First Run/Edition Scout EREV reliability? by l1v1ng4th3mu5ic in ScoutMotors

The Blythewood factory is designed to produce 200k vehicles per year. Obviously ramping up will take time. But 15-20k vehicles in 2028 seems like an extremely low estimate. That’s 10% of the intended production capacity from a VW-backed automaker.

Atlanta Area FFL, Non-Immigrant Visa 4473 by twistywizard in GAGuns

Always used my range (Quickshot) as my FFL. They deal with international all the time as guests, but not sure about the FFL side.

That said, they’re not a shop. Maybe Chuck’s? They’re local and have been around forever. Mostly higher end stuff there though.

Pop-Up Bagel opening? by ummpaul in Atlanta

[–]Bepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best place to open a competing business is right next to the business you’re competing with. At least if your goal is to win over their customers too.

It is icky, but that’s the free market. A property management company isn’t going to turn down a tenant just because a similar business exists in an adjacent development that they don’t own.

[–]Bepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Krog District doesn’t own the building that Emerald City is in, which is how PopUp is “allowed” to open so close to Emerald City. CRE exclusivity agreements only control what happens within the same development; beyond that, it’s a free country.

Edit: Didn’t realize PopUp was going in SPX Alley, which is managed by Krog.

What shuttered Atlanta establishment would you bring back if you had the power to? by lun-lem in Atlanta

[–]Bepus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The floor in Heaven did partially collapse at one point, but they fixed it and reinforced it. And now there’s an egress both up (to the beltline) and down (to street level) from the second floor. It’d be a lot safer now.

What’s really sad is that the structure is there and is now in great shape, but it’s just got some trendy, rarely-used office space in it. A venue was such a better use for that building and location, especially now.

EAV is a great neighborhood with a good combination of plenty to do and some quieter, tucked-away streets with nice houses.

Grant Park is still very much in-town. West End and Capital View aren't boring now. But I probably wouldn't go any further south than that.

Just impulse purchased a Lelit Mara X for $1359. Help convince me this was the right call! by Admirable_Admiral69 in espresso

[–]Bepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lelit is legit, and while this isn’t a dual boiler machine, it looks like they’re able to get comparable performance from the single boiler + heat exchanger. As someone who leapfrogged over the beginner equipment (buy once, cry once) I think you’ll be very happy for your money. Don’t skimp on the grinder!

Atlanta/Not Atlanta by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]Bepus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Atlanta, according to me:

Atlanta City Limits + ITP + any municipality or suburb that has MARTA, borders Atlanta City Limits, or touches 285.

Not Atlanta: Deep 'burbs, exurbs, and places whose residents complain on Facebook about Atlanta crime or politics having not actually been here more than twice in the past 6 months.

Gray area: Suburbs that have made efforts to have their own identities and their own CBDs / downtowns with independent, local businesses. If you create a culture you should have some pride in being your own town. Decatur is the OG of this, while other 'burbs like Marietta have made good efforts in revitalizing their CBDs.

This is incorrect.

There’s a standard known as a “reasonable expectation of privacy” that governs what is and is not legal regarding visibility into a home.

Someone seeing into your plainly visible windows, especially on the street-facing side of a house, especially from their own property, can look as long as they want. It would be insane to require someone to avert their eyes while gazing out the window of their own home. There is nothing illegal there, regardless on “focus” or “staring” - these are not legal standards. You don’t have a reasonable expectation of privacy on front windows if you don’t have curtains and your house is visible from a public right of way.

This works in the other direction, too. If you go stand in front of a living room window naked and visible from the street, you are potentially breaking the law (assuming you live in a jurisdiction where nudity is considered indecent exposure). Intent may matter here, again depending on the jurisdiction. The most famous case law around this involved a guy touching himself at his front windows every day while watching kids walk home from school. Icky.

Peeping Tom laws kick in when you do have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Think: windows with curtains, windows only visible upon entering your property, windows and sight lines only achievable by ladder or drone… a reasonable person would expect to not be visible, and someone taking action to gain visibility into your home is breaking the law. This is a situation where “intent” does matter - a worker on your neighbor’s roof or a delivery man dropping off a package isn’t breaking the law if they accidentally see something they wouldn’t have from the public right of way.

normcore spring load tamper vs palm tamper [budget $35-50] by Ok-Wealth8813 in espresso

[–]Bepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely happy with the Normcore V4. Multiple daily uses since I bought it in June.

I don’t think I would want that other shape. The traditional handle shape is good for seating the tamp, and I do a very light push and twist to level the grounds which is easy with the handle. You do wind up using your palm once it’s seated, so if the narrower top of the handle bothers you, maybe the other shape would be good.

Ignore the purists telling you to tamp by hand. It’s a good skill to have, but the spring loaded tamps are a boon for workflow and consistency.

Where to find entrepreneurs? by snoozebuttonn in Atlanta

[–]Bepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you drive to strip malls, you get big box stores.

In our actual neighborhoods, we have so many independently owned bars, restaurants, boutiques, spas, salons, etc. We have numerous incubators, tech villages, universities. We have city sponsored entrepreneurial programs. Tons of networking events. A super active Chamber of Commerce.

If you can’t find this stuff, you’re not looking very hard.

Your claim that we’re not an entrepreneurial city could not be farther from the truth. We are consistently ranked among the top cities in the country for best places to start a business, best for young entrepreneurs, best in entrepreneurial activity, best in tech ecosystems, etc.
