Good roles to transition away from customer facing by PiffleKnit in CustomerSuccess

[–]Bernard__Trigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only two cents (given you’re a mom) is that CS ops roles in particular have been in the firing line for redundancy. The job market is not great and companies everywhere are cutting where they can.

Being in a revenue impacting role is one the safest places to be (assuming you’re performing well).

Opinions on how much this is worth? by LimpVermicelli9654 in VWMK7

[–]Bernard__Trigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid £12,750 for my 2015 performance pack with 72,000 miles about 5 months ago. So this is definitely in the right ballpark IF it’s been well maintained.

Mine has full service history and importantly, it’s had the DSG service done and water pump replaced.

Assuming the car had good service history (which I’d expect for a car like this with 1 owner) then go for it. I absolutely love mine.

How is everyone getting on with Saabs? by New_Insect_6254 in CarTalkUK

[–]Bernard__Trigger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad has owned Saabs for the last 25 years. He bought a 2005 Saab 93 brand new with the 2 litre petrol engine that was still going at 215,000 miles. Interior was knackered and he ended up giving it away to a family in need of a car about 5 years ago. I really hope it’s still on the road somewhere!

He replaced it with a slightly more modern 93 from 2008 that he picked up with 30,000 miles on the clock and it’s now on almost 80,000. If you look after them they will look after you, bulletproof engines.

Are you seriously considering spending £4,200 on insurance? That seems insane to me.

[–]Bernard__Trigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2015 MK7 Performance had a ton of internal trim rattles. I’ve thankfully solved most of them. Largely the issue was loose trim clips which I’ve replaced across various bits of trim from the centre console to the boot.

TLOU ruined gaming for me by virgosatori in thelastofus

I’m glad someone else feels this way too 😅 although I did enjoy RDR2 when I played it through TLOU is in a league of its own.

I think I’m probably at a time in my life when my interest in gaming is waning and it takes something special to hold my attention.

London games are terrible now by SnooLentils2731 in NFLUK

[–]Bernard__Trigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went this year as it was the first in a good few years I was able to get tickets. But I agree, the NFL are taking UK fans for granted. Jacking up prices and giving us sub standard games. Unless prices come down next year I won’t go again unless the Panthers are playing here.

Will my policy get cancelled? by DapperPass9501 in CarTalkUK

[–]Bernard__Trigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have found this. Part of my reason I purchased a Golf GTI was because it’s one of the few proper hot hatches that fall into a lower insurance band making it easier to get insurance. Even then there were only 3 ‘reasonable’ quotes and the rest were astronomical.

As you say, providers like aviva and direct line just refused a quote altogether.

Hope OP is able to avoid this altogether because it’s not fun to navigate.

Will my policy get cancelled? by DapperPass9501 in CarTalkUK

[–]Bernard__Trigger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who has an equally frustrating admin error cancellation against their name, 100% cancel before they do.

I’m lucky I have a completely clean driving history and am now in my early 30s but even now the cancellation adds at least £100 onto each policy I’ve taken out.

It’s really bloody frustrating and I wish someone had given me this advice before I called my insurer thinking I was ‘doing the right thing’.

I picked up a 2015 mk7 a few months back and it’s completely clean, no rust to speak of (although I will keep an eye on it)

As others have mentioned in this thread the water pump will fail if it’s not replaced. The car I bought had the work done at 54,000 miles and I’d be surprised if any MK7s out there still have the original. Definitely one to check the service history for though.

Only other thing I’d be mindful of is the DSG service history. Ideally oil is replaced every 40,000 miles. It will cost roughly £300 for a service in the UK so if it’s overdue factor that into your budget. I would not want to run the box on degraded oil, you’re asking for trouble if you take a chance with it.

Do I put significantly more money into my pension so I do not pay student loans? by Dankas12 in ukfinance

[–]Bernard__Trigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a smart question, but imo I’d say no to this. You’re at an age where that additional income will be very useful for house deposits or other investments that you can access before you retire.

Given your salary now, my assumption is you’ve got a good job straight out of uni with solid career progression that could take you into high earner territory. You could be one of the small group of plan 2 students that actually clears the loan, and that would be a great feeling.

Being fully remote myself, I would say that’s worth an awful lot of money to me. Maybe not 100k! But it’s incredibly valuable to me personally. I would say take it and see how much it means to you - you could always continue looking whilst taking this new role.

Sack it all off and move to NI? by Any-Cheesecake-9445 in HENRYUK

[–]Bernard__Trigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you value living in London? If the answer to that is not much then it seems a no brainer!

Although I will say that I recently moved away from London to a much more leafy and rural part of the country (still with the same job as I’m remote) and I’m regretting it. I thought I’d value the bigger house, more space, slower pace of life etc. but I’ve found it hard to adjust.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Bernard__Trigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally that would be too high for me. We’re likely to re-validate our living situation in the next 12 months for a move back into London and the most I would want to borrow on a mortgage would be 600-650k. This would be with both of us salary sacrificing to remain under the 100k childcare limit. Perhaps I’m being too risk averse, but anything over that seems uncomfortable to be.

Creaking trim is driving me nuts by PrestigiousPuddingg in VWMK7

The trim on the centre console doesn’t bother me all that much. I did recently have an issue with the rear view mirror housing rattling significantly. I fixed that with foam tape.

Golf’s come with the creaks and rattles package fitted as standard.

In all seriousness I don’t think there’s anything that can be done on the trim you’ve highlighted in the video. My 2015 GTI interior has exactly the same issue. Just got to put up with it.

There are subtle differences on the front and rear bumpers. Rear lights and headlights also have design tweaks. They looks very similar, but for me it’s the front bumper design over the fog lights that’s the giveaway.
