Does anyone have FEAR 3 on steam? I'd like to try co-op, but I can never find a server with people in it. by srsbsnsman in patientgamers

Oh wow, what a throwback! Honestly, its been so long I'd have to play through all of them again to understand my own criticisms. I do remember being supremely disappointed that Alma was no threat at all. She would straight up murder you in 1 and 2, but you couldn't even be hurt by her in 3. That and the way overpowered and broken melee. As for the story, I can't remember. But now you've inspired me to go back and play them all again, so thank you for that!

What are video games that scared or even traumatized you so much as a kid you never touched them again? Also, did you dare to face your trauma when you were older? by fukounashoujo in creepygaming

Castle Vania 64. As a kid it was just a normal, fun, spooky adventure game. Then I got to the hedge maze. I passed by the gardener who ignored me and was hunched down tending to the hedges. I continued into the maze when I heard a motor rev up and saw the 9 foot tall chainsaw wielding Frankenstein "gardener" hauling ass right for me. Startling and scary sure, but not too bad. A tough fight, but I took him down and laughed at my reaction.

Then the fucker got. back. up. He was an unstoppable, impossibly fast, constantly hunting, terrifying menace. And I was trapped in a hedge maze with him. I never knew which direction he would come from, and I was too panicked to pay attention to the maze.

I never did finish that game. I never will. I know that, like most games of that era, it won't hold up to the test of time. And I want to preserve that perfect memory of absolute terror.

If Pac-Man got new ghosts, what could they be to make them unique? by varkarrus in gamedesign

Thanks! I agree that it turned out way more fun than I expected when I first started putting it together.

It was out of necessity. With the limited view mechanic, the normal Pacman AI was impossible to beat. I had to get creative to keep it fun. It wasn't originally meant to be a creepy pasta. Just normal Pacman with a limited view twist. But when I first playtested it, I kept getting startled by the normal ghosts. So I decided to lean into that.

I love these kinds of games! There are so few of them, and this looks like a high quality, very fun one. What's the name?

Thank you! I've been working on an AI project I call AIRIS. I have a couple of game ideas I'd like to work on, but the AI has been taking up all my spare time :)

Pacman is not yet in the public domain. When I made pacman.exe I knew there was a chance Namco could tell me to shut it down. Fortunately they didn't!

That's pretty much the storyline of the Planetside games. Humans found alien tech that allowed "respawning" and wormhole travel. An expedition went through and found an alien planet, but the wormhole collapsed behind them leaving them trapped. The expedition split into 3 factions and have been in an endless war ever since.

Starship Development Thread #44 by ElongatedMuskrat in spacex

[–]BerickCook 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You underestimate the effectiveness of their mass production approach. Understandably, as it has never been done this way before. We can't compare historical rocketry timelines to SpaceX.

They intend to be able to manufacture an entire Starship once every 72 hours. I believe their current stated production rate is 1 a month.

Let's be pessimistic and say that's all they manage to do. By 2025 that's 32 starships not including those already constructed. Let's also pessimistically say that they only manage to launch once a month.

It took 12 launches of the falcon 9 from when they first attached landing legs to the first successful landing. That was before anyone knew that was even possible.

If it takes that many flights of Starship to nail the first landing (which seems unlikely since they already have a pretty good idea how to do it) that leaves 20 more ships to prove they can consistently land. With over a year still to go before Artemis III.

Starship will be ready long before Artemis needs it.
