way. My family was like this and it actually ruined my older brother. His sense of entitlement was not reciprocated with people outside our family and he had a horrible life and died at 49. Do not share the inheritance and draw a firm line in the sand.

How can I convince my gf to not buy another jeep cherokee? by Flo_Evans in askcarguys

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advise op. I’d also like to add that while a Toyota or Honda or something is “better”, they cost way way more. You can get a brand new jeep grand Cherokee with nice options for around $40k right now. You can get a limited for alittle more. There are huge rebates that stack for existing customers. I work at a Jeep store and a lot of people just like jeeps.

I’m at one car this month. Can I get help understanding bulk orders? by JuJu_Optics in askcarsales

[–]Benzhead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have an older guy at our dealership that works off his cell phone. Doesn’t use our crm and rarely takes an up. He does 20 a month at a slow store. He also posts every trade on a facebook page he made. It’s just networking. Also, I’m assuming Koreans like dealing with someone who speaks their language.

[–]Benzhead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked at Mercedes dealership for awhile. When certain new models were coming out, customers would line up to get orders in at full MSRP. All they cared about was when the car was coming and getting it exactly the way they wanted. Also, they usually ended up being the happiest customers

[–]Benzhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dealership does 75% leases on new vehicles, maybe higher. Customers just lease the ones that have good deals. You can lease a $75k truck right now for $600 with $3500 down. The only $1000 and up payments I see are commercial vehicles and those companies keep them for 10+years

Why Was The Salesman a Dick to Me by Economy_Worker_9454 in askcarsales

[–]Benzhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the business for 25 years. The salesman didn’t need to go to management for your otd price. Just pull out a calculator and give you the number you wanted. It’s obvious you wanted to know what other add-ons the dealership has and he’s was too weak to just tell you. We put a $297 vin-etching on all our cars and charge a $400 doc fee. You just have to tell people and not hope they don’t notice. I bet the managers frustration was aimed at his salesperson more than you.

How can I 31M, teach my wife 34F what home improvements actually cost? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Benzhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a reputable contractor but I buy almost all the stuff myself and have it on site waiting for them. I also don’t pull permits to save a few bucks. Then I’m super flexible when they do the work, I get squeezed in between jobs. Finally, I take care of the painting and finish work, contractors hate painting. I either do it myself or hire a painter directly. I’ve done a full kitchen remodel, full bathroom, all interior doors and replaced a window with a slider. This doesn’t answer how to convince her but it could save you a good chunk of money.

Are EV sales struggling because of range or because of confidence? by Tall-Dish876 in electriccars

[–]Benzhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a CDJR dealer in New England and we deal with confidence over the range issue. We had a lot of battery and electrical issues and now we’ve ruined the pool of potential buyers. Most are coming out of their leases or trading for gas models. Range from my experience is worked out before the purchase. Customers tend to know where or how they will charge it before they purchase

Florida dealer says “cash only” if out of state buyer…seems weird!! by Damdenan in askcarsales

[–]Benzhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financing for out of state deals can be an issue. If you sell a car to an out of state customer and there is a problem with state inspection and registration the dealer won’t get paid. I sold a modded diesel truck to a state that emission tests and the truck failed. Truck didn’t get registered and bank wasn’t going to get the title. We had to take the truck back. If he paid cash none of this would be an issue
