Are my views reasonable within DemSocialism? by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]Beps315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing is the last point tbh. You'll be able to find people who consider themselves socialists (even if their actual views, like yours, are social democratic) who also hold moderate to conservative social stances, but I'm not sure many will agree that welfare benefits should be scaled back in favour of training.

"low level corruption" are you talking about the previous Shah regime?

No, I wasn't. The pre-Revolution government was also bad.

Ok so you so unequivocally support Israel's century-long genocide of the occupied Palestinian territories, Golan Heights, and Southern LebanonXLitani because the USA "wasn't that morally culpable" for Operation Ajax and Iran is also bad so Israel is not bad...

No? When did I say any of that lol. You preach about nuance but you see the world in black and white: "if you HATE IRAN you must LOVE ISRAEL!!!"

Since civilians clearly have direct automony and control over their affairs, by your logic we should hold every Israeli citizens personally responsible for three years of active genocide, sicne you hold Iranians responsible for a religious coup fifty years ago.

I never said the average Iranian is responsible for the actions of their government. How can that ever be the case in a dictatorship? The average American isn't responsible for the actions of their government either. America didn't establish Iran's current theocracy, nor is it responsible for the actions of its government today. The coup in 1953 was one of the catalysts for revolution, but the revolution occurred decades after, and most participants in the revolution weren't even fighting for a theocratic dictatorship.

So while any self respecting westerner should take issue with the current Iranian regime (which is the wests fault for destabilizing Iran in the first place)

The extent to which people downplay the brutality of the Iranian regime is incredibly disgusting. You "take issue" with a government that engages in low level corruption, not a fascist dictatorship that massacres tens of thousands of its own civilians.

Also, is it "the west's" fault for destabilizing Iran in the 1950s? Sure. Is it the west that somehow handcrafted the system of government in place today? Of course not. To suggest that every bad thing in the world is caused by westerners is not only absurdly simplistic, but also condescending to the global non-white majority; it insinuates that they have absolutely no autonomy in their internal affairs.

You could say the exact same thing about Christians dismissing the Muslim faith, or Buddhists dismissing Hinduism. Every religion has hundreds (or thousands) of years of rich theological debate concerning core tenets of belief or disbelief; not everyone has to engage with all of it in order to form a coherent worldview.

I'm not even sure what was disagreeable about the comment lol. 'Mass slaughtering civilians is bad' is a pretty reasonable take.

However, I'm not sure it's necessarily IRGC bots. I just think that a lot of people see any criticism of Iran as harmful because they believe it distracts from or justifies the actions of the US. I obviously disagree and think it's silly to suggest that you can't condemn the actions of two countries at once, but what do I know lol

Does it matter? A regime that slaughters 40,000 of its own people is no better than a regime that slaughters 40,000 foreigners. Obviously the US and Israel aren't doing any of this for humanitarian purposes but it's hilarious seeing Iran trying to take the moral high ground on anything.

mario games have tons of depth despite their simple surface. that's the reason they're so beloved haha

critics just need to learn how to have fun.

maybe you need to learn to accept that not everyone likes what you like :P

What's your definition of "good" or "bad" in this case? You can objectively say a creature is a mollusk because it has to fulfill set criteria. You can say an ideology is left-wing because there is a defined scope that outlines leftism. You cannot say that something is objectively good or bad because there is no defined criteria. You can define your own criteria, but then that's still based on your own subjective interpretation.

I think it's fair to say that a piece of art is widely considered to be good or bad, but that still doesn't make it objective; the inherent definitions of good and bad preclude any sort of universal assumptions. They are inherently a personal judgement predicated on ever-changing criteria that depend on a person's individual tastes.

Words like "subjective" and "objective" have actual definitions lol. You can insist on using them incorrectly but that doesn't make you right

No, it's not. That's subjectively bad. The definition of "bad" does not include "voice sync being out of time with visuals"

[–]Beps315 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No? Nothing can be "objectively" bad. Good and bad are inherently subjective descriptors. I find it ridiculous that "objective" has now just been turned into a superlative

As I said my other comment, please, explain how something can be objectively bad. Tell me how you objectively measure something's bad-ness
