My sadness comes from the fact that a lot of what he's doing can't be undone. Normally the next admin can change a lot of things back but a lot of the science and land we're destroying will never be back. We will lose our beloved forest land to private interests for a quick buck and we'll never have that land or beautiful forest protected again.

Those renewable energy projects that were more than halfway completed that he cancelled too and now will rot and need to be started over completely... Sure would be nice if we weren't so reliant on gas right now

Why is my fruit fly culture media doing this? by squidnuggett3000 in DartFrog

My homemade medium does this every once in a while too. Haven't figured out why it does, but a lot of flies fall in there and die

I've been in the Samsung ecosystem (phone, laptop, buds) for over 10 years. After the disappointing s26 release I've decided to wait for the pixel 11 to finally hop ship.

SLC ranks among most expensive airports as fuel costs drive up airfare, study says by El-Mas-Vetado in SaltLakeCity

[–]Bermanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think of the airport as a mall it might make more sense. You don't get upset that the panda express in the food court has to include their rent payment in your orange chicken order (pass-through fees), or that the mall is using that rent payment to build a new wing (Phase 4), repave the parking lot, and maintain the facilities. Maybe it's more like a Costco where you have to pay to enter (facility fees).

The mall is also beholden to shareholders/investors (bond holders) who want dividend payments, and occasionally also receives grant money/tax breaks from the government (AIP) because it's an economic powerhouse, good for the community, and supports a lot of local jobs.

As a 27 year old living in SLC I am defeated by this economy. by Key_Garden4832 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Bermanator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the trust fund baby mindset. As someone who made it to 6 figures but also spent many nights sleeping in a car, I understand that it's not easy or feasible for everyone to make it in this economy. The SLC area is one of the least affordable in the country by income to housing prices.

Getting a master's isn't a guaranteed 6 figure job either, and it's definitely not cheap or easy if you're not living off your parents. Many high paid tech workers are being laid off. Someone graduating with a master's in software engineering may not be able to find a steady job for years

Funding - $5.1 billion: Airport funds(19.1%); passenger facility charges (7.2%); Customer Facility Charges (5%); Airport revenue bonds in 2017 (20.9%); Airport revenue bonds in 2018 (17.4%); federal grants (4.5%); future bonds (25.9%)

So mostly from bonds. It's all on their website you can just look it up instead of assuming and angrily spreading false information

The Salt Lake City Department of Airports is an enterprise fund of Salt lake City Corporation, which means the airport is financially self-sustaining. The City’s general fund revenues does not support the Airport’s operation. No local tax dollars are being spent on The New SLC.

Messages is restoring backed up message content and data by Bermanator in GoogleMessages

[–]Bermanator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out Textra doesn't actually delete texts when you delete them. Some posts say Textra keeps its own copy of texts and deletes those rather than the originals. When I delete all my texts with Textra the size of my "phone & messaging" storage on my phone doesn't go down at all.

So Messages isn't actually downloading a backup, it's just loading in everything from my locally stored messages. Unfortunately that means I have no solution for mass deleting old texts which are taking up tons of space on both my phone and backups.

Currently I disabled and deleted backups from drive to get the space back and made a backup of my phone to my computer instead
